I bought my first VCR (a Sanyo Betacord) in 1978, and when "Annie Hall" finally appeared on cable TV I recorded this scene and watched it over and over. I'd love to know how many takes it took to get this keeper.
I remember the first time I saw this when I was 17 and I really liked the way the movie just stopped and we could listen to a song. It was very impressive everyone walked out of the theater knowing we had seen a great movie.
The fact that she played Annie in Annie Hall and Theresa in Looking for Mr. Goodbar in the same year (1977) with completely opposite attitudes and distinct mannerisms shows exactly why she's not just a comic actor, but a very versatile one. Love Diane!!!
She was great in Annie Hall and glad she won. But I always thought she should've got it for her stunning work in Looking for Mr. Goodbar. It came out the same year, so I guess it's a moot point. Both were great films, albeit very different in tone. Diane is truly a gifted actress.
Look, if Woody wouldn't have given her a role like this, another role would have found her way by another director and she would have been recognized, she is that good..💯
She really showed what a talented actress she is with this performance. She was perfectly cast for the roll and really nailed her performance. Well deserved Academy Award for Best Actress.
Best rendition of this song I've ever heard. I never knew she could sing like this. The most beautiful moment in the film. Also loved the simple piano accompaniment....
One of my favorite scenes in one of my favorite movies. Beautiful song, voice and actress. Diane Keaton nailed this scene and earned a very well deserved academy award.
I remember seeing her in the 1970s on various shows (Merv Griffin maybe, that sort) singing these minimalistic songs, and SO wished she would issue an album of them.
One of the best movies ever made. ❤ Saw it countless times. It was Woody Allen’s best movie and I have seen them all. Diane Keaton was phenomenal in this. She went from an insecure young girl to a self-assured confident woman in 90 minutes!
She stood by Woody Allen through thick and thin and me too! I keep hoping they will live happily ever after someday, nothing against their current spouses. And The Sorrow and the Pity is my personal triumph too. Annie Hall is the Walden Pond of New York City.
One of the really great talents. I will never understand how she didn't get an Academy Award for her performance in Reds, one of the most powerful, moving performances I've ever seen.
Seems like old times, having you to walk with Seems like old times, having you to talk with And it's still a thrill just to have my arms around you Still the thrill that it was the day I found you Seems like old times, dinner dates and flowers Old times, staying up all hours Making dreams come true, doing things we used to do Seems like old times here with you.
I recall seeing Diane on the Letterman show (years back) and she was asked about her singing voice - she essentially said she didn't have one and sort of laughed off the question. I immediately disagreed, as I clearly recalled this wonderful and touching scene from "Annie Hall" and how Diane made it work - perfectly!
I watched Mr Goodbar the other night and I couldn't believe this was the same Diane Keaton. Hard to believe she made that movie because she was never the naughty type
This song does not hold a candle to the time Diane sang "Do It Again" on "The Tonight Show." I wish that was up on TH-cam because it was sensational. Diane even had a tear on her cheek.
Me acuerdo viendo esta película con mi mujer. No pudimos terminarla porque siempre estábamos besándonos. ¡Jajaja! Lo pasamos muy bien juntos. Ella me amaba y yo le amaba también. Ella me hacía reír. Sus padres no querían que nos casáramos. Ella siempre estará en mi ánima. Mea pulchra.
Diane made a slight error first verse or stanza. "Walk with" repeated twice whereas it should have been "Walk with" and "talk with." She can sing the phone book and I'd love her still.

The absolute pinnacle of Woody Allen's directorial work and also one of the best U.S. movies ever made, God I love the 70s...
I was so enthralled by her rendition, that I went back to the theater with a cassette recorder so I could keep it. 🤩
Love that!!!
Thats super cute good idea
I bought my first VCR (a Sanyo Betacord) in 1978, and when "Annie Hall" finally appeared on cable TV I recorded this scene and watched it over and over. I'd love to know how many takes it took to get this keeper.
I bet you would never have believed what you could do now with technology (ie. TH-cam), but it was so satisfying to go in and have that recording.

Mr Goodbar painful true story
@@winstonsmith9533 its a shame its forgotten nowadays
The eyes, the smile, the voice.....sublime. Diane nails it all.
Are you really old, really deaf, or a little of both. She sucks. Her voice is GROSS.
She is awful. Terrible.
@@buggabuggaboy bet your favorites are Billie Eilish or Kanye West
They way she uses her eyes...Wow! One of the great songs from any movie.
Rodney Ross agree in every way
So true!!!
Most of the time things are done to preclude hearing a singer's breath and breathing in the microphone. In this case it is SO, SO attractive. Whew!
Diane Keaton is amazing. Her best performance. She deserves that Oscar
She was great in Annie Hall and glad she won. But I always thought she should've got it for her stunning work in Looking for Mr. Goodbar. It came out the same year, so I guess it's a moot point. Both were great films, albeit very different in tone. Diane is truly a gifted actress.
She's magical.
Don't forget Reds. There's a scene where she meets Warren Beatty at the train station---and her face...
Look, if Woody wouldn't have given her a role like this, another role would have found her way by another director and she would have been recognized, she is that good..💯
She really showed what a talented actress she is with this performance.

Not only a great actress...a wonderful singer too. I fell in love with Diane when I watched this film and this scene particularly
I like to stop back here now and again. Still as great as ever...
still my favorite movie of all time
The eyes, the smile, the voice.......sublime. I still like to watch this every now and again
I woke up today hearing this song in my head and had to watch this video again. Always wonderful.........
Same😂!
omgg love this song she sang it at her AFI awards awww
So beautiful, talented and lacking in arrogance. An all time great.
The best movie of all times. I've watched it like 30 times and it still feels like the first time.
Diane Keaton is a total heartbreaker in this scene. 😍
One of my favorite scenes in one of my favorite movies.
Beautiful song, voice and actress.
Diane Keaton nailed this scene and earned a very well deserved academy award.
Beautiful, sweet performance by MS. Keaton, this was my favourite part of my favourite movie for a long time, SO SWEET !
Let's also remember Gordon Willis cinematography. Check the long shots with the pianist in the background.
If this doesn't touch your heart you haven't got one ...
I still like to come by and watch this now and again.....still great
expressive eyes with the bewitching voice drills the song home ... amazing talent!
What a beautifully women she was and still is ..my congratulations to woody Allen for giving great talent a break in his movies they both were genius
Never heard a better version of this song than this one. Amazing
Diane really belted this one out of the park!
Still great....a smile on my face, and tears in my eyes...watched it twice.....
Wonderful, isn't she?!
Damn! Back then she actually recorded most of an album of classic and then just dropped the project. I would love to hear it.
I remember seeing her in the 1970s on various shows (Merv Griffin maybe, that sort) singing these minimalistic songs, and SO wished she would issue an album of them.
I could listen to her sing alllllll day.

She never married.
Wow she was so besutiful and what a wonderful singer !!!!🎉
With her charming coy signing just this side of bad and her kooky sense of self and dress she would’ve been the perfect sSally Bowels
One of the really great talents. I will never understand how she didn't get an Academy Award for her performance in Reds, one of the most powerful, moving performances I've ever seen.
Happy Birthday, Dear Diane Keaton!
Best Wishes, Muse!
God bless you!
You're the one!
Thanks for everything! ✨️🥂🍾❤️
Been a while since stopping by here. Still as great as ever...
Great actors who can also really sing are always better than great singers who can also act.
I'm afraid Streisand puts a lie to that one!
Dead on and well put!

Wow- a Hollywood star doing her own singing in a movie and doing a great job - just how rare is that?!
Still like to come here now and again....great as ever....
Her voice has a bit of a Minnie Ripperton thing going on. Very soft and tender.
One day when my time will come I want to be listening to this song.
Best eye acting ever.

@@subhajitkarmakar291 you too!
This one and 'Tonight You Belong to Me' from The Jerk remind me of one another. Both so beautiful and charming in this almost Vaudeville sort of way.

She was being honest. She is awful at singing. It's never good to lie on david letterman!
@@buggabuggaboy Well now a lot of people commenting hear disagree. I'm with them. But, respectfully, you are entitled to your opinion .
Makes my knees tingle👍🏻
Sweet voice. Great scene
Keaton was sensational in this scene
The sexiest vocal performance in film history.
Wow. Speechless
Just utterly sublime, nobody besides Jimmy Durante could have done it better
I saw this when I was 18 and wished she was my girlfriend. I still long for “that” Diane Keaton.
this was so emotional to me
She snarls at 1:27 lol (great scene though)
Love it!!! Is this available on an album?
What a Brilliant song after 23 years of marriage then it all went away CRAZY Change of Life. WTF? I love ❤️ Hearing Diane singing.

Diane, I can't stand you because you are extremely annoying and I do not like any of your movies and YOU CANNOT SING.
BEAUTY & TALENT! Both so lacking in today's musical-(NOISE) world!
I AGREE!
God I love this.
Thank you!
Somehow, the topic of singing and music in movies came up and I said "How about Diane Keaton in Annie Hall' . / "You know what? " "You're right!!!"

As Aimee Nolte likes to put it, your mom is two-dimensional! 😂😆🙃
Yeah she sucked then and throughout her career. She is awful!

yikes. awesome.
Woody Allen deserves a special place in hell for retroactively tainting such a beautiful film with his at least creepy and at most criminal behavior.

Ah, young people acting like old people.
Sorry....but this was so creepy. The camera angle, her sinister smiling, the darkness...just was not a good move or shot.
