- Douglas So holds one of Hong Kong’s largest collections of Leica cameras he has amassed over 20 years ‒ he estimated that there are about 200 cameras on display in a museum he created and innumerable more safely kept away in storage.

You can see in his eyes the love he has for his collection!
This guy dresses meticulously, his hair is cut perfectly, the museum is very well kept and looks like a pristine, fresh from the box building. I hope I can visit HK again and see this for myself.
Why didn't he fix his teeth though? Seems odd in context of everything else.

Amazing collection. My M2 is very special to me. Even if it breaks, ill repair it and if I can't repair it I know I'll always keep it because of the memories I've made with it.

I worked briefly at the F11 Foto Museum a while back. Mr So also had an incredible collection of original vintage prints of many of the most famous photographs of the 20th century. Truly an incredible collection.
I saw that they've been temporarily closed since 2020... Would you happen to know when they may reopen?
@@jimbolic0809 Sadly no. The manager at the time told me that Mr So decided to close it temporarily to renovate the building, that's why I stopped working there. But he seemed never to get around doing it because he has so many other things going on.

I am a photographer and Leica owner who has visited Hong Kong more than ten times since 1998, and, sadly, have never heard about this museum. I will definitely visit the poace next time I go there.

Soy fotógrafo desde hace muchos años.
Independientemente del coleccionismo, tengo 2 Barnacks y una M3.
Sin embargo y después de tener las principales cámaras de carrete japonesas. Considero que las mejore fotos que he logrado a través de los años, son con las *Extraordinarias cámaras Olimpus om2 y su fina óptica Zuiko.
Increíble que en Japón exista un culto muy grande por las Leicas Alemanas, teniendo cámaras fantásticas.
Claro yo no hablo del coleccionismo, si no del gran oficio de crear imágenes

I have always had a hidden resentment for collectors who silently buy up things for their own narcissistic reasons, but I am absolutely OK with this man using his means to preserve and actually share what is a completely limited and historical resource. Hopefully his heirs continue the tradition. I will say though, I'd love to shoot some of those lenses. I don't really care about the bodies. My beater M3 will take the same photograph, and maybe even better because it is used and serviced well.

Don Chatterton was THE collector of Leica back in the 1970's. d.2015 He sold many cameras to Japanese collectors.
Few people know this but I have it on good authority that Hong Kong is literally Leica's most important market, at least per capita and considering the size of the place. Amazing though - most exotic car collections would be affordable compared to this guy's Leica collection. No seriously!😳
I am very much worried about the security system. The glass windows seem too thin. Here in Hong Kong a Leica camera shop was recently burglarised.
