@RuneKatashima makoto's gameplay is based around her grab and choke move "karakusa". in matches, you have to train your opponent to block so that you can land a karakusa into a BnB combo. the only thing with the karakusa, it's pretty difficult to land, so making a guess as to when to use it, is pretty self explanatory; you can use it as a reaction tool, or a gambling tool. makoto is a reaction-rushdown character. she is a double-edge sword though, as her defense options are limited.

@LeadTester if you think Makoto is cheap, I don't think you ever fought a Yun or a Chun Li in 3rd Strike. Yun will pretty much combo juggle you from anywhere in the screen with SA3 especially since it has a short bar. Chun Li will outprioritize every move that you have. Any sort of charging move like Makoto's dash punches or Urien's chariot tackle stop right in front of her. Makoto's not as cheap, but she's pretty much the 4th or 5th best in the game.
Even the almighty pink pizza monster isn't exempt from Makoto's wheel of options, it seems. Also, how on earth does J manage to dash behind Kokujin at the end of the fukiage, j. Roundhouse finisher at 0:44? Every time I've done it I always landed in front, even against Dudley... something subtle with the timing? Or maybe he's doing a kara fukiage?
@LeadTester Makato is one of the best characters in the game(Ken,Yun,Chun,Makato, Dudley and Urien) are the six top characters. She's difficulty to learn. You've proven yourself to be a trained scrub.

Makoto is a character who has really short walk speed, but her forward dash is SUPER quick along with her dash punches and such. the axe kick is also pretty high priority and probably has a bit of disjoint to it, and she even has a grounded special that overheads and causes hard knockdown, although it's pretty stubby. Her main thing is that she's got a command grab (Karakusa) that's risky, but you get full combo after it. She's the ultimate rushdown character, although she's got low HP to make up for the wanton damage she does. effectively, on Defense vs. Makoto, you have to guess if she's going to zip up to you and bully you with her buttons or if you're gonna get Karakusa'd and eat a combo. J demonstrates here just what happens when you get into your opponents head and immediatley dash up and grab them when they're ready to go on the defense, thinking you're not gonna go for Karakusa again.

She basically revolves around Karakusa. It's a quick command grab that leads to most of her damage, and many of her regular combos lead back to Karakusa opportunities. You'll want to jump to avoid the grab (or use a non-grounded move if you have the option). She can use other options to convince you not to do this, so she can land some more Karakusa. She wants to grab you. You can avoid it. She can stop you. You can block instead. She wants to grab you... Thus: guesswork / mindgames.

@poeticthief according to japanese tier list, Makoto is 3rd best in the game. they have her on the same tier as chun and yun
