Several things gave me confidence as a soldier: my leaders knew what they were doing, the food was good, my weapons and equipment worked, and if I got injured I would be in surgery faster than a civilian would be in city life. Russian soldiers can’t tick any of those boxes.

    • @trninfan

There is no recent military conflict the US has engaged in that had clear military (or political) goals. The difference is that you could be confident that your leaders were interested in keeping you alive

Your leaders? If you became a soldier - you are a follower. They never know. Food? Unhealthy with dangerous amounts of c-h and p. In real combat - when wounded - your forehead will be marked with a Y or N. Most soldiers are wounded liabilities and get an N on their forehead. That’s reality since the beginnings of war.

You spelt Ukraine incorrectly. The Russian military is better equipped and care for their personnel as well as, or better than what you experienced.
Early on in the conflict in 2022, Ukrainian soldiers were abandoned by their leaders leaving them without food, ammo and medical supplies. Injured soldiers were left for days in trenches. Many died waiting for treatment.
      Many others suffered from frostbite.

There is so much information available that contradicts with proof that Times Radio is only spreading misinformation to keep the brain washed willing to support the MIC with they hard earned tax money for as long as possible. But it only matters what will happen in the end, and that is Ukraine's unconditional surrender. It's only a matter of time. You will see. Even if you believe Times Radio now.

The U.S. figured out in Vietnam that using draftees, conscripts by a different name, in a conflict that does not have wide spread public support ends up being far more of a problem than a benefit. Which is why we moved to an all volunteer army in 1973.
Basically, to be an effective soldier you have to be more focused on fighting the enemy than in avoiding conflict as much as possible. And draftees who aren't there of their own volition don't make the best fighting force. So, it does not surprise me that Russian conscripts are surrendering when given the opportunity. Let's not forget the two million Russian Winter Uniforms, all of which were verified in Report after Report, but when somebody went to actually get some of them, they discovered that they had never existed and that the funds to procure and store them had been stolen.
It was somewhat difficult to explain all of the Reports which confirmed that the uniforms were in warehouses.
This was but a single example of corruption within the Russian military command.

Compare their situation into other areas, Get told to run a marathon while having previously have run 1km at the most. Get told to to drive a 50 tons truck when you dont have a drivers permit and so on. These conscripts by their own descriptions have seen often no and someones only days , at the most weeks of training. That means they have zero competence . This would erode anyones will to do a job they arent fit at all to do. Would they have fought they would have simply been slaughtered. Its like having a boxing fight vs a 10 year old. I can relate to every conscript laying down the weapons and giving up.

Interesting that he didn’t point out the dangers that the *voluntary* soldiers might pose down the road. In the United States, we saw what can happen to former soldiers who feel betrayed in some way *and* are then fed a ton of lies about a stolen election. A large number of the people who stormed the Capitol Building on January 6th had military experience-most in Iraq and Afghanistan. One of those wars was entirely unnecessary and started on false pretenses (Iraq), while the other was initially justified but continued for far longer than necessary for ultimately little gain (Afghanistan). We should have left the area as soon as we got Bin Laden-because that’s what we told the Afghans themselves: “help us find Bin Laden so that we can go home and you can take over here.” But we stayed for 10 years after we got Bin Laden-and for the first 8 years, we didn’t seem to be trying particularly hard to find him.
So many American veterans came home after multiple tours of duty and completely traumatized. Some pushed through it-others turned to drugs, and far too many took their own lives because we didn’t help them recover. Then the survivors were fed a pack of lies by snake-oil salesman and ultimately attacked their own country.
Putin is creating the same situation in Russia…and unless he dies first, it will probably come back to bite him.

We've read it over and over. After the promises are made by the higher echelons (patriotism, obedience), the thing that motivates soldiers under fire is their bond with their "brothers in arms". Conscripts have not had the time or the experiences to create a bond strong enough have a group identity with their fellow soldiers. Hence, surrender or retreat.
