    Great video! So informative, especially for someone like myself who doesn't know much about oil changes.

    Ive changed mine several mines in 1700 miles, it was silver for the first 2, even after i dumped the original before i even started it. I set my valves at .003 intake and .0005 exhaust and the are pretty quiet

      Thanks. I'll try setting them a little tighter now that the engine is broken in.

    My friend recently picked up a couple of Hawks for himself & I and a scooter for his mother. After draining the shipping oil out of them we put Lucas 10W 40 atv/utv oil that's good for wet clutches. So far the only mods that have been done is a Nibbi PE30 carb on both with pod filters and a Nibbi ignition coil on mine. He hasn't put the coil on his yet. Both start instantly with choke and have good throttle response.
    Once we put a few miles on them we're going to switch out the Lucas oil for some Red Line racing oil that has high zinc content in it that's made for motorcycles. It'll be pricey oil wise but the added zinc should help the engine last longer since it has flat tappet lifters in it. Also, if you want to help it further add some Marvels Mystery Oil into your fuel. It'll help the gasoline give it further lubricity since modern gas is quite dry. :)

      How do you think the ignition upgrade go? Was it noticeable or significant?

    • @Slane583
      @Slane583 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@billwesley2213 The upgrade went well. It's very easy to change out. I can't really compare it to the original as it was swapped out almost instantly on my bike. My friend on the other hand ran his original coil for a bit and he said the upgraded coil was much better.
      We also switched out the stock resisted spark plug boot for a 90-degree non-resisted MSD brand spark plug boot like you find on cars. If you go this route it requires the little screw on cap that comes with new spark plugs in order to work.
      Our bikes also have upgraded Nibbi carburetors with pod filters and the air box was gotten rid of. Because of our sea-level we couldn't even get the bikes to run with the stock carbs let alone drive them. So this was a requirement for us.
      My most recent upgrade to the Hawk I did last weekend was installing the Nibbi Quarter-Turn twist throttle I originally bought for another machine of mine. I also installed my Neon Pink lock-on Pro Taper grips along with switching the stock throttle cable for the proper Nibbi throttle cable that installs into the unit. Now the bike is much more responsive when accelerating.
      Our sprockets were switched out for ones that would give us faster travel speed while on road and the chain was upgraded to higher quality chain that is less likely to break while riding.
      In the future I would like to switch out the exhaust for one that is more free flowing as the bike can now breath better. So eventually we need to make it exhaust better. But until then they're shaping up the way we want them.
      Even with all of the upgrades and parts replacements we have done it's still not going to equal the price of a similar cheap Honda or Kawasaki bike. Also, in order to get more longevity out of the bike I am going to start running motorcycle oil in it that has a high zinc content once it's first true oil change comes around and some miles are put on it.
      The Hawk is a fun bike and is truly meant for those who like to tinker. If you don't like to tinker or don't care about customizing then the Hawk isn't for you. :)

    With the valve chatter issue on the CG engine...You're correct. Even in spec they're noisy. I threw the feeler gauge out the window and shored them up by feel myself. TDC, i pull on the rockers up and down and visually check, listening for tapping and adjust for play. No issues or noise doing that. I simply got frustrated with how much noise it made in spec. Others would tell me my valves need adjusted...not anymore. Lots of younger guys don't realize that this engine type is simply not a quiet engine.

      @TyposGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think I'm going to do the same. It is obnoxious how loud they are in spec. Thanks for the info!

    I know it's been almost year since you made this video. I just wanted to thank you for it. I just changed the oil for the first time "not including the oil change I did before the firs start" on my lifan xpect @ 100 miles oil looked exactly like yours. You put my mind to ease. Thank You. I liked and subbed

    My 2020 hawk is on its 2nd oil change with 300 miles. Oil (Castro T4) was dark and with obvious wear contamination as it looked like fine particulates in solution…could have filter trapped with a coffee filter. My exhaust clamp never needs tightening…yet. Rusting is not an issue here in central Texas. New oil changed to Rotella T4 about 1.2 qts. Best upgrade so far on my bike was the Amazon $29 Mikuni and new jets. Starts on choke and as it should and throttle response is great. Alway use non ethanol so far at 89 octane. With respect to you and your bike, sounds like your idle is at 2200 rpms…a bit high.

    • @TyposGarage
      @TyposGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep. I have the idle up a little higher because I have to make some adjustments to the A/F mixture. I just haven't had the time yet. It's definitely running a bit rich, at the moment.

    Yo buddy how is it getting a plate for the Hawk in pa ?

    • @bjr2379
      @bjr2379 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't think it's a problem. He has a video on how to make it legal in PA. I also spoke with a local notary who said it was no problem.
      I'm in PA and bought two last week. Powersportsmax.com has them for $1650 delivered to your door. I got mine in 3 days.
      The tires are knobbys, but have DOT stamped in them. So they are street legal for PA state inspection.

    Thanks, Typo, for the videos on the Hawk. What thoughts do you have for a novice on choosing a helmet?

    • @TyposGarage
      @TyposGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, I appreciate it! When it comes to a helmet, I would go with something that has the correct safety certifications. I would say atleast DOT and one more like ECE or SNELL. I would not buy one from Amazon because you can't try it on and get a good fit.

    Does that oil filter ever need changing if not damaged??

    • @TyposGarage
      @TyposGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope. It is just a screen that filters the particulates. I would just inspect it every oil change and replace it if it looks damaged at all.

    Someone please help me, I had such a hard time loosing the plug for the oil to drain out, how can I loosen it? I had the same tool and everything?, btw I’m referring to your scooter oil change video hopefully you’ll see this comment soon!

    • @TyposGarage
      @TyposGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry for the late reply, but we're you able to get it off? There's a chance the previous owner tightened it too much or put loctite on the threads. A little bit of heat may help or a breaker bar.

    • @cutiepie_25
      @cutiepie_25 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TyposGarage yes, I was able to get it off, it took a couple of days to try and get it off but at the end I was able to take it off and drain it and replace it with new oil!
