    I'm 64 years old and have fired a fair number of firearms but if I want to learn something technical I come to channels like this. I think it accurate to say that a 10 mm is to a 40 cal what a 22 wmr is to a 22lr, a 357 to a 38 special, or a 44 mag to a 44 special, etc

    I wish more people would watch tests like this or create their own instead of perpetuating misinformation and hearsay. a few hundred fps made a substantial increase in projectile fragmentation. Sometimes you want limitted pentration and a big energy dump and these bullets overexpanding is just fine for that purpose.

    I dont own any short barrel handguns, due to the fact that im 6 foot 6 and my hands are very, very large. They just never felt right to me. Ive always used and carried full sized handguns, but i really enjoy watching the short barrel videos..... And i love both .40 and 10mm. Those light for caliber loads work very well in the shorties. Thanks for the test and as always hope you have a wonderful day . Plus no tables got destroyed.....

    Great test, AZ! It's times like this when I rag on the 40 Short & Weak! That 10mm went off like a bomb in that gel with some very impressive danage to the block! You won't get results like this from every 10mm, only those that load it to it's full potential. Buffalo Bore, Underwood, Lehigh, and Double Tap to name a few who load 10mm the way it should be loaded! If you're buying 10mm ammo be sure to read all the info before you put your money on it! Too many manufacturers load a 40 S&W bullet into a 10mm then reduce the velocities to ridiculous levels because the bullet simply cannot withstand the 10mm velocities and blow up without doing their job! Even the Nosler & Sierra 135 gr bullets come close to failing but do manage to get the job done. I personally prefer the Lehigh Xtreme Defender ammo in all of my carry guns, but 165 Speer, HST and a few others tend to shine. Also, fragments of the bullets that remain in the wound track add nothing to the wounding action. Only those that travel outside of the main wound track add anything to the over all wound. Let's face it, if we are defending our lives or the lives of our loved ones, we want a bullet that works as well as possible when it comes to stopping a bad guy from doing his thing to us. That means doing as much damage as possible to him as quickly as possible. These bullets, while a bit shy in the total penetration department, do seem to get in there and do their jobs pretty well. And even tho I rag on the 40, it too did it's job pretty well. The bottom line is, you're going to be pretty well protected with either one if the flag goes up!
    Keep up the great tests, AZ, you're doing us all a favor by doing these tests, showing what works and what doesnt! Thank you for doing what you do so very well!
    Cheers,
    jc

    I've personally found Underwood's 10mm Auto 155 Gr XTP JHP to be more accurate than their 135 Gr Nosler JHP, out to 25 yards, fired from my 4.6" barreled pistol. And the XTP bullet seems to hold together better than the Nosler bullet, too.
    Good things! 👍

    Like both. Would be interesting to see how recoil affects getting back on target between the two. 10 is clearly dumping more energy. Some large 4 legged creatures won't be impressed with the energy from either one. Penetration and volume would be key. Can you reach vitals and how many times in the few second you may have. For 2 legged, make mine the nine. Certainly 40 and 10 get it done but efficiency and effectiveness on 2 legged nasties make me lean to 9 with both capacity and ease of getting back on target coupled with enough to get it done.

    The 40 Smith & Wesson was designed to duplicate the performance of the 10 mm with a shorter case and less recoil apparently it did an excellent job because this is the only thing I've watched where they stopped exactly the same place

    1450 was the velocity it was originally loaded at 40 Smith and Wesson with the 135 grain bullet then they dropped it to 1350 which is exactly the speed of the 357 sig

    • @almaadams3631
      @almaadams3631 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You mean the Underwood load? Yes, you are correct.
      Now we all have to suffer because to many mallet heads insist on firing this out of Glocks without full chamber support......KBoom!.....or at least a nasty case rupture. Underwood underloads it now.
      S&W M&P were made around the 40 Smith and Wesson cartridge ( duh,huh?), don't know why some guys are stuck on Glock. Fortunately; Glock gen. 5 have full chamber support, a heavier slide, a better recoil lug and block interface, and a longer recoil guide with a heavier spring. Still go for the M&P 2.0 ( with KKM 357sig barrel)

    I think it could be a blessing in disguise that Underwood had to stop using Gold Dot bullets. I consider the Underwood 135gr Nosler .40 and 125gr 357 Sig Nosler to be very much superior for SD to any big ammo company round. The Nosler 125gr 357 Sig round is all I load in my G33 carry now.

    40SW is a great round. I just wish more companies would make it in +P. Many people think it is because 40SW is a "high pressure" round, which is not true. 40SW has the same operating pressure as 9mm. 40SW is my third choice behind 357 Sig being my first choice then 10mm, followed by 45ACP. The problem with 10mm is the unnecessary thickness of the guns. I have five 9mm (P365, P365XL, P250, Ruger LC9, Springfield XDE) pistols and two others with kits to convert them to 9mm (Sig P226, Sig P250), but the only 9mm I typically carry is my original hammer-fired DAO Ruger LC9 when I'm not wearing a lot of clothes, because it is small and thin. My primary carry is Sig P224 in 357 Sig. I bought my P226 and P224 in 40SW and converted them to 357 Sig. I also had a P320 that I bought in 40 and converted to 357 Sig that I sold. 9mm is okay if you're wearing body armor against people not shooting back, but since I don't typically wear body armor I want the most powerful thing that I can comfortably carry concealed.
