He literally tried too hard to make these 2 a tie to create controversy

Let's take in consideration that Arun owns lots of devices and lots of them are capable of running Steam, while the Switch is on its own. I totally disagree with him about prices, the switch is too much pricey than ROG+Steam games
I think the point was to see which was better. The switch as a casual handheld or the ROG ally where you can play PC games on the go. The point is to compare the two concepts.
I don't think the rog and the switch are competitors in the same consumer category to justify this match-up. Nintendo isn't really targeting the hyper invested gamers like the ROG brand in its entirety does. If anything, the ROG is in direct competition with the steam deck.
@Emma Madison true, but this was when a Portable PC was First Released into the Mainstream Market. Before the Steamdeck, Nintendo was the Sole Competitor of the Portable Console Market. But the Steamdeck revolutionized Everything because it offered PC Games with the same Portability of the Switch. This why the Steamdeck was Compared to the Switch, basically put, "Hey, we have a product that has the same Portability of the Switch...BUT can play PC Games". Now with the Ally it basically Needs to be compared to the Steamdeck because the Steam deck set the Universal Standard of Portable PC Consoles.
This thing actually looks sick! I think you should have compared it to a Steam Deck, as it is targeted to rival that. Otherwise, great video as always! 😃
I can't believe he didn't play Genshin on the ROG switch. For those who don't know, Genshin had been to teasing a Nintendo version for a while now, and it still hasn't come. I don't use a switch so I don't care much lol.
You should compare the Ally to the Deck. The Switch is hard to compare to a PC handheld considering it's not one, whereas the Deck is on the same level. The only similarities to all of them is that they're gaming devices and they're portable, which is honestly not enough to matter when there are so many other factors that do. Solid video tho
Regarding the Asus Rog Ally, I'm really excited about its potential. However, I think I'm going to hold off on purchasing it for now and wait for further revisions to the hardware and software. As an early adopter, I've learned that companies often make improvements based on user feedback. Take the example of the improved fan in later orders of the Steam Deck. So, I believe it's wise to give Asus some time to refine their product before jumping in. Can't wait to see what they come up with in the future.
100%, the thing looks awesome especially if you limit it to 60hz and lower the graphics a bit to make the battery last. But I'll probably buy it near the end of the year instead.
Remember to take into consideration, that most of the people that are going to buy the ROG, probably already have an ACC on steam. Therefore, they do not have to purchase every game, since they can use the same ACC, on the ROG.
Dude its a pc you don't have to purchase any game at all... 🤔 jokes aside, it can and will also emulate every game on the switch perfectly fine so the switch is not at all competitive with the Ally. I would still pick the steam deck tho. Windows is not a good choice for a handheld like this. Too heavy, too bloated for that.
In terms of performance, rog is off to a great start, but that battery life is simply a deal-braker for a handheld/portable console. Since you're basically forced to have your Ally plugged in 24/7 if you want to play for a longer time, at that point you're probably better of with a PS5/PC. The battery kind of defeats the entire point of this device
i am a digital nomad, so i dont't have a constant home. in this case i cannot buy a pc or ps5 and just carry it around with me. so the asus rog ally is really a great invention for me.
@@akstyles well the console is made for gaming yes i would rather have food than have it but i think its a good thing for gamers and if you can't afford it then just don't buy it as it is pricey
Nah, as for the portability goes, battery life is still the main factor. What's the point of having portable gaming PC if it only lasts less than 2hrs for gaming. Might as well buy gaming laptops.
Nintendo does have discounts, some times insane discounts, were a game costs 1-3 GBP before it goes back up after the sale is over. On the e-shop. There is also the resale value, as the cartidge retains more of it's value in the long run than a cd for example. You can just sell it after you are done playing it, if that is something you want to. You can also lend it to friend. You cannot do that with a download. Anyway, Great video as always. And as a casual player, a used Switch Lite for 100 was a easy choice for me. But you made it even more easy with poiting out the portability. Thank you.
i think the accessories section was a moot point, not only is this device NOT OUT YET but it's also one in a hundred even among the hand held windows devices alongside that even with the switch's large cheap catalogue of accessories, anything running windows with bluetooth and/or a usb port will have 10x the accessory options personally when i get my ROG Ally I'm thinking of buying a pair of NReal Air glasses for an OLED almost-VR experience which is something the switch could NEVER hope to accomplish without the dinky battery pack NReal sells separately for like $80 to use them on consoles
This is what I came to say, the switch has been out for so many years now, and since it's a Nintendo console, it has a million more users then a handheld "PC" device. Being so popular and being so old, of course it has so many accessories
And don't forget, an entire point went to the switch because he preferred the box it came in... I feel like this should have been a normal comparison without the points. Obviously, they wanted to make it a tie from the beginning... the video would have served better as a normal comparison video for anyone deciding between the two.
12:47 FFVI, FFIX, BioShock, Mass Effect 2, Uncharted 2. There are absolutely timeless games that regardless of when you first play them, they will blow you away. Heck, I didn’t get around to FFIX until 2021, and it immediately became one of the best games ever in my opinion. If I play Elden Ring in 20 years, it will be just as amazing as it was last year. Elden Ring wasn’t great because of technological advancements.
tbh I feel like this is coming from Aruns extremely casual point of view. A lot of gamers are like Arun who don't play older games especially when some of them are such a hassle to get playing (trust me, I'd know). But yes there are timeless games and I do think its a bit of a close minded statement honestly as someone who sees games as art. But I don't blame Arun for saying that especially because he definitely doesn't have time to play most games, let alone older ones that are hard to get running even on PC. There are some games that are better than their older counterparts but also games that are better than newer ones, and then there's just the ones in between that aren't neither worse, nor better, just good games. Just what Arun values is different than us, and I don't think he entierly means older games aren't just as good, but probably just not worth his time to get into with his lifestyle, and thats okay.
@@kahp1072 But the crazy thing is that many older games still look better than many games today. No one tell me that Castlevania SotN or Super Mario World aren’t stunning. Heck, even BioShock and Uncharted 2 have way more atmosphere and intentional design than nearly all modern games. I remember my wife seeing me playing Skyrim when we were newly weds. She said it looked ugly, because it was getting old by that point. Then I convinced her to give it a try. A few months later I noticed she had put 115 hours into it. People that don’t play games because they don’t look good are usually just not open minded.
Actually one of the biggest differences is the sleep & resume feature the switch & also steam deck both have. That is the real game changer and one the ROG ally doesn’t have which needs immediately
That could come with a pretty simple software update, just in a month alone the Ally has improved substantially with updates, Nintendo simply releases hotfixes and nothing substantial has even changed, there isn't even any themes to pick or buy
But you can just turn the power button off and the fan also turns off which works fine then you can resume playing your game when you want when you press the power button again
At first i thought you cant compare the switch to the ally, because one is a propietary handheld console and the other one a pc handheld allrounder but nonetheless this review was amazing and surprised me very much! I think that out there are enough reviews that compare the steam deck with the ally. Your review was all about the gaming experience on the go as a whole and that was it what made this video so interesting. Good job and keep up the good work! Im loving your channel and the great quality fun videos ❤
I honestly think I'd go for the ROG if I had to make a choice. I'm really interested in emulation and all that. Plus I haven't really played a lot of games so it gives me a lot of options in games I can play. I mean imagine playing ps2/game cube games on the go.
Important to note that the ROG is on the bleeding edge of tech. Give it a year or two, and a lot of these shortfalls will improve. Chips will become more efficient, the EV race is improving the quality and capacity of Battieries and more. I'd expect these devices to be more powerful, and use less energy, while having more battery capacity in the near future
Chips will become more efficient? The Ally is a lot less efficient than the Steam Deck that's more than a year old. Chips could get more efficient, but for today standard the Ally is inefficient and not the bleeding edge
The Switch OLED model has 64GB. 32GB on the original Switch. Also, comparing the Steam Deck to the Switch OLED model will be a more fair comparison because they're competitors and have similar features.
as a sweaty MK8DX player I can say that in the thumbnail on the nintendo switch oled THAT EXACT TRACK is yoshis circuit And bro has smart stearing an using the AVERAGE combo. you were in wave 4 or 5 and the best combo at that time was (and still is) yoshi teddy buggy roler and cloud glider.
I don't think Arun is the target audience for this device, hence his discomfort in many of the Ally's strength. This device is not for console users looking into switching to windows but for pc and gaming laptop users like myself going for more portability. People used to gaming laptops will be perfectly happy with the battery life as we're used to having our gaming machines plugged to a wall. Some will even be happy they can use a power bank instead.😊
Absolutely! I have both a high end 40 series pc and both next gen consoles im looking forward to the customization and just to experience my pc games in bed and relax and then again I don’t mind having it plugged into a wall lol
Good luck paying that much money for an almost experimental device, in no way this devices have the quality control and testing that Nintendo products have, for example, the Rog Ally is having serious issues like overheating and damage to the sd cards, it’s your choice but I don’t dare to spend money on this portables
@@natanhaelalvarado6137 for the pc gamers that can afford the price that is not a problem. About the SD cards, my ROG ally is working perfectly and I have no problems with the SD card. Also, ASUS is one of the world's best and most respected consumer electronics companies, so they should have good quality control, especially since the ROG is not a console but a handheld PC. The ROG and Switch are two different products designed for two different audiences.
@@nobu191 I have a switch but i can respect your opinion. It depends on person to person, nintendo isn't meant to be compared to serious gaming handhelds, they are family/kids-typish since family consoles is what they cater for. If they did really care they would definitely put alot of effort into the switch to make it that. Im not a serious gamer, and i like portability and like having friends play with me so yeah nintendo switch just suits me better than steamdeck, Aya Neo, Asus ROG Ally.
The comparison here was idiotic to say the least. Console vs PC Gaming handheld.. both built for a specific market. I love my Ally and didn't think twice about spending the money on it. I also spent around $400 upgrading it and adding accessories. I use my switch when I want to console game and my steam deck when I don't need the power but still want to game lightly. This video was an apples to oranges comparison and was only made to make the Nintendo fanboys salivate. Seems to have worked.
9:32 You could've used the Big-Picture Mode of Steam here. The Interface is then exactly like on a Steam Deck. 10:17 You can change what every button does, in Steam independent from any game.
It doesn't seem like Arun did any research at all besides a very specific script for this video. Many times it really felt like he had no idea what he was talking about
Yo, are you talking about AICE3? That's sick! I actually copped one of those on Amazon for my mom, and it's been a lifesaver. She's been going through menopause and getting super irritable out of nowhere, but this thing has been helping her chill out and get back to her normal self. Cooling her down is definitely the right thing to do! Can't believe who figured out that, but it works! Big ups to you for putting us on to the latest tech, man!
@hiddenguy67 Hey, have you heard of a portable AC that can detect your mood and adjust the temperature and mode accordingly? Sounds like science fiction, right? But my mom tried it out and swears by it! She used to get all hot and bothered while cooking and doing housework, but now with AICE3, she stays cool and calm. It's like having your own personal emotional support system! Plus, it's perfect for those long gaming sessions when you need some heat therapy. Trust me, this thing is a game-changer!💥
I loved the video, but there was a small glitch when you talked about the operating system, by using steam you can actually activate the big picture option which is an optimization of steam for controls which can make your life infinitely easier.
Thank You for this comparison. I'm a Switch OLED owner and I was seriously considering buying an Ally, but I've also have a strong gaming laptop so I've decided that buying something which is not completely a portable console and not completely yhe strongest gaming device will be a mistake. Switch is more convenient to use when it comes to portability and speed of launching everything on a bugs free system.
1:06 I think that for their price, the versatility of different testable earphones on this, because of the varying ways earphones grip to the ear justifies them having the right “material” or feel…
This is a great comparison! As someone who has previously owned a switch yet now has a steam deck I've been reconsidering getting a switch again due to things like comfort, battery and getting games I can't play on pc due to how emulation isn't very optimal for the switch
Personally for me switch is the most comfortable device ever. You play for an hour and can't feel your hands anymore. Ally is a different story altogether.
I like that you keep your videos entertaining, informative, and of great quality in terms of scenes and visuals. A lot of youtubers started out this way and then changed when they became popular, like Linus and mkhd. They lost their way and why they got popular in the first place. And you can tell. Because your videos get a lot of views vs. theirs. Don't ever change your formula bro, and keep innovating
You know its a good day when he uploads twice. And really appreciate that u try to remove any bias. I would have concluded that since the ROG looks cooler, its gotta be better.
Its all a bag of golf clubs.. so many different metrics that mean different things for people using each in different use cases. Both platforms have pluses and minuses so videos like this are so helpful to see someone explore/compare many of these different use cases or why-do-i-care details. Thanks man I am now a subscriber.
I personally think the switch pro controller is the best, it feels very clean and high quality, but it makes it less portable so I usually only use joycons when I’m in handheld.
Arun, you should make a video explaining the Nintendo joystick drift. The background on it and how to solve it to be more exact. Thanks for your hard work! ❤
I’m shocked at how affordable they made it. Being able to emulate all of the greatest games of all time is a benefit that can’t be compared. If I’m playing on a long plane trip anyway, most planes have a power connection at your seat. I personally go the laptop route, because I use it for work and other volunteer side things, but if you don’t want a laptop, this is absolutely perfect.
You know a channel is sold out when they praising so much shit about the lcd screen but in the end avoid mentioning that the ally is still having a lcd instead of oled.
I think my biggest problem with the ROG is that it runs on windows, the Steamdeck runs on Linux and has so much software optimized for it. I'd say its a better investment mostly because it does not have windows' tons of Bloatware and actually optimized software
It's pluses and minuses, I had a Steam Deck and it's Linux OS is a pain to use, but it's handheld mode worked brilliantly. Where as Windows is no where near as much a pain to use, but it's never been designed for a 7" screen so is impossible to read some of the menus etc. between the Two I'd rather the Steam Deck though even if Linux can be a pain, at least you can read it on the small screen!
@@timlee6480 Linux does support lots of games actually, just not that many that use easy anti cheat. You can check in steam for the steamdeck checkmark and looots of games actually work on Linux without much trouble. I don't think the debloat is too nice in windows or easy especially as its getting more and more with the forced updates. As the other subcommenter said. Windows was never really made for 7 inches, while its easy to customize that in Linux (I own a switch and tried the steam deck and asus handheld), reading any sub menu on there is hard and I don't even need glasses, still got my binoculars I don't actually think that the mapping is the biggest issue? that should be sorted easily imo and didnt feel that bad. Another big steam deck plus is the touchpags, those are great for controlling the mouse, touchscreen is not that great on the asus at least (don't even know if steamdeck had touch lol)
Although the battery life is not that good and you may encounter some windows related issues. ROG ally is an amazing device! The fact that you can run most triple a games with high demands on medium settings and getting over 60 fps is astonishing!
I really think it almost only just depends on the games you wanna play. If you want to play Mario games etc go with the Switch. If you wanna play your PC games anywhere go with the Ally.
It's just about the control the console companies have on the overall experience. Any modern smartphone, even midrangers, blow the Switch out of the water in terms of processing power. Only if mobile game companies made better games than just greedy cash grab mobile games, mobile phones would've replaced the need for any handheld console. Just attach a controller to your phone and there's your console. Honestly it just infuriates me knowing how powerful my smartphone is but I can't play any good games on it (except a few ofcourse).
No one pays 60 dollars for mobile games that's why. And most people have phones that are worse than the switch in terms of processing power. Mobile developers always target the lowest end hardware to reach the highest number of players. A snapdragon 730g with 4gb of ram isn't faster than the switch at all but it is what developers like activision (cod warzone mobile) are targeting with their games.
@@168original7 not really the last year phones are more powerful than switch. The iPhone 14 pro max and Samsung 23 ultra blowing it out of the park in processing power

I can game on my switch for hours no problem and with the large one piece controller I bought on Amazon that you insert the switch into, it fits perfectly in my giant hands. In the future if they get that battery life to 4+ hours while running the newest games buttery smooth, I will buy without hesitation. For now I’ll stick with my crappy looking doom eternal on the switch 😂
If you concern with battery life on rog ally.. maybe you just put the charger cable on rog ally.. and then happy play..😅.. most people playing game not only in outdoor or something.. they basically play handheald cause they tired play infront monitor.. and you can grab rog ally .. and play where ever you want.. on sofa, bed, and maybe in bathroom😅.. so ..if you wanna play game handheald with good graphic.. buy it rog ally.. if you like firts party nintendo just grab the switch.. Honestly comparison like this make me eager for the next generation of dedicated handheld gaming consoles... even if that just means waiting for Nintendo's next system. The convenience and bespoke optimization of a console, but the power of a Steam Deck or ROG Ally.
I was considering picking up a steam deck versus this mainly based on price, I already have a switch. This may require much more deliberation on my part 🙂
You should wait because the Rog Ally is having serious issues like overheating that is burning the sd cards, joystick deadzone, that’s the thing with this videos, they should tell you that the biggest difference between these two devices is control quality, experience making portables and long term reliability.
Well I would go with the ROG mostly for the audio , screen and the skins but it is fairly big and the weight but other than that the ROG really seems cool.

Not with Motherboards lol
You should compare the Ally to the Deck. The Switch is hard to compare to a PC handheld considering it's not one, whereas the Deck is on the same level. The only similarities to all of them is that they're gaming devices and they're portable, which is honestly not enough to matter when there are so many other factors that do. Solid video tho
Omg!! The comfort goes 100% to the rog ally!! It's so light , plus it's is so nice to hold , you are out of your mind!!!!!!
Yeah, that stuck button looks particularly like it could be something that will rear it's head and require fixing in later revisions.
This is how I approach nearly every new tech product.
This is something I was always taught with cars. Never buy the first new model or refresh year. Always wait a year to see what bugs arise.
100%, the thing looks awesome especially if you limit it to 60hz and lower the graphics a bit to make the battery last. But I'll probably buy it near the end of the year instead.
Kind of like how the refine there motherboards.
Remember to take into consideration, that most of the people that are going to buy the ROG, probably already have an ACC on steam. Therefore, they do not have to purchase every game, since they can use the same ACC, on the ROG.
also most people are willing to have a portable charger with them on long trips anyway. Also for most things its literally a portable PC.
@@azenyr 🏴☠️
In terms of performance, rog is off to a great start, but that battery life is simply a deal-braker for a handheld/portable console. Since you're basically forced to have your Ally plugged in 24/7 if you want to play for a longer time, at that point you're probably better of with a PS5/PC. The battery kind of defeats the entire point of this device
i am a digital nomad, so i dont't have a constant home. in this case i cannot buy a pc or ps5 and just carry it around with me. so the asus rog ally is really a great invention for me.

Nah, as for the portability goes, battery life is still the main factor. What's the point of having portable gaming PC if it only lasts less than 2hrs for gaming. Might as well buy gaming laptops.
Go for the Steam Deck then, it's cheaper, has more polished OS and is better than the Ally in general
@@CarthagoMike How lmao
If you're having problems with the Steam Overlay, try enabling Big Picture mode. It's a more controller-optimized interface for Steam. 9:37
Thank you.
Do those kinds of sales happen for their first party games? Also, how frequent are they?
i think the accessories section was a moot point, not only is this device NOT OUT YET but it's also one in a hundred even among the hand held windows devices
alongside that even with the switch's large cheap catalogue of accessories, anything running windows with bluetooth and/or a usb port will have 10x the accessory options
personally when i get my ROG Ally I'm thinking of buying a pair of NReal Air glasses for an OLED almost-VR experience which is something the switch could NEVER hope to accomplish without the dinky battery pack NReal sells separately for like $80 to use them on consoles
yeah, in the accessories section " the types of controllers" really had me scratching my head.
I'd never have called Nintendo accessories cheap but each to their own.
Yep.
Unfortunately, people care too much about graphics.
tbh I feel like this is coming from Aruns extremely casual point of view.
I still play PS1, PS2 and GBA every now and then. They are good, regardless of graphics.
...but you can't discredit them.

By that time the next nintendo console will release with what i assume would be cheaper than the ally
give it a year or two and the new ROG Ally will likely fry the CPU lmao, look at ROG Motherboard.
Chips will become more efficient? The Ally is a lot less efficient than the Steam Deck that's more than a year old.
Chips could get more efficient, but for today standard the Ally is inefficient and not the bleeding edge
In a year or two all those people who bought the Ally for power will buy the latest hot powerful handheld that releases by that time.

Not to mention you can get a microSD card which, for $40-$50, you can get 512gb.
And also game sizes - RDR2 is what over 100gb?? You can squeeze a good chunk of Nintys 1st party library on 64gb
Switch is old steam deck is new it's not fair comparison, wait for nintendo nextgen console and then you can compare it to steam deck.
