    I love that they say that they had to learn the CORRECT name and pronoun, many people talk about "prefered" names and pronouns but like, it's not prefered, it's YOUR pronoun

    • @Sweetie.21
      @Sweetie.21 4 ปีที่แล้ว +53

      Well, I guess some people say that because they use multiple pronouns/names.

      @@Sweetie.21 True ... I use multiple but my preferred is they/them ... I don't care if I'm called he/him ... and I do enjoy if I'm called per/per/per/pers, e/em/eir and ki/kin/kins .... but they ain't necessary

    • @Morna777
      @Morna777 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I mean even if it is a preference, if someone's legal name is Michael and they tell you they prefer Mike, you're being kind of a jerk if you keep calling them Michael.

    • @DinosaurNick
      @DinosaurNick 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Morna777 Exactly
      Like my brother is named Robert but he hates Robert and prefers Robby
      My dad is named Robert and goes by Bob
      Everyone calls my sister Sis as a nickname
      But the second I told people to call me my chosen name instead of my deadname they freaked out as if I was the problem
      Same for my nephew. He changed his name to Jordan because he hated his birth name. So his bro and sis call him his birth name on purpose to piss him off.

    It seems to be a recurring theme in the stories of parents talking about their responses to their kids coming out that they are afraid by how other people will treat their kid, not always actually judgmental of their kid's identity.

      Kelsey S True, the parents who couldn't accept it and wouldn't adapt or come around to the fact that their kid is trans aren't going to be the kind of parents who are willing to sit down and give a Q&A about it with their trans kid. Jaimie's parents seem absolutely lovely. He's lucky, and I hope that more people will take a leaf from their book in supporting and understanding their trans child.

    As a trans-parent, I would also advise other trans-parents to tune out the political and religious nonsense, and read up as much as possible on the scientific/medical journal articles on trans. They will relieve you of any guilt you may have, as science understands this phenomenon to be either 100 percent genetic or a result of a hormone surge in the uterus during fetal development. But do your own medical/ scientific research; it helps a lot.

    Your parents are so supportive. My mum is in her own way supportive of me being a lesbian. But it's honestly a bit insulting to me. She says things like. Well even if you turn out to be gay, I'm okay with that, but I don't think you can know until you've been in a relationship with a girl. I'm still in an early stage of coming out and I feel very awkward when I talk about it, so I find it difficult to tell my mom that I really am gay.

      I can relate. My mom is generally accepting, but she's somewhat confused with all the newly talked about identities. I once talked about intersex people with her, and how biological sex consists of many factors, and she was both interested in the new information, and dissappointed that she wasn't taught anything about it when she was in school. She was like she had been bethrayed. 😂 But she's a bit sceptical about non-binary people for example, she once said, "I wonder if androgyny is somehow trendy now?" And I felt a bit offended, as an androgynous woman, (and I didn't begin to explain to her how androgyny and non-binary are different) but I just answered, "I think people just have more vocabulary now", or something like that, and she didn't disagree. I have recently realized I have a crush on a woman, but I don't know if I'll tell my mom before I find out what my crush thinks about me and how things really are between us. I haven't talked to my mom much about my crushes in general, so it's awkward.

    I've probably watched this video 3 times by now. Your parents just seem so genuine and kind, and they obviously love you so much. It's really encouraging to see how accepting and proud they are of you. (Also, seeing Benji being a cutie-pie in the background is a bonus. Such a good boy!)
    I'm still debating on if I'll ever come out to my parents. On one hand, I know they hold a lot of transphobic sentiments, mostly because of their conservative religion. On the other hand, I also know most of their knowledge on trans people is founded on misunderstanding, and that despite our ideological differences, they love me a lot. I used to be adamant about "oh, I'll just never ever tell them" but now I'm at least starting to consider it. In a safe, "write a letter, leave it in their mailbox in the middle of the night, and then turn off my phone for 3 days while they process it" sort of way, lol
    Watching videos of how your loved ones are so encouraging and accepting makes me feel better as I'm starting to let some of my friends find out, and your videos in general have been a lifesaver for a baby trans. Also, I *swear* I am capable of writing comments that are less rambly, over-sharing, and emotional. Theoretically. Maybe. My point here was that your parents are good and deserve all the good things in the world. :)

    ive seen some videos with parents of trans kids where they seem apprehensive to talk even though they supported their child, idk why they do that and theres no shame bc theres tons of reasons, but it was really nice to see parents who were extremely at ease and talked so extensively. i think thats really helpful to parents of trans folks to see. also i didnt expect the scottish accents i love it!!! love mr and mrs raines

      My childhood was let's just say less than ideal and I had the same experience watching other kids interact with their parents. I have since been "adopted " by friends parents and their siblings and this has helped more than I can explain. I'm even on the short list of who gets informed about family events ie engagement, pregnancy and illnesses. Feels like a fresh start. I hope I can do this for my children's friends if the need should arise.

    omg my mom kinda had the same point about having worries as a parent, she told me that has a parent you're just worried for your child because you want them to be happy and be treated well and you don't want them to come to harm, so worried in that way. I love seeing other parents say that.

      This is 5 years late but I'm in the exact same situation. Non english-speaking transphobic dad. And the stuff I found in our native language, he keeps saying it's the person's opinion that transgender people's pronouns and names have to be respected. He says he can accept that I "think" I'm trans, but doesn't have to consider me a girl since he doesn't see me as one.

    Your parents are so sweet! It's really lovely to see supportive parents plus they have great accents! I wonder what made them so open to your transition; like were they raised that way or develop their views later in life before you came out. In my experience I've seen a lot of resistance with older parents and individuals.

  • @PandaliasKay

    You have the sweetest parents. I'm hoping that my experience coming out to my dad will be okay. This has calmed some of the anxiety about it, but I know that being (from the sounds of it) about 10 years older, and my dad being a more conservative person, that it will probably be much harder on him. I'm hoping things work out, but I'm glad that you have supportive and understanding parents who wanted to learn more about you and your transition.

I'm sure you know this, but you're so lucky to have parents who have made such an effort to learn how to understand and support you through everything you've gone through! Your brother is great too from what I've seen in other videos. My hope is one day every person has such love in their lives. ❤

    Thank you so much for making this video! I've come out to my mum and am still concerned about how she's dealing with the idea of having a son rather than a daughter (I want her to think of me as the same person, not that she's lost a daughter, since she's already lost a daughter before). I've not come out to my dad yet and I have no idea how he's going to react. This has given me a bit of confidence in telling him.
