When i was having trip to Netherlands with my parents, brother and sister we were in Germany first to visit the leica factory. My dad uses Leica so he wanted to see it. and we were able to see those people work in there live.
Adam Eronen Piper I was literally just about to mention that. I want to make the jump to digital Leica but I've never been sure about life expectancy or how reliable they are. Had my Leica m4/5 for around 15 years now. :)

Like many Leica shooters, I have shot with other systems and still own Nikon, Sony, Olympus, and Fujifilm gear. But my M10 is hands down the best camera I have ever owned in terms of build quality and joy of use. It certainly isn't for everyone, and the haters here most likely have never shot with one and just aren't the target audience. Sure there are some rich dentists who probably buy one but can't use it, but most Leica shooters have decades of experience and enjoy the pure experience of shooting with a rangefinder.
This clean room assembly clip is normal manufacturing process given the conditions required for image sensors prep, installation and calibration and the handing of electrostatic sensitive ICs. What is encouraging to see is that good old fashioned hand assembled artisan work is still a very important step in what they do.
In a world of automation, volume and ruthless manufacturing Leica remains the benchmark for quality and dedication. People will always pay for quality and precision workmanship. It’s a real shame the cost prohibits a wider audience. However, it provides aspiration for those who are prepared to sacrifice for the brand. Many detractors exist and their views are completely valid but nothing compares to Leica, nothing.
Absolutely stunning factory process, but I can´t forget the most of prior work was done In Leica factory in Portugal. They are two great factory´s ! Congrats Leica, well done.
If you stop the image in the part where they take hand notes, you can see written in Portuguese "Ajuste" "Reajustada". It seems that now they write in Portuguese in Wetzlar... 3:03 mark

I'll never forget the first time I picked up an M camera...an M10. The heft and the solid build quality is just something I don't think anyone ever forgets when they pick an M camera up for the first time. Now I can understand why so many front line photographers in war zones, disaster areas, protests for change, etc all carried Leica cameras. They're built to last.
it's like the above Leica video above or 2001 space odyssey on a student budget, last scene with Bike chase shows Lucas' potential. I would instead watch Seven Samurai or Hidden Fortress that inspired Lucas.
I've owned a mint condition Leica IIIf in the past. No other camera will ever feel as premium as that almost 60 year old camera ever again. My favorite offerings from Leica are not the M bodies but the Classic OG Barnack bodies as envisioned and conceived by Oskar Barnack. They were small, compact and super dense. My only real life qualm being their optical limitations in the rangefinder apparatus and the parallax. I'd love if Leica ever rebooted the Leica III. They are a real piece of history and would make great items for heirloom. Those cameras served in WWII (Red curtain) ones. Erwin Rommel can be seen in photographs using one. Just holding and operating a Leica III will restore your faith in meticulous craftsmanship. There's no offence in paying an absurd amount that Leica claims for their M film bodies. They're the closest you can get to owning a perfect mechanical jewel.
Great piece. From a filmmaking standpoint however, my only criticism is the final shot, the M10's should be coming towards the camera instead of walking away.
actually...in the beginning of the movie the lady is coming from the warehouse, with various sub components, and at the end of the movie she is taking the finished product for packaging and then storage in the same warehouse maybe. I work near a production plant and this explanation seems more logical to me
Leica cameras are handmade by well paid skilled craftspeople. If they were made by unskilled minimum wage employees they would cost less. No-one wants to work for slave-wages, but many want others to work for slave-wages.
@@jqueryrocks I mean the luxury factor is a part of it. But it is also a unique camera with lenses that have their own unique optical character. Find another current manufacture manual focus rangefinder camera with modern digital guts and modern, first party MF only lenses with usable DOF scales and everything. Or another mirrorless FF digital camera that has an OVF instead of an EVF as a primary framing device. A Leica M and it's lenses are a FF system that is actually small enough to be a take everywhere and offers a unique shooting experience as well as a craftsmanship and build you can't get anywhere else. Simply put they are FUN to use. That is worth a premium to some people.
Now i get why it is expensive. Slow german workers.😅 Wonder how much that adds to the price? Jokes aside i am proud of Leica for surviving and staying faithful to its principles for all these years. It reminds me to old europe that used to make and produce its own things.
I've got a friend who owns one - as well as the fuji X-H1 (3 of them), and the new X-100v. I had been hankering over a Leica, even though I can't really afford one. He told me not to bother - he said they are great to hold and look at and soak in the prestige of the name and it's heritage. However, he said when it comes to practically nailing the shot and getting a better photo - particularly in fast moving events - he said the Fujis wins hands down. He said he is going to sell the Leica - he's had his moment of glory but said its not worth it as an everyday camera, and is just gathering dust on his shelf. This made me feel much better!
I use this analogy: My canon 5Dmk4 is like a clydesdale - it's a workhorse, adaptable, heavy, works in almost every environment and delivers great images. My Leica M10 is like an arabian - exotic, tempramental, beautiful, with a peerless pedigree. Sometimes it doesn't deliver (and that means it's my fault). But when it does, the results are extraordinary.

I always wondered why Leica's are so expensive.
Now I get it.
Look at it..
They must spend a fortune on white paint.

well, it is on purpose, it is a sign that it is expensive and not everyone can reach it so easy. :D

Who wants a camera that’s been glued together before people????
can I buy one without the logo ? does that make is cheaper ?
hahaha just safer on the street- what i'm beig told.
That M10 went from a $1000 camera to a $7000 camera right after that sticker was put on. 😂
People buy it, because it's expensive, if Leica sell it at regular price, Leica could be bankrupt in minutes.
