Hang Gliding - Flying Over The Back

Finally after years of flying at Coronet Peak I plucked up the courage to fly cross country over the back. I’ve always had a psychological hurdle that I could just not jump over when flying over the back of coronet with the hang glider. The landings and retrievals for the first 30km between Queenstown’s coronet peak and Wanaka are limited and tough to say the least. Today was the day though, I followed the clouds and put trust in my skills and it paid off. Not a record flight for myself but certainly one of the biggest mile stones has now been passed.

Got to 9300 once above Coronet before they added that pesky airspace. Think I flew to Tarras.

Yeah it’s definitely possible. I like the insta360 camera though as it captures everything, not just where my head is pointing (which is not always in the right direction)

Look for a HG school, not a glider. Then your instructor will point what to buy

You need to contact a school and they will point you to the right wing. I rather would not buy gliders from unknown source. A glider must perfectly fit to your size, weight and skills,
