- DIY European Deer Skull Mount | Wisconsin 8 Point Buck
I shot an 8 Pointer during the Wisconsin gun deer season and I was pleased because it had a lot of venison to feed our family. I didn’t know what to do with the rack since I knew it wasn’t big enough to do a shoulder mount.
I decided to try my own DIY project of burying the head in the ground and wait to see how the bugs clean up the flesh. Initially, I was very disappointed because I thought I had it in the ground too long since the jawbone fell off and it looked disguising. After I sprayed it off and boiled the head in dish soap and baking soda it looked much better. Now I’m happy with the results and glad I tried this method. Look for videos to come in the future with hydro dipping with a blend of a few colors.

Carefully wrap the base of the antlers with masking tape. Use tinfoil to cover the rest of the antlers. Spray paint white all sides of the skull with a satin finish. Been doing mine like this for years…. works perfectly with no future yellowing.
Thanks for the pro tip. I plan on doing that before I do the hydro dipping. That will be a future video on my channel.
In Alaska we call these mounts skull mounts!
And to clean them we put them in a crab trap and drop it for a few days where we know there’s an infestation of sea lice! In a few days it’s clean and white completely stripped of any organic material!
I have never heard of this method. Super cool. Thanks for sharing.
Perhaps a fire aunt nest would work!
This was a bit scary episode 😅
Sorry, I know. It looked pretty scary when I pulled it out of the dirt.
