  • Over-delivering on your house cleaning is a touchy subject. There are pros and cons to over-delivering on the cleaning services promised.
Angela Brown, The House Cleaning Guru, gives us a look at the risks vs. rewards of over-delivering. Even if you're speed cleaning, the message you send your clients is, "I don't respect your tight budget, so I'll pay it forward.
If the client can't afford your maid service, you enable them when you give more house cleaning than paid for.

I am guilty of spending more time than the clients pay for and I think they have forgotten the original agreement because of that. I've learned the hard way and no longer make that mistake with new clients. This video is definitely on-point!

As house cleaners, we are absolutely people pleasers!! It is between you and the customer to communicate the few options available. Give your client the incentive to tidy up a little bit in order to receive a deeper cleaning :D

Very good video. I hope this person holds fast to the two hours because if not it will come back to bite her. If she does this the home owner will expect it all the time and the homeowners friends will expect it as well which will in the long run just create a lot of hostility. Unfortunately, I have been down this rode in the past and will never do it again. Love your videos they are so spot on and more importantly very relevant. I have learned to just do a little extra but not to much because than they expect it all the time and that's just not feasible.

i recently got a part time job cleaning a clinic 15-20 hours a week. The clients are horrible, and micro manage me every day. No matter how well i clean, its never enough. (yet i have years of experience and hundreds of happy clients) Your videos have brought me a lot of relief. thank you!

despite me mopping and vaccuming everything on a daily basis, they continue to claim i'm not doing it at all. its frustrating. I have even gone as far to film myself doing it, just to get my manager off my back.

I was baby sitting and would clean while the baby was napping. When the mother came home, she looked around and said, " Oh, everything is so clean!" Knowing I didn't have time to do things according to my higher standards, I blurted out, "Not really." Oops.

I do that sometimes 😏 I go over the allotment time, but my boss still pays me. I've been lucky not to go over that long, maybe 15 - 30 mins max.

I would not give that extra hour of time so that she can get the clients friends as customers. Because you know what she’s going to do the very first time she talks to her friends she’s going to tell them how much she pays and how long you stay.

@@AskAngelaBrown I need to add 1 thing thou he flat out doesn't want to pay my rate either. I feel he strong arms me & guilt trips me into doing it for less. He was the 1 who got me into the building. Normally my rate is $25/hr, but this is a Senior citizen complex & they're on a budget so I did a 1 time special @ $20/HR. However he ONLY wants to pay $15. I told him NO. I'm afraid if I don't he will talk to other seniors & I won't have the other apartments to clean. I'm stuck on this. His apartment is the most dirty disgusting 1 out of the 4 I clean there. No way is $15 ok

I instill this with my employees all the time. Although I as their employer appreciate their loyalty and standards, their time is my money to eventually end up in their pay. (Confession, I'm guilty of it too, for my long time dedicated clients.) But believe me when I say, they are well aware that it wont happen every time. 😉

Sooooo.... what does one do when they have been doing this for about 4 years now and continually reaches burnout, but has had the same repeat clients the whole time and continues to get more requests, but just cant go anymore?????

    • @AskAngelaBrown

You have to have other things in your life that create a diversion - something to look forward to when you are not cleaning. Something that ignites a spark of creativity or intellectual stimulation. Podcasts, audio books, classes, courses, a new language, crafts, sports. We learned this technique from athletes who cross train to avoid burnout in their specialty sport. Basketball players may hit the weight room, go running, swimming, play baseball, soccer or tennis. Something to keep active, use their muscles but different parts of their brain. Does that make sense?
And plan regular vacations. I took 6 vacations last year because we had a high impact year with LOTS going on. It was a great way to step away from it all for a second and then come back with renewed enthusiasm.
