Entitlement - House Cleaning Customers Acting Entitled

  • Entitlement is a problem with house cleaning customers. You go to bid a job, and they're like, "clean my space, I'm a VIP, and I need special treatment." They reek of entitlement with expectations of speed cleaning and think they deserve a discount.
    The entitlement starts with the promise of rewards and a license to be rude. They expect you to stay longer than the job requires because they deserve it all.
    They want special rights, and expect favors, and the rules don't apply to them.
    Angela Brown, in today's, Ask a House Cleaner, talks about freedom from entitled and demanding customers.

    Great advice as always Angela, thank you! I feel, as housecleaner, we teach our clients, either consciously or unconsciously how to treat us. If you are organized, look polished, stand up straight, act confident, and feel your their equal (because you are!) Your much less likely to get pushed around.

    I am stunned people act like this. I bet they treat anyone they perceive as service disrespectfully? These are the same people late to meetings, cancel hair appointments and no-show to dental cleanings. They are users. "That's Not Possible."

    The client that I just dropped felt that she was more important than the other clients I clean for due to the fact that I had been cleaning her home since 2012-13. Every time I turned around. She was leaving me hanging and I didn't know if she was gonna have me come back. Since COVID every summer, she would tell me that they had company coming and that they were supposed to help her clean. So she would not need me for like, 3 to 4 months. When she tried to pull that stunt this summer that's when I just told her I couldn't do it anymore.

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      You did the right thing. You can't hold a customer's slot open for 3 to 4 months when you could re-sell the time to someone else. I am sorry that happened to you. 🤗

    I work in a team with my sister and the worst thing is when I talk to a customer, and write the list of things to do etc, and then give them the price for that time,, but when we get there, there's suddenly a two page list of things to do. They add extras after the time and quote was given, That is so frustrating as they act like we are just there for them and have no other clients to clean for. How on earth do we deal with such people like this. They expect so much more for the time we have allotted them

    • @simplyminimalist6302

    Thank You so much Angela!❤️
    This is excellent advice for not only people providing a service, but for any relationship in someone’s life. We live in a very narcissistic society where these kinds of people permeate all aspects of our lives and these behaviors have become extremely toxic. No one should be disrespected or treated less than in any area of ones life and you are absolutely correct when you say that if one continues to enable these toxic behaviors than they also have to take accountability for allowing these entitled people to continue to ignore your boundaries and disrespect you. This was such a great video and such an important message for anyone and everyone to apply in their everyday lives in all of their relationships.😍👍🏻

    As a homeowner who has never had a housecleaner, this behavior shocks me!! I imagine the power dynamic would feel the opposite to me. since the last person who cleaned for me (30yrs ago) was my mom who had authority, I imagine it would feel th same "authority" from a housecleaner. I am watching your channel to help me learn how housecleaners work and maybe someday I will feel comfortable hiring help.

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      This is a tough one. For the customers that have put their house cleaners on hold for a month or two, when they rehire the house cleaner enough time will have passed that a deep clean (which costs about twice as much as a maintenance clean) will have to be done and factored in the price. Also, there will be a new awareness of personal protective equipment - (that while some cleaners thought it was optional in the past, the homeowners will demand it now.) So all of those extra expenses will be passed along to the customer.

      i didn’t have a choice as my condominium complex didn’t allow ANY outside employees. i was happy to pay them and not expect make up time. (i do once every 4 weeks). they do a good job and i respect the hard work it takes to be in the cleaning business. i did ask to change days and i kinda felt bad about that, but their website says if i’m not happy, they are not happy. also, they say if i’m not satisfied, they will come back in 48 hours for free. i would NOT be able to do that. i respect people’s time. i would just put in the cleaner notes, to the owner that i’d like them to focus more n this or that.
