Even “pro-Kremlin” elites will be concerned about how Putin is conducting the war in Ukraine after Ukraine’s drone strike on Moscow, says Michael Clarke, former director general at RUSI and professor of defence Studies at Kings College London.

I saw some depressing interviews on the BBC regarding Kursk where Russian civilians were asking “why is this happening to us? We just want to live in peace.” Apparently completely oblivious to the fact their country repeatedly invaded Ukraine and has completely demolished many Ukrainian cities. I wonder if it is even possible for Russian society to realise they are the aggressors here.
I remember one saying they left that place at the start of the war. The reporter thought when they invaded the rest of Ukraine. This person meant a few days ago. Apparently this person was oblivious there was a war in Ukraine.
They sound like MAGA idiots out here in the U.S.

The cost of firing an air defense rocket at a cheap drone is huge. If Russia uses up their defenses against cheap drones, that opens up the skies for F-16s, fewer air defense assets in the east of Ukraine.

Historically, the Russian soldiers have always been treated badly. Top down, way down.
The population have been conditioned for decades to accept massive losses. Think about the emphasis Russians have placed in the “Great Patriotic War”, brainwashing their population that WWII was won solely by Russians, not a combined effort of Allies AND the Soviet Union (that includes Ukraine). Nope, it’s all Russians, and massive losses and deaths to win a war is considered noble and just.

Unfortunately the elites/oligarchs of old who were in a position to challenge Putin, which this video seems to be referring to, have largely left the country, died in suspicious circumstances or been disempowered by Putin who has encircled himself with people who have a reason to be loyal to him and/or would be far too suspicious of each other to organise to rise up against him.
Anyone looking to the elites to remove Putin are likely to be disappointed sadly.
There are rumours, I don't know how true, that Putin is just one of a small group including the Yeltsins who've been pulling the strings of power in Russia for decades and if Putin was deposed they'd just replace him with someone like minded.
The " elites " need to be dealt with.
Dealing with elites in 1917 is what got Putin into power after their last solution fell apart. Russian stoicism can be stretched pretty far and it will probably take more than this to make it snap just yet, unfortunately.
The elites will follow Putin to the end, even if it means going down with him. Look at Nazis in Berlin 1945, that's their faith.

They could have made advances in science, engineering, technology, etc that would benefit humanity. They have so many natural resources. Think of the aid they could offer to those in need. As funny as that would be I don’t think Ukraine has enough troops and equipment to capture or hold large parts of Russia, any amount of Russian land held by Russia is very embarrassing for Putin though and great to see as long as it can be held without major Ukrainian losses.

I presume part of the drone attack on Moskou is also so that Putin feels compelled to keep quite a lot of air defense around Moskou. And that means he can't move those things to Ukraine, where they would really hamper the efforts of the Ukraine military operations

Nicely balanced and rational analysis. It's perhaps best to steer clear of the pundits overdoing the 'Putin's fall is imminent' stuff. It could happen. It could happen today. But it's highly unlikely. Clarke in saying could be two months, could be five years is reasonable.

Last year according to independent surveys 85% of Belgorod approved of the SMO. Then Ukraine shelled the city for 6 hours. Support dropped to 25%. I think that's indicative. Once the average Russian has bombs falling on his head 75% will turn on Putin.
It's like Kirk says to the two planets at war for centuries. They've made war easy and comfortable, it barely inconveniences them. But once they realise that war means horror and death they will do everything to end it.
I have been convinced for a long time that the way to defend Ukraine now with the stalemate is attacking Russia. I'm so happy they did it.

It's just I think we tend to get a little carried away when we look at a population suffering under a despotic leader and think that's it, he's done for, the people won't stand for it. Generally they do for way longer than seems reasonable. It's not the easiest thing in the world to depose a head of state, and most people will take more bitterness even than the Russian people are taking now and swallow it before you get to the point of a popular uprising.

I am from Moscow, for 2.5 years drones have often flown to our region but always got shot down, drones have flown to Moscow twice, once to the Kremlin, once to Moscow City. Today they were all shot down somewhere in the Podolsk area (southern direction). At the same time, this morning Putin opened a new hospital in the Moscow region (western direction), and in the afternoon he met with the Chinese Chairman of the State Council in the Kremlin. Although I do not like Putin, your desire to scare someone here causes nothing but laughter.
