    HAHA YES !!! The Sennheiser mke-400 makes my life easier because I lend it to schools for audiovisual service. The microphone turns on by itself when the camera is turned on. It's a stupid proof or at least it's one less thing to think about and stay focused on the content. Perfect for an audiovisual loan counter. We have a lot of them here.

    I don't have a go-chain. It really depends on the mood of the song. But here are the 2-3 options I usually go to. Mics: SM7B, WA87, Sontronics Orpheus. Pres: UA 610MKII, Great River, RND 511. No effects printed in daw, unless i'm using the 610. I will gently compress, but nothing heavy. Everything else is done in the box.

    I got a UA Apollo Twin QUAD to make it easier to monitor vocals when recording and it's easily the best move i've ever made. I usually go Advanced Audio cm87 > UA 610 > UA 1176 when recording, but I only monitor - not printing those. Then in the DAW my vocal chain is typically Melodyne> Waves API 550B> Waves 1176> UA LA2A> ProQ3 >Valhalla Delay/Room

    I know this is a huge ask - but it would be so amazing if you could do an elongated version/video of your first question. I'd love to learn more about settings of compressors etc for tracking into pro tools vs settings in the box.

    Best thing ive ever heard in my life was a Sonyc800g (2010 model)> 1073 > CL1B.
    I was the mix engineer who recieved the stem and it was so incredible to mix I had to ask the studio engineer what he used. Absolutely crazy good.

    I typically use a Neuman TLM 103 into a Neve 1073LB to a Neve 551 for some slight EQ, and finally into a Neve 535 for just a little compression. I feel like this gives me a great starting point with awesome coloration before going into my DAW.

    Great video .... always cool to see what the pro's are using. Me ...... Warm Audio 1073 (no EQ model) - Audio-Scape 76F - Audio-Scape EQP-A (affordable chain and sounds fantastic) Can get that chain cheaper than a new CL1B! New mic of choice that doesn't break the bank for vocals I am using is the Universal Audio Bock 187. It's not cheap but it's very versatile.

  • @Brutuscomedy

    I'm not in a treated room so a condenser doesn't make the most sense for me. I used to have an SM7b years ago and plan to soon purchase a Dynacaster from sE Electronics. That will run through a tube Electro Harmonix 12ay7 mic pre and into an Apogee Rosetta AD converter. As far as plugins go, I subscribe to Plugin Alliance and like numerous of their offerings including the Lindell Channel X. The SSL channel strips are great, too, and so forth. I want to achieve a bit of analog compression and saturation from the pre before hitting the DAW so that's why I just bought a 12ax7 tube (to experiment with lowering the headroom and achieving more grit). Anyhow, a great mic is important for sure but so is an analog pre (rather than a cheap interface) and quality AD conversion.
    most overlooked? Toneworks ReelBus 4 yeee

    Can you please tell us when you are recommending a piece of gear and you got it for free or are getting paid to promote it? Need that perspective to make a purchasing decision. Example: the camera mic at the end. Just simply place a label on the screen saying if it’s a “paid sponsorship”. Thanks

    • @AndrewMasters
      @AndrewMasters  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      For sure, I do in every video that's sponsored. If that's unclear, here's what to look for: in this video it's the first thing on the screen before the video starts "sponsored by sweetwater" also in the top corner of the video is a message that youtube puts on that says "paid sponsor", and again in the ad spot at the end I say "thanks to sweetwater for sponsoring this video, hey check out this product."
      With that being said, no one suggests which products I show, nor what I say or how long I talk about it. I have ultimate creative control and the final say. Only I get to decide the products I recommend, sponsored or not. Sweetwater is the main sponsor I choose to work with because they let me promote products I actually use everyday and in a lot of cases they will provide the product for my to try first. I will never show or recommend something I don't personally use in my own studio work.
      The sponsors are a necessary part of running this business and allow me to create content I believe is valuable and fun to watch so I appreciate you and every person who clicks the affiliate links, drum sample packs etc. You guys are the best.

    • @thaexception3406
      @thaexception3406 ปีที่แล้ว

      You might want to look at the TLM107 which is more flexible and not too much more money. I'll be able to compare the two next week since I'll have both. I'm finding that I have to be about 15 inches back and turn the mic slightly left so it wont't distort the mic when recording vocals. I rap loud, but not rock and roll screaming or anything so I was surprised. The TLM107 has a pad so should keep the mic from distorting without having to turn the mic or back up more.
