I remember a man who lived several houses away from my boyhood home riding by with a brand new 750 the first year they were available in the USA.. I ran all the way to his house to see it up close.. he was happy to show it to me and I’ve loved it ever since. I’ve never owned one, but I would love to own one! Love this episode and all episodes!
I have a very similar memory but with a hayabusa. I saw him riding through the neighborhood and so I excitedly rode my bike around every house looking for it. I found him working on it in his driveway and he was happy to let me get a closer look
I've always wanted to do one of these builds but lack the facilities to do it properly. Fortunately I can live vicariously through your channel & can't wait for the next episode.
Finally, for the past 3 years the only content I can find is smallerr engine cbs and all in in the 70s. I got an 82 750 nighthawk sc and cant wait for more content on these
What a package of surprises. You'd have to have a death wish to ride a bike with all those sketchy repairs. Looking forward to the end result.....and the ride to get there. Stu. Melbourne
This channel gets better and better! I have installed a GSX600R-93 front fork on my CB750-74 build. I first tried the All-Balls bearing swap kit, but the GSX steering stem was too short. I had to swap steering stems, the CB750 is 30mm in diameter but the hole in the lower fork brace on the GSX is 30.3mm. I had ream up the hole and make a bushing. But the front forks between CB750K and F could be different.
Happy Easter! Nice one! Those crankshaftbearings needs some kind of "clay" to measure the thickness. Those wheels can be made with spokes quite easily. Remove the rivets, make a ring that fits the hub. In that ring, you make holes for spokes. Find a rim and put it all together. Easy peasy! Looking forward to the next film. Now it's riding time! Cheers!
Thank you mate and yes Ive seen those hub rings before, its a cool idea to also make my own, Im not sure which way I want to go, however, spokes are on my radar for now 👍 Time will tell, Happy Easter to you too
Ooooo this'll be good. The knocking could be a couple of things, primary drive chain tensioner, drive rubbers in the main shaft or dampeners behind the clutch basket.... if there's a "rattle" that can sometimes be the starter clutch bolts working themselves loose or cam chain tensioners needing adjustment.... Vance and Hyde do their own chain tensioners - race quality. Ive been slowly working on my own 82' 750 for bloomin years now and its still not finished with various things getting in the way. More than happy to help you avoid mistakes I've made along the way. Especially if your short on time although ive not done an engine rebuild. My inspiration was Hookie Co's build. They've done a few now but it was their first cb750 79-83 check it out, the one with the stripe across the tank. Good luck Pete
Aint that the truth.... i know from searching for what i thought was a spark issue turned out to be swapped wires at the pulsars ... done by the PO... no workshop manual is ever going to troubleshoot that in a month of Sundays. Keep on keeping on but hurry with the next installment, please 🙏
My 750 makes the same exact rattle at idle. When i pull the clutch it stops. I read somewhere that this is normal clutch rattle, just the frictions and steels rattling on the aluminum cage.
I mean yea all thread might not be the right thing for the job but it’s more than strong enough and if it’s stainless or zinc coated it’s corrosion resistant. Overall the use of threaded rod is ingenuous for a quick fix.
Great video Dan, looking forward to this build. As I have a 1989 GSXR 750 not as bad as your 750, but bad and debating if I should go for it, or just walk a way. Take care and ride safe mate. Cheers from West Oz.
Be patient. Time is your friend. Look things up, nu guessing. Torque things as described in books and web. Use oem parts as much as possible. If it is too much, leave it and come back later. Cheers!
Hey mate, the best thing you can do is start dismantling the engine and putting everything into bags making sure you label every part. The next step is getting yourself a workshop manual and follow it step-by-step, you can easily avoid overwhelmed by just doing one part at a time. If you’re not in a desperate hurry to have it finished, it’s quite rewarding to take your time, and you’ll learn so much in the process. Of course you can google everything and this engine is so popular that there will be loads of videos showing different aspects of the rebuilding process. Hopefully that Help 👍
I haven’t decided if I want to modify the tank or swap it yet however, send me a message on Instagram, and if I get another tank for this bike I will sell you this one. instagram.com/cafe.racer.garage.07/
I don't know if this could be a good idea, but could you place a store with parts for this kind of motorcycle? have a Suzuki Gs 550 and a Nighthawk 650 from Bolivia and I can't find some parts without being scammed.
Whereabouts are you located? If you can get hold of a workshop manual. It will make life a lot easier when reassembling the entire engine Make sure you label everything that you remove so you know where it goes. If you’re unsure about certain parts, you can look at the schematics on CMS website, or possibly, the manual should have the information you require. There’s plenty of videos showing the rebuild of this motor if you get stuck 👍
I have a old moped I want to start a Piaggio Beverly 500 I want to do a cafe racer how much would you charge to do this? I'm disabled and want a big enough bike I can ride with my leg out I've seen only one only done

That's so cool. Yes, they are very cool bikes, but that must have been in 1969 - 1970?
@@CafeRacerGarage Yes, that sounds pretty accurate.. Always wanted to hear one of those cammed up, with the heads opened up, etc.

Hi, I'm from Brazil, and I watch all your videos, there's already part 02 of this beautiful bike!! success!

Yes Stu you are 100 % I wouldn’t have known about some of them if I wasn't rebuilding the whole bike
Can’t wait to see this build take shape mate 👌🏼
Thanks Nick, I appreciate your support and hopefully it will give you some tips and inspiration for your builds
I really hope this series will be like your original videos loved the format for your fist build
I will do my best. Just out of curiosity, what is it you love about the original so much?

I like to rebuild the 70s models myself watching for build ideas, but was hoping to see more of where you order parts and kits from so far.

Thank you so much Pete im always learning and like to avoid the mistakes if possible but sometimes its just part of the process

If you want to change the rake of the bike, would cutting the head stem and rewelding it be acceptable or best left alone?
That knocking sound in the motor, do you know what is the source of that sound? I have a similar sound in my 1980 cb750
Main bearings or piston slap maybe.

Thank you mate 👍
Looks like the engine has been bathing in the same stuff Cleopatra used.Cant wait to see how this one goes Dan. Was that a new lift?
Haha very true, Ive had the lift for a little while now and its a back saver I can tell you 👍
Any tips for someone trying to do an engine restoration / rebuild for the first time as an amateur ?
Be patient. Time is your friend. Look things up, nu guessing. Torque things as described in books and web. Use oem parts as much as possible. If it is too much, leave it and come back later. Cheers!
