i read somewhere.. "if you love something set it free.. if it comes back it's all yours"
Years ago i did the same when i realized no matter how much love i have in heart for that person I won't be good for her..it was painful.
But almost a decade later that person returned.. became mine
. we shared love, our pain and all.
But eventually that person had to withdrew...
Now I'm back to eternal loneliness or as the Djinn said "Hope is a monster Alithea, and I'm its plaything"

The rule of three is a storytelling principle that states three acts/characters is the most satisfying combination to a story. The number three makes many appearances in the film:
The film title mentions three thousand years.
The number 3 makes many appearances in the background of the film (eg during one of Alithea's train rides, the Arabic number "3" (thalatha) is visible in the graffiti on the window behind her).
The Djinn offers Alithea three wishes.
The Djinn tells Alithea three tales from his history.
The film ends with the Djinn visiting Alithea every three years.

Alithea is a really mature woman in mind and careful with her words.
She knows that if her presence in a man's life will make his life a bit unbearable for him,she will be willing to let him go. Cling to nothing, she's aware of the other aspect of wishes and the consequences attached to it. This is self awareness and willingness to be open to new experiences.

In the story, the Shah found out that his wife cheated on him, so he had her beheaded, after which he married again every morning and beheaded his new spouse every evening. Scheherazade started telling him various stories and not finishing them every night, so that the Shah would delay her execution, wanting to hear the rest of the story. After a 1001 nights, the Shah abandoned his way and refused to behead Scheherazade and they lived happily ever after. What a lovely story.

I'm only 3 minutes in and I've decided this is what I'm watching tonight. Movies like this arnt usually my cup of tea, but I trust the staff and personally, I just need am escape right now. I've surprised myself many times with movies I passed on. I even have a list of movies I refuse to rewatch. 2 of which are Marley and Me(I can't even get past the first 20 pages of the book it's based on.) I'll never watch that a second time. Also Seven Pounds. That movie came out at a time in my life where suicide was on the table. Even reinforced my idea was that he donated his organs premeditated before it. How his brother was was how my brother was. Also a weird one, That Awkward Moment. Really one of the only romcoms from the male perspective. Was absolutely refreshing. I like to send women home with the homework of watching it to see if there are any red flags to her. Most women turn it off when they see its about the male perspective lmao. Some other gems on the list but these ones stand out as a firm immediate "no" to the notion of watching them. Adamant on it. I'm not crying that hard again. Wanna see me cry let's watch the finale of scrubs, the real finale.

I wonder, what is his individual name?
Also, "Iblis" (in English: Evil), is the so-called King of the evil Djinn (s), called: the Shaython (s) (in English: Satans).
As Djinn (s) can be good ones (The Believers, Moosleem Djinn (s)). Or evil ones (The Shaython (s)).

This film can easily be a companion piece to 1001 Nights, AKA Les 1001 Nuits (1990). Indeed, both films are a reimagining of the Sheherazade tales strained through a modern filter.
In both films, the principal characters relay a series of Middle Eastern stories full of magic, mystery, love, and intrigue.
However, the earlier French film was comical in tone and structure, as the principal characters used a series of contrivances to jump backward and forward through time.
This film, loosely based on a short story collection, the Djinn and the Nightingale's eye by novelist A. S. Byatt (1994), was more serious and had a romance novel motif. The principal character relayed the experiences of his long life through a series of fanciful tales.
That said, the French film, which is almost lost to history, is notable as being the first feature credit of the lovely Catherine Zeta-Jones. She not only performed many of her own stunts but also did several nude scenes.
This film, on the other hand, was far less kinetic. Relying instead on Mrs. Swinton's quiet performance as a person dented by life and reluctant to open themselves up emotionally to a potential new lover. Even though the romantic partner was a supernatural creature. (☉‿☉✿)

They advertised it as this trippy, sci-fi, almost adventure comedy from "the director of Mad Max".
Instead they should've stayed true to what the film really is (a love story from a different perspective).
I believe the film would have performed better at the box office because it would've been more likely to bring in the ideal audience.
While I thoroughly enjoyed thefilm, most people I spoke to who saw it told me that it wasn't what they expected.

The one thing that irks me about this movie is that non of the women used their wishes to be free of their situation. Wtf is wrong with them. Gulten could have at least freed herself from slavery even if she still wanted to be with the prince. Zefir could have freed herself from the marriage she did not want and the burden of sleeping with the old man, but she still didn't? Wtf is wrong with these women? Do they like being in bondage?
The worse type of bondage to be in is mental bondage. Their freedom was in their hands, yet they didn't take it.

The movie was good. I kept waiting for the twist, that the Djinn wasn't real though. That everything was her hallucinations as her mind had completely broken with reality.

Cinematographer John Seale came out of retirement for the second time to shoot this movie. He'd previously done so in 2012 to shoot Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), also directed by George Miller.
