    I bought Protools right before they switched to subscription only. Before then I was Fl Studio entirely with some ableton and studio one. As much as I don’t like avid these days, Protools just does it right when it comes to audio. Even recording and mixing my own vocals, I can just get songs done faster. Thanks for the video! Very informative!!

    I try to use my mouse as little as possible. Instead of dragging the clip down, I Cmd + X, then ; to move down a track, then Cmd + V to paste it, then ‘ to move to first transient, then , to nudge back, then A to trim start, then ‘ to move back to the first transient, then D to fade in.
    It’s all extremely quick. I have the clip moved down to the track below, trimmed, and faded, all before the next punch in is done recording.
    Same goes for the playlists takes. I just quickly trim and fade them before playlisting them, so that if we end up using that take, I can just cut and paste it down to the track below because it’s already trimmed and faded.
    Also, use N when punching in. If they wanna redo the take, you don’t want the insertion to follow playback. That way the punch starts at the same time as the last take. If they wanna move onto the next punch in, you press N so that the insertion follows playback. Then the punch will start from where you paused. You have to hit N before pausing the playback. So when the artist queues that they wanna proceed to the next bar, you hit N then space.

    Great vid! Right around 7:45 you say that the music will never stop, but it is stopping and starting. When you say never, ever stop: do you mean that figuratively? It does "technically" stop, but only briefly, resetting quickly for the next punch, and for you to be able to move the previously recorded clip down to another track?

    By keeping the record track (essentially) always on input, while using the previous take as preroll, it seems you are manually doing what the UAD Apollo Console software does automatically. If you monitor through console, the track is always on and the output of pro tools (read: the last record pass) is in the mix/cue simultaneously.
    (Not saying this isn’t valid, but it was just interesting to me that your workflow mimics the UAD Console default behavior)

    • @DeeKeiMixes
      @DeeKeiMixes  ปีที่แล้ว

      Almost, except that this workflow is not just for monitoring, its for editing within PT.

    Thumbs up to you! Please correct me if IM wrong. You're saying .. in quick punch mode .. Pro Tools will record from the pre roll flag to the post roll flag? So its a good idea to set my pre roll to 2 bar for quick playback so the artist can hear the previous vocal take and the last vocal take .. and set my post roll to the end of my beat? Thank you.

      It stops very very briefly. He does come OUT of record, and then grabs that audio clip, while nearly simultaneously hitting record again to continue.

    Using a UAD apollo 8 interface, in pro tools, when I engage Input monitoring I get latency- UAD's console automatically monitors the singer live at all times anyway, so would it be necessary to leave it on using those "Console equipped" interfaces?

    Wow, bro I am not sure what the hell I just watched, you were moving so fast… you were dropping down the recorded clips into
    Playlist tracks or different voc tracks? This is confusing… I don’t think I am ready just yet to understand…I will watch the teezio 4 hour session you mention he did to get a heads up.

    • @ChaceBonanno
      @ChaceBonanno ปีที่แล้ว +3

      He was dropping them into vocal tracks that were routed into the same vocal bus as the armed recording track. They weren’t playlists. He was playlisting takes in the background on the recording track using Ctrl + \ + Enter. The recording track remained in waveform mode so you couldn’t see the playlisted takes. Instead, you can toggle through them by using Shift + Up/Down.

    if he let the beat play you would be able to see that he is indeed stopping. Cant tell if hes trying to mislead the viewer or if he is confused as to what "never let the music stop" means. Its stopping.

    • @DeeKeiMixes
      @DeeKeiMixes  ปีที่แล้ว

      It means to keep the playback moving as much as possible in order it to feel as if the music never stops. There should be very little to no pauses between takes.

      @@DeeKeiMixes yes, understood, But your explanation is making people think you are NOT ever stopping. The beat needs to be audible for people to realize this. Ive talked to 2 different people who swear you can edit without stopping because of this video. Just saying.
