BTO WAS AN ICONIC CANADIAN ROCK BAND IN THE 70’s and 80’s. “ You Ain’t Seen Nuthin’ Yet “ hit # 1 in the US. They had many hits like “ Takin’ Care of Business “ and “ Roll on Down the Highway “ and more, definitely worth checking out !

BTO is a Canadian rock band founded by Randy Bachman (the former lead guitarist of the Guess Who) and his brother Robbie , the drummer, along with bassist Fred Turner. Randy and Fred shared duties as lead vocalist, on this song it is Randy. The stutter part was recorded as a joke, Randy teasing his little brother Robbie about his stutter, but the producer loved it so much it was the version that was released, and hit number one on Billboards hot 100 chart.

We all lost Robbie a couple of months ago.

It wasn't Randy's brother Robbie who stuttered. It was another brother of Randy's , Garry, who had the stutter.
Tim Bachman, another of Randy's brothers, was also a founding member of BTO.

"Takin' Care of Business", "Let It Ride", "Hey You", "Gimme Your Money, Please" "Roll on Down the Highway", "Four Wheel Drive" some favorites of mine from BTO. This song is from the album "Not Fragile". that title being a bit of a knock on the group Yes and their prog rock "Fragile" album title. Lead guitars by the great Randy Bachman who also had lead vocals on this song. Randy was a member of the Guess Who and left in May '70 after the success of "American Woman", because of health reasons and differences with Burton Cummings of the Guess Who. Randy wrote the song "Hey You" describing his feelings to his former bandmate Cummings. You'll need the "shylrics" for that one, Biz.

"Bachman- Turner Overdrive - Hey You (1975)" this song was on their 1975 album called "Four Wheel Drive" and it was written by Randy Bachman. It was the first and more successful of two singles issued from this album the second being "Quick Change Artist" I'm glad you enjoyed listening to BTO. They are really considered by some as a "supergroup" due to their pre-success. fun reaction thanks

That stutter in the way he sings this song was done to tease his brother. ---> “Way back when, my brother Garry, one of four Bachman boys, had a speech impediment; he stuttered and stammered. For the ultimate tease I wrote a song like he spoke. Then I called him up and scared him by telling him it would be on the album.

Yo, slow your roll there a little. Let's examine your quote here. "Their greatest hits Lp is as good as anybody's". So their greatest hits is as good as The Beatles "1" Lp.
Twenty seven #1 hits between 1964-70 which is a record to this day and on the "Billboard Top 100 Hits" in the US they had 21 #1 hits which is still a record and a total of 50 hits on the top 100 on the Billboard charts between
      1964-70, another record.
Now that's not just as good as anybody but far above everyone else.
The numbers speaks volumes on how great they were. You used the word good. With The Beatles, I only use the word great but then that's just my opinion and that along with $3.45 will buy me a large regular black coffee at Starbucks.
      Peace ❤

Great reaction, Biz!! BTO was such a fun band to grow up to in the early to late 70’s. Randy Bachman’s former group The Guess Who had a ton of hits in late 60’s-early 70’s. The stuttering cracked us up, and helped make it a novelty hit, all the way to #1. Didn’t know his younger brother band mate stuttered, but it makes perfect sense. Brothers bust on each other that way. It surely helped make a great tune even better!!

This song wasn’t originally intended to have stuttering vocals. Randy Bachman, the lead singer, recorded it that way and sent the copy to the band’s manager, his brother Gary as a joke because Gary stuttered. They re-recorded it without the stuttering but the recording company had heard the other version and liked it better so it was released on the album like you heard it here and it hit #1 on Billboards’s Top 100. The only song with stuttering that ever hit #1
