I agree, I have an Xbox and do love it but to be fair, since getting my switch, I just find myself always going for the switch now. The games are just fun! And creative, is a nice change of pace! Has some great exclusives also 👌🏼

Just so you know, when you have a game that is being played, it takes away from the ability to serve the E shop because the processing power is being used towards the current game. If you quit the game that’s running Mortal Kombat then the E shop will run much faster without any lag.
i can run games and brows the Eshop with no practicable difference to browsing the Eshop without a game running so IDK what you are talking about and i have two full size switches and one lite switch in my home and have tested going to the Eshops with games running on all three and see no difference you do know that once you go to the home screen to go to the Eshop the game that was playing gets suspended and is no longer running on the CPU and is just sitting in the reserved space of the ram for suspended games right

I appreciate critical reviews, and the eShop performance is indeed frightening. On the other hand, it's kind of a weird thing to buy a Nintendo device while not liking Nintendo titles; I think it's well known that the main appeal of Nintendo devices are the original titles, and that these devices aren't nearly as universal as the other consoles, not to mention PC.
Yeah I bought it for Nintendo exclusives and 2d side strollers. I think the device is perfect for what it is and does. If I want to play bigger games I use my ps5. I just bought it recently and I don't regret it at all.

If you grew up on Nintendo/Wii/Game boy/DS/Hell even the N64. Then the switch is for you. If you grew up on PlayStation or Xbox I wouldn’t get it. I was a hard core Nintendo kid so I absolutely love my switch, my husband who grew up playing Xbox doesn’t really get my love for it. One of my favorite things to do is play super Mario 64 with the original 1996 graphics and it makes me incredibly happy because it was my childhood, my husband looks at the 26 year old graphics and asked how I can play it.
I think this is a review for spoiled rich kids who goes travelling but play games on their powerful device instead enjoying the scenic view on their trips. P.S. The switch lite is enough for your indies when travelling.

Not so big. And the oled is heavy and not cormftable in mobile mood. The lite is compact, better controls and last 7 hours. The oled is good for docked
The lite is just what nintendo intended to make, a completely portable console which weighs lightly on your hand , the weight difference and size difference makes a huge difference when you are playing long hours in handheld mode
Okay so let me point out some mistakes your making here. 1. You're comparing Steam Deck to Switch OLED. Steam Deck is bulkier because it needs to more run it and the shape is meant to make you feel like you are holding an elongated controller. Switch in general on the other hand is meant to be lightweight to be more portable in the first place (one of their biggest priorities), and doesn't need larger resources because games made on them are optimized for lower quality. Switch-Lite is just a Switch normal with non-detachable joycons. In performance it's not much different than a Switch or Switch-Lite (maybe a tiny bit better if at all), Switch OLED's main draw is that it has better screen clarity. That's all. 2. You complained the Switch was laggy while opening the Nintendo eShop. If you open the eShop while a game is running in the background it will lag. Always close your game before opening the eShop, or you will lag. It's not your internet, you just forgot to close the background app. 3. Featured games on the eShop are based on their biggest sales or most popular items. If the Disney game is on the front page, that means it was one of the most popular on the Switch, or most bought. Makes sense, as most people who use Nintendo are either children/teens, people who enjoy colorful animations, or play with their children. Who does Disney appeal to? Same kinds of people. Interestingly enough Dream Valley has become popular on most platforms honestly, so it's not surprising. You might even see it in the top trending of Steam if you check. Same goes for FIFA, if people didn't buy them, they wouldn't keep making them. It wouldn't be in the top charts. You may not care about what's in the charts, but obviously some people do if they're there. 4. Steam was designed to essentially be a mobile computer system to play steam games or browse the net. Switch was designed for just the games on its console, nothing extra. It's not unlike past Nintendo consoles. I think the only Nintendo Console that ever featured a browser was the Wii? and I think the Switch has an internal browser but you have to do some finnicking and glitching to make it pop up. 5. Why are you buying not one, but 2 Switches if you don't like Nintendo games. That's their draw. If you like the other indie games, just use your Steam Deck or PC, or get a Laptop. There are plenty of good indie games on Switch but as you just said, you can't seem to find anything on the Switch you like to play that you can't already get on Steam. You didn't like your Switch-Lite obviously, so why get OLED, which is the same thing with a bigger screen, if you didn't like it.
I have both the Oled switch and The Steam Deck and they aren’t comparable to each other. Although the are both handhelds that about were the similarities stop

This console has a lot of games... it depends on your liking. Specially for JRPGs you will be more happy. And of course Nintendo´s own games. But if you not like them... a PlayStation or Xbox would be a much better choice. Sell the Nintendo OLED Switch, buy a cheap Xbox Series S and i think it will fit you needs! I ll buy a Nintendo Switch because of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom (i liked Zelds Breath of the Wild too much). But not the OLED Switch. I rarely play in handheld and more on TV. So a normal LED switch is cheaper and i can also play all games...
The problem with the Steam Deck has always been availability. You can’t find one for less than $600 at the moment and I don’t expect that will change anytime soon. The Switch is primarily good for first party Nintendo and indies. For that use, there’s really no benefit to buying a Steam Deck unless you’re pirating games. I have no regrets, I bought my limited edition Switch for $200 and have over 150 games installed that I bought almost all around 75% off. You can also buy physical games for the Switch and trade with people online when you’re done playing them. There’s a whole community just for swapping physical games.
You are worng. There are many good ports to the switch. Skyrim and doom eternal have amazing ports, ac 3, ac black flag, gta definitive is still cool. Bioshock,need for speed games,. The switch has huge libary. The steam deck is strong but the battery last 2 hours
i have no idea why everything takes so long to load in your eshop. are you sure your internet is not sluggish? mine does not have those delays at all. only delay is when you are first loading into the eshop, but i'm sure all systems have to pass several security checks before you can get access.

More battery life, better kickstand(the lite doesn't even have one), docking capabilities, more storage, much bigger screen, much more vibrant OLED screen and detachable joycons for a 50 dollar difference to the normal switch? seems pretty worth it to me
i don't think your switch is at fault for being slow and laggy on the eshop, its your internet, i don't have the most amazing internet but my normal switch and my brother's switch have the same thing, eshop is laggy with inputs and slow loading when you open it
What an interesting take. Everything in your review/concept seems so, probably the wrong word to use, but entitled, or too top-down. Right from the beginning; I need it for my expense travels in asia, here's my Steam deck I already have and wasn't good enough already. Let me get a obviously weaker console that I don't like the IP's of, this all may solve my problems. Look how slow they menus are compared directly to a mini PC. Critical touchpoints to the side, It's like you did zero research or ignored common sense before making a purchase.
It sounds like you're expectations were out of line and you did no research before buying the switch OLED. I own a PS5 which I love but I want a handheld. I will eventually buy a steam deck OLED but live in Australia so to get one imported it is 2.5x the price of a current gen console. I went for the Switch Lite which I think is great but screens a bit small and with my bad eyesight reading the text is sometimes a nightmare. But I'll still keep it because it's small, light, well designed and can run some decent games. I then bought a second hand standard switch, sold it for more than I bought it for and just bought a second hand but basically brand new switch OLED for half the retail price. Excellent purchase, screen makes a world of difference. I don't expect too much from it. I don't love 1st party franchises but I'll still play odyssey, mario kart and BotW as well as the older remadters of ps1 and 2 games. And I'll leave the newer titles for my ps5 and future steam deck OLED.

BUT I don't regret buying it because I simply bought it it for Final Fantasy VII for the best portable physical release available plus GTA trilogy and basically playstation stuff. If Command and Conquer was available, resident evil 2 I'd be in my element. I love the switch OLED and happy to support nintendo if there releasing my favourite retro games properly. I have herd a rumor they didn’t add official web browser so they could avoid the switch being easily hacked like 3DS and Wii u and to avoid having inappropriate images saved to the switch photos
When I initially brought the switch in 2018 , I hated the games they where too basic and the best games where so expensive fast fwd to 2023 and the addition of Bluetooth audio and the library of games have improved I fell in love with it now. I haven’t experienced any lag with the e shop I think this guy needs to keep his opinions to himself the games he plays would b my idea of a nightmare. I think the switch is for historic games it’s basically a PS2 or PS4 in your hand ✋ if the switch released a pro I would defo get it
I got the steam deck first and was thoroughly let down by it, every triple A game runs terribly on it and even to achieve decent frame rate you have to go to a lower resolution and you will still feel the stutters. On top of that, the battery life is horrendous. I got the switch oled after returning the steam deck and have loved it every bit. The only negative has been the price of games and that’s pretty much it, with the steam deck I already owned the games but considering most were running terribly, I would take the smooth experience of the switch.
I didn't tried Steam Deck yet, althrought I think It's a beast for its purpose.. I was considering getting it but when it comes to handheld devices nowdays there are two things for me to check out.. before jumping to its performance. 1) being the screen quality, 2) the battery life. This is where the switch became the ultimate beast for me in comparison and I choosed it. :D
I got a steam deck to play old ps2 games on the go. And old GameCube titles. I wasn’t disappointed but the switch is still a great console both can be used in fantastic ways

I appreciate critical reviews, and the eShop performance is indeed frightening. On the other hand, it's kind of a weird thing to buy a Nintendo device while not liking Nintendo titles; I think it's well known that the main appeal of Nintendo devices are the original titles, and that these devices aren't nearly as universal as the other consoles, not to mention PC.
Yeah I bought it for Nintendo exclusives and 2d side strollers. I think the device is perfect for what it is and does. If I want to play bigger games I use my ps5. I just bought it recently and I don't regret it at all.

If you grew up on Nintendo/Wii/Game boy/DS/Hell even the N64. Then the switch is for you. If you grew up on PlayStation or Xbox I wouldn’t get it. I was a hard core Nintendo kid so I absolutely love my switch, my husband who grew up playing Xbox doesn’t really get my love for it. One of my favorite things to do is play super Mario 64 with the original 1996 graphics and it makes me incredibly happy because it was my childhood, my husband looks at the 26 year old graphics and asked how I can play it.

There is a huge difference in battery life between switch OLED and switch light. Wouldn’t be surprised if it lasts twice the time with some games
Not so big. And the oled is heavy and not cormftable in mobile mood. The lite is compact, better controls and last 7 hours. The oled is good for docked

The lite is just what nintendo intended to make, a completely portable console which weighs lightly on your hand , the weight difference and size difference makes a huge difference when you are playing long hours in handheld mode
Okay so let me point out some mistakes your making here.
1. You're comparing Steam Deck to Switch OLED. Steam Deck is bulkier because it needs to more run it and the shape is meant to make you feel like you are holding an elongated controller. Switch in general on the other hand is meant to be lightweight to be more portable in the first place (one of their biggest priorities), and doesn't need larger resources because games made on them are optimized for lower quality. Switch-Lite is just a Switch normal with non-detachable joycons. In performance it's not much different than a Switch or Switch-Lite (maybe a tiny bit better if at all), Switch OLED's main draw is that it has better screen clarity. That's all.
2. You complained the Switch was laggy while opening the Nintendo eShop. If you open the eShop while a game is running in the background it will lag. Always close your game before opening the eShop, or you will lag. It's not your internet, you just forgot to close the background app.
3. Featured games on the eShop are based on their biggest sales or most popular items. If the Disney game is on the front page, that means it was one of the most popular on the Switch, or most bought. Makes sense, as most people who use Nintendo are either children/teens, people who enjoy colorful animations, or play with their children. Who does Disney appeal to? Same kinds of people. Interestingly enough Dream Valley has become popular on most platforms honestly, so it's not surprising. You might even see it in the top trending of Steam if you check. Same goes for FIFA, if people didn't buy them, they wouldn't keep making them. It wouldn't be in the top charts. You may not care about what's in the charts, but obviously some people do if they're there.
4. Steam was designed to essentially be a mobile computer system to play steam games or browse the net. Switch was designed for just the games on its console, nothing extra. It's not unlike past Nintendo consoles. I think the only Nintendo Console that ever featured a browser was the Wii? and I think the Switch has an internal browser but you have to do some finnicking and glitching to make it pop up.
5. Why are you buying not one, but 2 Switches if you don't like Nintendo games. That's their draw. If you like the other indie games, just use your Steam Deck or PC, or get a Laptop. There are plenty of good indie games on Switch but as you just said, you can't seem to find anything on the Switch you like to play that you can't already get on Steam. You didn't like your Switch-Lite obviously, so why get OLED, which is the same thing with a bigger screen, if you didn't like it.

This console has a lot of games... it depends on your liking. Specially for JRPGs you will be more happy. And of course Nintendo´s own games. But if you not like them... a PlayStation or Xbox would be a much better choice. Sell the Nintendo OLED Switch, buy a cheap Xbox Series S and i think it will fit you needs! I ll buy a Nintendo Switch because of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom (i liked Zelds Breath of the Wild too much). But not the OLED Switch. I rarely play in handheld and more on TV. The problem with the Steam Deck has always been availability. You can’t find one for less than $600 at the moment and I don’t expect that will change anytime soon.
The Switch is primarily good for first party Nintendo and indies. For that use, there’s really no benefit to buying a Steam Deck unless you’re pirating games.
I have no regrets, I bought my limited edition Switch for $200 and have over 150 games installed that I bought almost all around 75% off. You can also buy physical games for the Switch and trade with people online when you’re done playing them. There’s a whole community just for swapping physical games.

You are worng. There are many good ports to the switch. Skyrim and doom eternal have amazing ports, ac 3, ac black flag, gta definitive is still cool. Bioshock,need for speed games,. The switch has huge libary. The steam deck is strong but the battery last 2 hours
i have no idea why everything takes so long to load in your eshop. are you sure your internet is not sluggish? mine does not have those delays at all. only delay is when you are first loading into the eshop, but i'm sure all systems have to pass several security checks before you can get access.

More battery life, better kickstand(the lite doesn't even have one), docking capabilities, more storage, much bigger screen, much more vibrant OLED screen and detachable joycons for a 50 dollar difference to the normal switch? seems pretty worth it to me

i don't think your switch is at fault for being slow and laggy on the eshop, its your internet, i don't have the most amazing internet but my normal switch and my brother's switch have the same thing, eshop is laggy with inputs and slow loading when you open it
The shop is laggy for everyone, it's the app or Nintendo's servers, not anyone's internet.
It's because mortal Kombat is using up bandwidth causing it to be very slow. Close the game and see how much faster it will be.

What an interesting take. Everything in your review/concept seems so, probably the wrong word to use, but entitled, or too top-down. Right from the beginning; I need it for my expense travels in asia, here's my Steam deck I already have and wasn't good enough already. Let me get a obviously weaker console that I don't like the IP's of, this all may solve my problems. Look how slow they menus are compared directly to a mini PC. Critical touchpoints to the side, It's like you did zero research or ignored common sense before making a purchase.
It sounds like you're expectations were out of line and you did no research before buying the switch OLED.
I own a PS5 which I love but I want a handheld. I will eventually buy a steam deck OLED but live in Australia so to get one imported it is 2.5x the price of a current gen console.
I went for the Switch Lite which I think is great but screens a bit small and with my bad eyesight reading the text is sometimes a nightmare. But I'll still keep it because it's small, light, well designed and can run some decent games.
I then bought a second hand standard switch, sold it for more than I bought it for and just bought a second hand but basically brand new switch OLED for half the retail price.
Excellent purchase, screen makes a world of difference. I don't expect too much from it. I don't love 1st party franchises but I'll still play odyssey, mario kart and BotW as well as the older remadters of ps1 and 2 games. And I'll leave the newer titles for my ps5 and future steam deck OLED.

I bought a switch OLED but don't like nintendo games. BUT I don't regret buying it because I simply bought it it for Final Fantasy VII for the best portable physical release available plus GTA trilogy and basically playstation stuff. If Command and Conquer was available, resident evil 2 I'd be in my element. I love the switch OLED and happy to support nintendo if there releasing my favourite retro games properly. Plus Crisis Core Reunion coming out. :) :) well done nintendo. 👍

I just did the same thing. I loaded up the eshop and it took about 4 seconds and my button inputs registered immediately.

Yes it is slow on media and Internet things cuz it on an old nvidia Tegra chip pushig to a decade now, but then again you buy it for the games cuz they don't run on other platform, unless you wanna run emus and pirate them.

yeah my guy the Eshop in general is laggy also if you have a switch lite and/or an normal switch then buying an OLED in general is pretty stupid also also you have a steam deck that runs with windows 10 so if you are smart enough you can download an switch emulator on your deck for free so you dont even have to buy a switch in the first place

When I initially brought the switch in 2018 , I hated the games they where too basic and the best games where so expensive fast fwd to 2023 and the addition of Bluetooth audio and the library of games have improved I fell in love with it now. I haven’t experienced any lag with the e shop I think this guy needs to keep his opinions to himself the games he plays would b my idea of a nightmare. I think the switch is for historic games it’s basically a PS2 or PS4 in your hand ✋ if the switch released a pro I would defo get it
I got the steam deck first and was thoroughly let down by it, every triple A game runs terribly on it and even to achieve decent frame rate you have to go to a lower resolution and you will still feel the stutters. On top of that, the battery life is horrendous. I got the switch oled after returning the steam deck and have loved it every bit. The only negative has been the price of games and that’s pretty much it, with the steam deck I already owned the games but considering most were running terribly, I would take the smooth experience of the switch.
I didn't tried Steam Deck yet, althrought I think It's a beast for its purpose.. I was considering getting it but when it comes to handheld devices nowdays there are two things for me to check out.. before jumping to its performance. 1) being the screen quality, 2) the battery life. This is where the switch became the ultimate beast for me in comparison and I choosed it. :D
I got a steam deck to play old ps2 games on the go. And old GameCube titles. I wasn’t disappointed but the switch is still a great console both can be used in fantastic ways
