    You are so right in what you’re saying! Make sure you are involved in your taxes and bookwork. You can have somebody look over your work but do not give it over to them 100%. We had a tax accountant that was telling us they were filing taxes and showing us tax returns and everything. They had made up bogus tax returns and for three years they didn’t pay the IRS on our behalf. We were signing the IRS checks but they were cashing them and keeping the money. And we have two businesses that they were doing that to. Don’t ever let anybody have 100% control over your money and business. Because if you’re too lazy or say you aren’t good at it or whatever your explanation is it will come back to bite you in your ass. Good information, Angela! As always! Man do I wish that I discovered you years ago. I literally only discovered your channel a few weeks ago.

    This method is I think for people who have the time and patience but you can also make one business bank account separate from your personal account. I went to a different bank and opened another account, I use my checking for all my expenses and savings for all my income (checking is all money going out - savings is all money coming in.) I keep my personal money and what I pay myself (from the business savings account) in my personal bank account. This way all my expenses are in one area and broken down by purchase. I can also see how much money is coming in and how much I'm paying myself. This is like being your own QuickBooks (but free) but you have to be very hands on. And then I use Microsoft XL to keep track of everything myself. This is also something I have to sit down every night to take care of, but I want to be in complete control of my business. You have to learn what tax deductible and what's not, what's an expense and what's not, what your self employed income tax is, sales tax, etc.

    Hi. Thank you for all of the great information. Is there a video that explains if I pay taxes under my DBA(without a tax ID), can I still issue the customer a 1099 for their tax deductions? If so, what is the appropriate way to issue that?

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Nicole, I'm unsure if we've created a video for this, but yes, you can request a W9 form from an independent contractor even if you're a sole proprietor doing business as (DBA). When it comes time to pay your taxes instead of using an EIN, you will use your Social Security Number to report your income. I do recommend though if you will be using independent contractors and you are running a business, that you eventually apply for an EIN.

    How to I find out how much out you my rent could be deducted if I se a room as storage?

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Use a program like Turbo Tax to log in all your deductions. There is a standard deduction (a percentage) of your house. So you figure out how many square feet of space of your home you are using for your business and enter that and it spits you out a number.

    What to do if I didn’t safe any receipts?

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you have a bank account, you probably have itemized purchases on your statement that can help you re-construct your purchases for the year. Get in the habit of logging your purchases into a software program like TurboTax so you can take the proper deductions.

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Sunny, It's a really gray area because some states do and some states don't and the laws change all the time. I'd contact your account and find out the standard for your area for service based businesses. And if you are required to charge what is required tax rate is for your state. Here's an article that may help www.cpapracticeadvisor.com/sales-tax-compliance/article/12428980/6-types-of-services-subject-to-sales-tax

      You can go to a tax preparer like H&R Block or Jackson Hewitt and they can prepare your schedule C for you. I would let them know in advance that you have self employment income so they can match up the right tax pro with your return. I work as a tax professional and we encourage our clients who are starting a new business to come in so we can chat about keeping records of income and expenses and any other questions they may have.
