    Thanks for posting this! I’ve had an 18-pt rack on skull cap mounted to a 2x4 for 15 years. Killed it when I was too broke to have a full mount and didn’t know about euro mounts so this fits my need to make it nice and presentable.

    I have used those a few times and they work fine for the money. They are a good alternative for the traditional euro mount IMO

    I think it is awesome. I have been putting off finishing the skull cap of the buck I shot last year and I am thinking this might be the quick and easy solution! I didn't even know this existed. THANKS!

    Looks Good. I did one of these also a couple years ago. Another option for antlers and a skull plate is to mount them on an iron buck skull. It doesn’t look like a real skull but is a pretty good look.

  • @edmartin1040
    @edmartin1040 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Your looks good! I’m not crazy about them but living in PA with 3 other states within an hour’s drive they have become a requirement for me because I do not like just the skull plate. I make a wash of 1 part flat white latex paint and 2 parts water and coat the skull to take the shine off of it. Then I spray it with clear flat acrylic, so you can easily clean/dust it later.

    For 17 bucks it beats all the work that goes into making the perfect euro mount. It looks great on the video! Thanks for sharing.

    I did one with the same kit and sanded the plastic with fine sand paper just to take the sheen off. I hope to have the need for another kit this fall.

    Looks good for the price although it does look way more realistic painted. Using Kilz paint and primer has given me the best results so far. Looks the same color as my real euro mounts.

      Thanks for the comment I was just wandering what I would paint I have 4 to do and I would have never thought about the Kilz and primer 2 from this year I’m getting done now 125$ and the man does a really nice job on them but the older ones I was on the fence so I’m going to give this kit a try thanks again!

  • @leafinitup1
    @leafinitup1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    To eliminate that gap issue you can just drill out the hole in the skull plate slightly larger than the screw. That way, the screw will grab the antler only and not the plastic plate.

  • @johnbowhunter7676
    @johnbowhunter7676 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yours looks much better than the one I did many years ago. The one I bought you had to use putty to close the gap around the antler bases. It is a larger skull replica and doesn’t look very good.

  • @ABAVP23
    @ABAVP23 ปีที่แล้ว

    Looks great! Very thorough video & I appreciate the effort in putting it all together for us. I’ve shared it with some buddies cause we hunt CWD zones PLUS you can’t transport anything back into Arkansas, without scraping brains out & all that. Now we can just cut out the skull caps for our euros & I’ll bring my shoulder mounts to a taxidermist with good reviews as close as I can get to the Arkansas border, lol.

  • @chriscannon6089

    A few of my buddies and I do a lot of out state hunts. And with all of the restrictions on dufferent state game laws now because of CWD. That's the easy way to transport ur buck.

    From four feet away it looks good. I had my sons first buck euro mounted and with in a year it fell and broke the nose piece. So I could see using those plastic ones for the smaller bucks

  • @jeremiahfrazier7611
    @jeremiahfrazier7611 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think it turned out awesome! Good job! After you bleach out a skull on traditional euro mount, the skulls look similar anyway.

  • @jayshedd2140
    @jayshedd2140 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think it looks great!
    I just finished my 20th Whitetail European mount for 2020 and a huge Bull Moose from Vermont! I boil the heads I do but I occasionally get someone that wants an old scull that has the hide on it "whitened up" and bleaching them is almost impossible. I'm definitely gonna try the mounting kit on the next one I have to "just clean up " as I'm told many times.

  • @portugal5698

    Only thing I actually enjoy is the painted/ hyro-dipped “skull-cap” rack portion that you just saw antlers off buck, sand bases to perfection and viola!! 10x better looking, less space, and way more realistic than the “plastic surgery of taxidermy!!” 😂

    Looks pretty legit dude. And like you said 30min max compared to all that goes into a real euro mount, def seems like a good option.
    I would def want those measurements to be as close as possible.... if too far off then I don’t think I’d go that route.

    Ordered one here just a few days ago. Was really hoping it wasn't going to look tacky. Now that I've seen this I have a little higher expectations. Definitely not the real thing but 20 to 40 ft away should look pretty real in hoping.

    Since most places charge between 90 to 120 for euro mount, for those of us on a budget it makes a lot of sense. But I would only use it for mounts that are going on high walls, looks too fake to place anywhere at eye level or lower.

  • @Zelleram55
    @Zelleram55 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The shine, no small detail bones in the nose and the teeth make it look fake, but a good option for staying legal.

  • @joshwalker8376

    looks cool bro as long as you took measurements of the deers spread before you removed the antlers and adjusted them fitting the right spread hey it would pass as a legit mount cause even people who do euro mounts are basically just displaying the measurements of the deer and the antler size and points on the rack i mean whats so appealing looking at a deers head with the eye balls missing and the nose and the fur basically as they are called a skull mount so if some ones just wanting to display their deer's potential in measurements and points and they don't screw up the measurements or knowingly make the spread look bigger then it really is which i would think would make it more look unrealistic then hey i say by all means people if they got the time and the tools to do so and make it look legit and don't make the antlers look all wonky and stay as close to if not on point to the measurement the deer was when the antlers were on it then i say hey go for it save thousands and months to years to get your trophy back and get them bragging points to friends and family specially a good idea for a kid or even an adults first buck

    Amazon sells state shaped bamboo cutting boards that I mount the universal mount to and then glue my IL. deer pin at the bottom and then mount the whole thing on the wall. really adds some interest to the mount. If you look at my avatar to get a tiny picture of what I am getting at.

    For 17 bucks it looks Great. But....Would the plastic mount take a camo dip, or can you get them already in camo ?? That would really be the ticket. The shine from the plastic makes it look fake (could be just the lighting).

    My first thought was it definitely looks like plastic. At first I thought, it definitely is clean but that plastic isn't for me. BUT!!!! then I started thinking, maybe a tiny bit of a plastic look is EXACTLY what is good about it. I have a non-hunter friends or even non-hunting spouses of my hunting friends that may think a real skull mount was "yecky". a fake mount like this is actually realistic enough for my hunting friends and yet I can tell the "yecky" people... it isn't a real head, it is a fake skull. Maybe this mount is actually the perfect compromise for everyone. !!!! nice!
