Before I watch I'm betting on 357sig
That 9BPLE is legendary in the field! A superb load with a proven track record. Blistering for a 9mm. I still carry it sometimes.
We. Series this on duty at my department for years and years. The 9BPLE has a long record of excellence.
So light, though. Surprised it doesn't have penetration issues despite its obvious legendary kinetic energy.
9BPLE had the best performance of any loading in the Strausburg tests, IIRC.
.357 sig for the win
357S is simply another level than 9x19
357Sig is the way
@@nicholasroberts9618 💪💯
Awesome comparison! I'm a 357 SIG enthusiast but that 9BPLE is very respectible.
@@SigmaSheepdog Thank you buddy!! I hear ya, definitely some spicy 🌶 stuff.
Interesting, because I was just wondering what a 9mm +p+ would do from a handgun at around 1300 fps
357 Sig all day, every day!
Thanks AZ for this presentation....
@@cousinvinnie2180 💪💯
@@cousinvinnie2180 .40 SW blows .357 Sig out of the water in every aspect, concept and spec. Keep triple paying for hot 9mm though!
@@Gunsandbunsmma Thanks for the insight......
Looks like I will have to be a bit more opened minded??
9 did really good for a 9. The 357 Sig definitely had a bit more impact and wound damage. Thank you for good demonstration & data.
357 Sig is currently THE best semi-auto concealed carry round there is-PERIOD! I'm a DA/SA guy. My daily carry is a Sig P224 in 357 Sig, but you can get a threaded 4 inch 40 to 357 conversion barrel for the M&P Shield to turn it into a micro-compact flame-throwing monster. I clocked a 65 gr Underwood Extreme Defender out of my 4 inch barrelled Glock 32 at 2225 fps- that is 722 fpe!
No
This 9mm load has been getting it done for 30 years
Ohh yeah! Excited for this one 😃
I have been carrying 9bple for 30 years, pretty much since it came out. I have never seen it underperform the advertised velocity, and often it exceeds it. I get a full 1600 ft per second from 9bple out of my 10-in 9mm pcc.
That exceeds the muzzle energy of the legendary police 125-grain .357 Magnum duty load from a service revolver.
@@Valorius at 1600 fps that bullet probably explodes to pixy dust...it normally fragments when pushed to 1300fps from a 4 inch barrel????
@@kevinrichardson8859 I have observed violent fragmentation and about 12" penentration vs medium sized game, after easily smashing through the shoulder bone.
Confused. Why would you even compare a 9mm carbine with a 10 inch barrel to a 4-5 inch service pistol in 357 Mag?
@@Valorius from what barrel length did you observe this terminal performance from?
@@TERMINAL-BALLISTICS because they have the same muzzle energy (9bple actually has a little more). You are not following along very well.
Two of my favorite types carry ammo. Great video!
@@bullaaron Thank you buddy!!
@@AzAirgunner. thank you. Keep up the good work!
I’m a sig lover but will admit I got a few boxes of bple Absolutely awesome 😎 dude
If you're going to pay for +p+ and put your firearm through that punishment why not just carry a 357 sig. It's still a better round no matter how you cut it...
That 9mm ripped it!!!! did absolutely awesome. I’m a .357 sig man and I think out of a g31 we need something bonded… Not the biggest Nosler fan. Good luck on finding that box of 9mm anywhere and if you you have some please LMK..😂😂 nice video and great job as always nice seeing back in the channel
Another great video I retired the Glock 17 for the Glock 31
That makes sense. Can’t argue with that.
Always cool to see classics like 9bple....penetrated a bit farther here then I expected from a 4.5"
Good test but we all know that anytime the 357 Sig doesn't poop all over any 9mm, there's something very wrong with the 357 Sig! I don't have a .357 but I like what I see of it and were I a lot younger and better off financially, I'd sure enough get one or two!
Cheers,
jc
Thanks for the continued testing
Please allow me to say this was an excellent video, from a fellow gun tuber brother.
Very nice coverage on these two rounds AZ.
@@charlestwyman9933 Thank you buddy, I appreciate that!!
As for gun and ammo testing channels, I enjoy your presentation the best!! No BS from you, thank you. I miss my P229 in 357 sig, now I have P320 in 40 and 357 SIG, miss my hammer fire P229.
Yes, sir!
Nice test those 4.5” barrels are really optimistic. Let’s call 357 SIG +P+++ it will always outperform 9mm. Can you repeat this test with 90gr XD it is a popular carry round.
I have never seen the 9 BPLE get this much velocity and never seen the Underwood 357 Sig round get so little. Getting a 5 shot average would be good.
Awesome content sir💯🤜🤛
I wish they sold that 9mm still. That was always a pretty warm load. Be nice to see a test on the stuff federal sells nowadays. It’s called Hi-Shok. There’s no tests on them. No tests on fiocchi defense dynamics in 9 or 40. Good prices on 50 rounds boxes but I’ve been hesitant
Both of those are spicy rounds. Probably need a stiffer recoil spring in the 9mm if you shoot a lot of those.
Great test! Everyone knew the 357 would do more damage but that 9mm was awesome too! Can you test that 9mm 138gn federal synthetic fragment ammo?
@@JimD410 Thank you buddy!! If I come across some, I will absolutely grab for a test.
Thank you once again for another great video @AZ Airgunner .... and for using ordinance gelatin. Clear Ballistics gel is great for comparing rounds to each other at various ambient temperatures, but it's absolute garbage when it comes to evaluating actual tissue damage.
you've actually gotten more velocity out of HST IIRC, some of your 357S tests hit 600+ fpe
When you going to test the new XTP bullet in Underwood's 357 Sig since they no longer offer the Nosler?
I don't think you've tried grizzly ammo you should start with 10 mm( if you could find)the 200 grain plus p is awesome the 180 + p is awesome and then go to different calibers you will like it it can contend with Underwood and buffalo bore. The 200 grain was most impressive.
Hello Az. Do you have a full size .45 that is sprung to handle .45 super? If so, could you do a comparison against a full size .357 sig? I have at least 1 350 lb+ pig on my property and would like to know which round would be more effective. Thank you.
.357 sig is the best👍
Seems like to me Underwood is slacking off more and more on their loadings.
I have some older 125 hr 357 Sig from Underwood Ammo that’s right at 1500’s, and the newer ones are barely 1450 at best.
@jimmurdock2620 that's because their load data was for Gold Dots. Now, they're using Nosler and XTP, which require different formula to get them to perform properly. Push them too hard, and they just fall apart.
why did they change the 124g from nosler to xtp looks watered down now eww
It could be due to the XTP shedding the jacket if the velocity is too high. I've had that happen pretty regularly with 9mm. The 10mm seems to hold together better but over expands, causing limited penetration.
Cheers,
jc
.40SW 155 grain XTP has more ft/lb and does way more damage than both
No it unequivocally does not. Let's see your proof.
Just based on Underwood's specs alone .... the 40 cal 155gr XTP = 582 ft-lbs @ 1300 fps.
Underwood's 357 Sig 124gr = 599 ft-lbs @ 1475 fps
Again, let's see your proof.
You are kidding yourself! 357sig >40sw all day
Maybe with is cross section diameter. Energy in favor of .357
That's possible. You can push a 155gr in 40sw pretty spicy, close to 10mm base lines. 600+ fpe is doable, but you're close to maxing out the case.
Sorry I knew .357 sig before I watched thanks for the verification.
