These are amazing! I'm so thrilled to see a new tutorial from you. You are such a wonderful teacher and contribute so much to the advancement of many knitters❤
Hi my name is Ashler, Im 26 and Ive been knitting for about 12 years now. Im currently finishing off a sweater i started a few years ago. Im using this method in the round, and im just enamored honestly! I really admire your skill! I wanted to let you know that this is the COOLEST bind off method ive found yet, and i love your video. Ill definitely try to remember to come back to your channel for other advice in the future!
Ashler, thank you so much for sharing your experience with me, I love hearing this! I hope you've subscribed and please consider joining my Facebook group; it is filled with supportive knitters at every level. ❤️
I'm so impressed! I was able to bind off the sleeves to the sweater I'm knitting on the first try. This is actually way easier than it looks. Thanks for this video. ❤
Once again you have helped me make my garment look so much better! All these years, I have just been binding off in Knit 2 Purl 2. This method makes such a difference! Your instructions are so clear, that I picked it up in no time at all! Thank you, thank you! Linda
thank you!!! the thought of having to rearrange my 2x2 into 1x1 across the whole body of my vest seemed like an impossible endeavor, so your second method looks like a dream! very clear and easy to follow video and instructions as well
I have to watch this on repeat to make sure I'm doing it correctly but the result is fabulous. I used to use Jenny's surprisingly stretchy bind off for toe up socks and it's nice but this is a whole 'nother level. Knitting is the coolest hobby ever. There are so many different techniques.
Thank you so much!. I watch your channel from Colombia and this is the best way of making bind off that I have seen. Excuse me my english, i just can read it and write it a little bit, so i am learning about knitting and english language with you, too. Regards.
Thank you sooo much. I am in my sixties and I've been knitting since I've been about 18 years old. Just love it! Now i knit for my grandkids. And you're not to old to learn new tricks thank you so much for your videos it inspire a lot of knitters out there 💖 I just love relaxing in the evenings and watching all these tutorials on TH-cam What a blessing you ladies are. I just completed a set of gloves with your tubular casting on and off they look stunning. I learn to knit with books but these tutorials are so helpful. Wow it's amazing. xoxo
Helena, thank you so much for the lovely feedback! Like you, I taught myself to knit with books when I was a young girl and it has certainly been a passion of mine ever since. ❤️
OMG your videos are wonderful. You ae a wonderful teacher. I have been knitting for over 20 years and never liked the flare at the end of ribbing. This is the answer. Thank you so much. I love the first method even though it takes a little more time.
I almost gave up on it. I'm not a native English speaker but your toutorial is the absolute best way to explain this quite complicated ( at first) methode. I wanna say thanks million for this absolutly great way to show how its done. Vielen herzlichen Dank❤!!!
Had my eye out for a video just like this. Perfect, thank you. The third one is a real discovery that I would never have thought if, in spite of being familiar with double stockinette. Excellent!
Excellent tutorial, thank you, Suzanne. And I'm with you, that Tubular is my favorite. I will use it on my current project, following your video through the process, on hem and cuffs. Thanks again.
Two of your tutorials in one day! Tried this on a scarf I had not woven ends in yet and it looks just as good as the 1x1 ribbing invisible bind off you show in another tutorial. So glad I tried these today!
Thank you so much for this. I needed a bind off for a doggie sweater I’m improvising and the tubular bind off for 2by2 rib was perfect. Your explanation was excellent. It seemed so confusing at first but once I got into it and saw why it’s sometimes called a Kitchener bind off, it made sense and I was sailing through. All I had to do was trust you and copy you in the beginning. My bind off looks great, btw. Thanks so much!
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I am knitting an older pattern and the neck bind off is the same as the third swatch. You simplified it to my level as the pattern just says bind off. New sub
Yes it sure is! I have really learned the value of swatching. Instead of starting a new project just to learn the technique and then end up with another unfinished object is not the way to go for me anymore. I’ve decided to keep the swatches and when I make something I can incorporate the technique!🤗🤗
Exactly. I keep all of my swatches. You never know, they can come in handy. You can use them later for practicing seaming, edge treatments, attached i-cord. etc.
Suzanne, with the second method, how do you set it up if you begin with 2 purls instead of 2 knit stitches? I can’t thank you enough for everything I’ve learned from your videos. You’re always my go-to, and my knitting sisters now look at me as a knitting master. 😂
@Javainthebox I don’t know if you figured this out eventually, but I had this issue myself recently. I did a P1, slipped the second purl off the needle and held it at the back of my work, worked the K1, then put the purl stitch back on the needle and worked P1, K1, P1. Every time I needed to swap a purl and knit stitch, I held the purl to the back of my work, worked the knit stitch, put the purl stitch back on my needle, and worked the purl stitch. It seemed to work quite well and I didn’t notice any difference in doing it this way compared to how it is shown in the video with 2 knit stitches at the start of the row.
I couldn't quite tell you why but the first invisible bind off, the kitchener on one needle, made the kitchener graft make SO much more sense to me. I could just see it better. But now I won't unsee it when I'm closing sock toes lol.
A timely video as I am knitting a sweater ... Heather ...by Melissa Schaschwary. She recommends the first method u demonstrated. Thank you for making it clear and now.....easy! I have missed ur videos...glad ur back. It was u settling during these crazy times to not be notified of a new video.
Thank you for sharing this. I always have a problem with the bind off.looks so much easier using a tapestry needle. I like the look of the tubular as well..😊Happy Holidays.🎄
Muchas gracias, entiendo poco inglés pero mirando entiendo y hoy precisamente buscaba un tutorial de esto y fue muy, muy útil, pude darle un buen terminada a mi prenda. Me encanta como lo enseña,, entendi perfectamente. Thank you so much.
Hi Suzanne! Great video! Than you! I wanted to check to see if there is a different setup and how to end for the 1st method if the work is in the round. ty!
@@SuzanneBryan Thank you! I looked at this one, but thought maybe they'd be different somehow since this was an invisible and the other was a tubular. Also I went down two needle sizes on these socks, but seemed way too tight lol. Could just be me, but I'll give it a shot with the same needle size instead of going down this time and see if that helps. Thank you!
This is so helpful, thank you! When you saw that you insert the needle into the "second purl" at 13:45, do you mean the first purl of the next set of purls?
This is very helpful Suzanne and as always beautifully explained and illustrated. Added to my library, it’ll be referenced for when I bind off next. 🙏 Warmest best wishes for a very Happy Holiday Season! 🤗
Thank you so much for all your wonderful videos. I have learned so much from you, you are my go to gal on knitting. No more holes under the arm, Yay! Any tips or tricks on collars or pockets? I would love to learn some from you. Thanks again and big hugs to you! Susan
thank you, this is the best tutorial I could find for 2x2 Italian bind off. It was pinned in someone’s Ravelry comments, which is how I found it. Is there an error at around 17:50? (Where you say “oops” because stitches slipped off your needle). I watched it many times because I was confused about how you worked the last two knit stitches in the 2x2 rib.
When you say ‘oops’ at 17:55, something odd happens - i think you drop off that first knit (after having picked it back up) and it wasn’t time for that yet. I’m following you (trying to finish sleeves) and all of a sudden, we don’t match! Maybe I’M wrong, but i’m doing it many times and something seems wrong.
Loved the tubular finish. It is very similar to cast on with additional thread . If you knit on circular needles do you do you 4 rows - 1- knitt all the knits, ( slip P) 2 row - p all the p, and slip all the k- then repeat row 1 and 2 ?/
Great tutorial, thank you. I am ready to cast off the welt of a top down cardigan. The pattern gives the Italian bind off which I would like to do. I have 290 stitches to cast off and I’m using 4ply/fingering on 3mm needles. I need about 3 metres of yarn to complete the cast off. The yarn becomes overworked with pulling through each stitch. Would it work ok if I use shorter lengths joining them in as I need along the cast off edge, or please could you suggest another solution. Thanks so much. Mary
On the last part of the bind off, in order to have a smooth join, I do it a little different. This video shows it. th-cam.com/video/SBrGhv1_RBU/w-d-xo.html
Your instruction is always very clear but I have a question about these bind offs. How do you finish them in the round? I always do toe up socks and want a very nice bind off for them! Thanks for showing these as clear as you did!
What a great question. Yes, you can make a smooth transition in the round for the bind off. For that last loop on your needle when all the stitches have been bound off, cut the yarn and pull the loop open (do not pull tail through the loop, but pull the loop out). Then thread the tail on a tapestry needle, find the first bound off loop on the beginning of the round and take your tapestry needle under it (like a duplicate stitch) then take the tapestry needle down through the opened loop, to close it, and then pull up until the bind off edge meets perfectly from beginning to the end. Then weave in the end.
Suzanne, I’m always amazed that you answer questions on older videos! I wish I knew half of what you know about knitting but for me, it’s a hobby I pick up and set down. But I always enjoy your videos and thank you so much for your answer. I’ll have to try it with your instructions in front of me as I can’t picture what you are saying but it’ll probably make sense as I do it! Thanks again!
I have a video that is about a bunch of basic skills for knitting in the round, it includes how to finish off the cast on and bind off tails. Here it is - th-cam.com/video/l8rlWN7z3aA/w-d-xo.html. I think there are time stamps and you can just go the parts you need to see.
Esa misma pregunta me estoy haciendo.. no poder terminar mi proyecto que comienza con 2 revés me tiene muy mal hace 2 días vengo mirando tutoriales todos comienzan con 2 puntos al derecho 😢😭😢
Thank you so much Suzanne for this tutorial. It’s very helpful and has very thoughtful tips. My problem is I’m working on my cashmere sweater that use double strands, one of them is very fine partner thread. I’m working on the body and rib and ready for bind off the ways you showed us. I left the yarn enough b4 cut off but it’s very difficult to work with. It get so tangled and hard to fix at each step. Do you have any way to solve this problem. I was thinking of cut a shorter tail and if not enough just tied them up. But it seems so crude. Please advise. I’m anxiously waiting for your help. Thank you
Thank you for these tutorials. Is there a way to print the instructions? I follow written instructions much easier than video -- I keep having to stop an rewind.
Somehow you are always there when I need you! Might you have some advice on how to manage to not snarl the verrrry long tail that I will need for a sweater hem instead of a relatively shorter sleeve rib? Would I be asking for trouble if I spit-splice part way through rather than fighting with the snarl?
@@SuzanneBryan I DID IT!! I am SO proud of my new skill! *and on black fingering yarn* Thanks again! Next up...sleeves! I’ll be going over to your demo on how to avoid holes when picking up stitches around armholes. So glad you are here! You make me a better knitter. 🧶
Hi Suzanne, I'm doing the tubular cast off on the top of a sock, should my second round beslip the knits and purl the purls? You teach so well, thanks in anticipation.
Thank you, Suzane! I have two edge stitches at either end of my scarf. I slip the first and knit the last TBL on each row. When working the first bind off variation, should I treat the first, slipped stitch as a purl and bind it off according to how purls are bound off in sequence? Or should I work it together with the first stitch, which is a knit stitch, and treat the pair as one knit stitch? Thank you! I love your videos and often refer to them - for many years ❤️
Loved the tutorial! I've watched others and never did the tube bind-off because it was so confusing. You made it crystal clear. When I measure 5 times the circumference of the neck on my sweater, I end up with a very long darning tail. Normally, I like to keep these tails short to avoid fraying. How do you handle this situation.
Do you start on the right side or wrong size? So, the first row where you adjust to one purl one knit is on the wrong side and the bind off o n the right side or vice versa? can’t figure from the video. It’s so beautiful.
These are amazing! I'm so thrilled to see a new tutorial from you. You are such a wonderful teacher and contribute so much to the advancement of many knitters❤

I have a video that is about a bunch of basic skills for knitting in the round, it includes how to finish off the cast on and bind off tails. Here it is - th-cam.com/video/l8rlWN7z3aA/w-d-xo.html. I think there are time stamps and you can just go the parts you need to see.
Hi Suzanne! I am wondering how one would do the set up stitches if the first stitch is a selvedge ? Ie - it doesn't start with 2 knit stitches
Esa misma pregunta me estoy haciendo.. no poder terminar mi proyecto que comienza con 2 revés me tiene muy mal hace 2 días vengo mirando tutoriales todos comienzan con 2 puntos al derecho 😢😭😢
I would to know how elastic these bind offs are compared to other popular stretchy bind offs
These are stretchy, but depending on the tension that you use, may vary. The best thing to do is to swatch and compare.
Would you be kind enough to do a tutorial on how to graft 2x2 ribbing? Thank you!
Yes, adding to my video todo list. Thank you. 🧶
Thanks Suzanne, you videos are so clear and easy to follow! What invisible bind off do you recommend for a 3x3 ribbing?
Can you copy and paste?
@@SuzanneBryan sorry for the delay - could not manage on my phone but I finally thought of trying on my laptop and it worked. Thank you
@@donnaakins9629 Great, thank you for letting me know.
Somehow you are always there when I need you! Might you have some advice on how to manage to not snarl the verrrry long tail that I will need for a sweater hem instead of a relatively shorter sleeve rib? Would I be asking for trouble if I spit-splice part way through rather than fighting with the snarl?
you can try spit splicing, or just start a new strand and then weave in the ends at the end. I have done both successfully.
@@SuzanneBryan So grateful to you, you are the best!
🧶
@@SuzanneBryan I DID IT!! I am SO proud of my new skill! *and on black fingering yarn* Thanks again! Next up...sleeves! I’ll be going over to your demo on how to avoid holes when picking up stitches around armholes. So glad you are here! You make me a better knitter. 🧶
This is exactly why I make videos. You made me smile. 🧶
Hi Suzanne, I'm doing the tubular cast off on the top of a sock, should my second round beslip the knits and purl the purls? You teach so well, thanks in anticipation.
Perfect, you got it! 🧶
For option a, if we are knitting flat, is the set up row the change from 2x2 to 1x1 done in the right or wrong side
I like to use shorter tails also. I spit splice new yarn on as I need it.
Do you start on the right side or wrong size? So, the first row where you adjust to one purl one knit is on the wrong side and the bind off o n the right side or vice versa? can’t figure from the video. It’s so beautiful.
It really does not matter. Make a little swatch and try it out.
