  • The tubular bind off is a neat way to finish 1x1, or k1 p1, ribbing. This sewn bind off is essentially the same as the Kitchener stitch and creates a stretchy edge with an invisible transition between the right and wrong side of your knitting.

One of the best pieces of advice I've ever heard for doing Kitchener/ tubular bind off is to memorize the phrase "knit, off, purl; purl, off, knit." That's helped me a TON!

I have watched several tubular cast off videos, both in the round and straight edge, and this one is the best. The challenge with this technique is it is easy to lose your place. Your explanation of how to be guided by the Knit vs Purl stitches in the 1x1 rib is a huge help. Also, your two step approach makes keeping track easier. I was binding off a heavy worsted and found that when bringing the yarn through from the back I had to bring the yarn through, then go through the second stitch knit wise. Many thanks for a great video.

Love how you combine knitting steps to minimize the number of time you have to pull that tail through. One thing that made it easier for me was to pull just my needle through on that last step to make the final knit stitch easier to pick up.

I’m a combination continental knitter, and so I remounted some of my stitches so I could practice it just like you showed and then attempted a few where I didn’t remount my purls. It was much easier to get that 2nd purl stitch. A time when combination stitching is actually an advantage. Glad I decided not to remount my entire hat before doing tubular bind off.
