I can't love this video enough. Super informative, and I love the extensive research you did on the Merfolk Tribal. The video, layout, and your voice tone all flow well to how your video is portrayed. You have great point-of-views, and I love how you take the time to explain the cards without the video jumping around and getting too cluttered. You have everything well organized and very easy to follow. Lastly, thank you for making mention of honorary cards that splash in the decks one wants to build and this tribal format. Keep up the amazing work!!! You planing on doing any more tribals?
I now this is an old video, but thank you for this! I just started playing magic and Explorers of the Deep precon was my first deck. I have since started to upgrade it. The Ozolith card is sick!
I believe you may have misread "Deeproot Pilgrimage". In the video, you said that you could use Kumena's third ability to tap 5 merfolk, make 5 tokens, then use those 5 tokens to make more counters. However, Deeproot Pilgrimage says "one or more" meaning that you'd only get 1 token when paying Kumena's "tap 5" ability. Also, you can only tap "nontoken" creatures with Deeproot Pilgrimage, so any tokens created with Deeproot Pilgrimage can't trigger Deeproot Pilgrimage again.
Yes, I had someone on the channel for a live streamed game and they wanted to play their Kumena deck. They played this card and when they explained it I immediately knew I get reviewed it wrong for the video. Thank you for pointing it out here too!
I first played Merfolk in Modern during 2017. I have recently converted the same deck to Legacy. With that, I had previously made a Merfolk Commander deck with Kumena at the helm. Though once Hakbal came out I sorted felt like I should switch, to keep up. Kumena gives a lot of combo potential. But the pieces are hard to tutor for. As great as this video is, it's a bit late in my life as I have just torn down the deck. I am keeping my Kumena Secret Lair.
I play kumena like a control deck with seedborn muse to draw a butt load of cards, thrasios in the 99 works as a backup commander too which is always nice
My first commander deck was kumena, but i was too fresh to the format. I'm looking at rebulding it, I always struggled to make it get over the finish line. After watching this video I feel more confident in making a decent strength Kumena deck. Kinda want to throw statsis in it...
It's Emperor Mihail the Second. I play Kumena as my commander because personally I think he's the strongest merfolk commander, even including Hakbal. Going wide with hexproof tokens and holding up the ability to draw cards or pump my board at instant speed is too good. Then making them unblockable because I've been pumping them? Super powerful. Pair this go wide strategy with things like Leyline of anticipation and control spells, and you're golden.
Mahail the 2nd. I will try and remember that. I always just say Mahail "ill" when I play him irl. And being able to activate Kumena's abilities at instant speed is a huge draw for me too! Hakbal being removed hinders your entire strategy.
Ugh, playing 5 colors is soooooo difficult (at least for me) because the deck starts to get pulled in so many different directions when you start to add more colors.
With regard to "Merfolk Commerce", while this counts as a Merfolk, it does not trigger Hakbal since Hakbal looks for a "merfolk CREATURE".
Merrow* commerce
Reading the card explains the card. You are correct!

Comments like this is why I do it and keep me going. Thank you so much. Yes more tribe or type specific play style videos are in the works.

Sadness. The wet elves will wait in the ocean until the tide rises high on your EDH career.
I run a merfolk deck with sygg as my commander and it's rare that I ever take a loss when I play him with him.
Thank you for reminding me about the secret lair!!!! Just pick Kumena up for that sweet sweet bling
Hakbal is absolutely nuts. That being said, my playgroup hates him more than someone elses slivers lol
Dmir merfolk is criminally underrated. Makes me want to make my own video about my Sygg River Cutthroat evasion/card draw aggro merfolk deck.

Yo fellow blue mage, who is also a huge merfolk fan. Great video.
Thank you for the info man good job !
"Inalla is a pretty balanced one".. damn not even 1 min into the video and already spitting hot takes lmao
Any good moxfield link to q full deck?
Derevi being the best bant merfolk commander is such a sore point for me.
I'd rather use morphon with a bant mana package
I'm speechless...I never thought of it like that and I don't like that I know this now.

I am an advocate for not putting + counters strategy in kumena decks.
Decklist??
I still think Hakbal is better. It does everything the other one does, but for free.
Dude is just reading an AI script... You are still human,,,, Think.
oloro omo ofo. I am human and I am not reading an AI script. I do keep bullet points so I don't get too off track.
Tcc propoganda
Trying to secure my tenure with the College.
I wanted to watch this video but the edm background music is absurdly high energy and distracts from your speech... I just couldn't do it.
That’s okay mate, come back when you’re feeling better ❤
I just enjoy EDM/Lofi style. Any other suggestions for background music?
@@Azoreign dude yeah anything chill. Lofi would be totally fine. Just something lower energy. I appreciate you taking feedback.
