Good build, I’ve watched plenty of videos and read articles about upgrades to hakbal yours is the best I’ve seen so far. Personally I got rid of some of the “fluff” of the deck such as merfolk mistbinder as it’s just a plain lord and doesn’t give extra value, metallic mimic as deeproot elite can do the same thing counts as a merfolk on cast for more synergy (ie merfolk sovereign) I threw in a murkfiend liege gives +1/+1 to green and blue creatures and untaps them on all untap steps combined with Kumena for plenty of value, as well as deeproot pilgrimage to grow the board. I added in more protection heroic intervention, tamiyo’s safekeeping and 4 counterspells, simic signet to give all permanents hexproof. I threw in the Ozolith the shattered spire, court of garenbrig and the O.G ozolith to keep all of the gained counters as well as added in more counters. I added more evasion and ramp levitation, Kodama of the west tree, three visits, kodama’s reach and burgeoning instead of exploration. Threw in more interaction with boomerang, return to nature, cyclonic rift, simic charm, as well as a few overrun effects overwhelming encounter, overwhelming stampede, and a craterhoof. I once had nicanzil grow to a +22 played overwhelming stampede and slaughtered the board. The deck is amazing I was a kumena guy before but the new merfolk king is Hakbal

Thanks man I appreciate it. I also had liege in the deck but I wasn’t sure how like great it would be since it isn’t a merfolk and the deck doesn’t care about untapping like Kumena does. I think a bunch of lords are fine but I can see how too many can get redundant. I also didn’t want to add any kind of like “land is an island now” cards just because I feel like they are just fluff and Hakbal makes guys so big it doesn’t matter if they lost their guys to avoid the big damage.

Such a fun commander! I built mine in some of the same ways but I also added spark double, sakashima, roaming throne, lowered the mana curve, added 3 counter spells, swapped a couple board wipes, added nykthos shrine to nyks and growing rites of itlamoc. I love the different ways this deck goes. My buddy is building his with some extra turn stuff added in and heavier control.

Clones are a really cool way to build the deck I didn’t think about it! Multiple copies on Hakbal is kinda super sick!

im wondering how you fit in all of that with the added interaction as im running a similar list except could only fit in 2 counterspells without removing too much from the spot removals
also im using the decklist from this video as a basis for fixing up my own hakbal deck as it feels the best for creating what hakbal really wants to do! my deck feels way better after shifting it closer to this and taking out cards like merfolk historian, tatvoya benthic druid, and such!

Dang man I just cut Mist Dancer last night and now, after hearing you explain it, it is going right back in

I think it’s good, but not perfect. It can for sure in the game but there are other alternatives that can be better. These stupid videos are just primers to build around so really go nuts with what you want!

@@poppmagic I wouldn’t call these videos stupid. I just started Magic with March of the machine and these videos help me so much and I truly appreciate channels especially like yours that actually explain why the card goes in and so it’s really really good and you do the magic community a good service by doing these
