    I'll take a well done single DD over a dozen BA's or other multiple driver setups any day of the week. Nothing beats the coherency and natural sound of a good single DD. Just my two cents.

      PURE is the word tat come to mind with that kind of system. With complex setups your are walking on egg shells and EQ can really throw the balance out and break overall cohesion.
      I got to test this issue on a fiio iem and felt so disappointed that I returned the purchase after the first week of painful listening. But thankfully not all composites render badly.

    Just a heads-up: Final x Dita Shichiku Kangen seems to be the ultimate A8000. Bought two pairs already. They come with luxurious packaging, great leather cases and two pairs of their mmcx assist tools. Besides, Shichiku Kangen itself has black PVD coating and Shinkin grooves. Bass is slightly more in terms of the amount, but still comes with all A8000 trebles/kids, etc.

    Watching this on my own A8000 right now...
    I recommend going with a balanced cable for this pair.
    In comparison with other similar-priced IEMs, IER-Z1R actually has a deeper base (try Interstellar's Mountains with this) and even wider sound stage, but the vocal is a bit pushed back and highs not as bright/sharp; however, still extraordinary on its own terms.
    I'd think you'd enjoy comparing the A8000 with the IER-Z1R.
    Anyway, thanks, Josh, for another great review.

      khalil crosstalk is an issue you solve when driving balanced. The difference is very small but you can hear it. Also balanced amps usually have a lower noise floor that especially helps with sensitive IEMs.

    • @ZephonWing
      @ZephonWing 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you can't hear the difference (or it's negligible for you), then good for you, really, as you saved yourself a lot of money.

    Final E5000 and Periodic Audio BE are my current favorite IEMs. Of course they are in the below $300 range.
    I think you should list the Final E5000 in your list of links at Amazon as they are the top of the line of the Final E series and they are superb (superior to E4000 which I also own). They even come with a similar case and a cable that looks identical to the A8000 cable in your video. It would be interesting to see a comparison of these with the A8000 to see how much difference there is. I do consider the E5000 one of the best IEM in the under $1000 range as long as you can drive them with something decent because of their 92db sensitivity (I have to trick my LG V-40 phone into high gain mode to give these proper power).
    As far as the Periodic Audio BE it has single dynamic Beryllium drivers that produce that forward "holographic" sound stage (a term I have heard used by a couple of reviewers) that you mention on the A8000. The PA BE is not as detailed as the E5000 but it has that something that makes you be immersed in a space with the music. I also have the more expensive Periodic Audio Carbons that are more detailed than the BEs but lack that something that the Berylliums have. Another Beryllium headphone that I own is the Campfire Cascade over the ear. With the XL pads it also has that immersive sound stage with great detail and imaging. Now, if they could only reduce the bass by about 5db that headphone would be nearly perfect. The ZMF Verite line (~$2,500) over the ear headphones also use Beryllium drivers and are outstanding (only listened to these from a friend that owns the open back version). I am starting to see a trend here with Beryllium dynamic drivers that sound really good, at least to my ears.

    Can you please see if you can review the D8000 and Sonorous VIII and X? There are virtually no reviews of these highly priced cans. Thanks for what you do whether I agree or not I always appreciate the quality and passion behind your reviews.

    One of the reasons they probably don’t offer an additional cable is to reduce e-waste (like with chargers) they would get lost or never used or both. An extra identical cable doesn’t make sense IMO. Maybe one silver and one OCC or something but yeah.... anyway don’t listen to me I’ve got cabin fever cause of that corona crap and felt I needed to comment I guess 😒

    Seems to me when it passes a certain point, high end iems use less drivers. Zeus after all us “only” 750 usd. Campfire Solaris, 64 audio tia Fourté, they don’t use a lot of drivers like 64 audio “mid tier price-wise ” u18t that uses 18 BA’s. Hifiman e2000, Dita audio dream xls, campfire altas and Vega are all single dynamic driver iems.

    • @allydea

      The u18t is hardly mid-tier in price, but it's also quite old now and might be reflecting an older trend.

    For around two years I kept looking for the perfect pair of headphones/earphones, heard of so many brand names, but not this one, never heard of Final Audio until now, went online and found a pair second hand close to me, the thing is...they are horrible, at least compared to my Custom Sony MDR-XB500 (custom drivers), even the Blon-03 sound better, perhaps these are good for something, the sound is a mess, they are Ok, but not fun, or surprising, I have a pair of Audio Tehnica that sound almost the same as these, never use them because of the sound.

    • @sonicthehedgehog989
      @sonicthehedgehog989 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't audition the a8000 yet.
      But I have the z1r and they are amazing, they sound mature and luxurious.
      To me it sounds more premium than my other high end headphones, with premium i mean that when you listen you will know its expensive.

    • @ZephonWing
      @ZephonWing 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have both.
      They have different sound signatures, but both of them are right up there on the top.
      I listen to vocals/pop with A8000, and movie soundtracks/orchestra with Z1R.

    • @sonicthehedgehog989

      @@ZephonWing nice so they are more complementary than competitors.
      Me personally I complement my z1r with hedd audio headphone, they also have a little forward vocals.

    • @ZephonWing
      @ZephonWing 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sonicthehedgehog989 Same here, but depending on the headphone though. The vocals on MDR-Z1R are actually further back compared to IER-Z1R, but those cans are super comfortable (both physical and sonically). I find myself switching from IER-Z1R to MDR-Z1R when I want more or less the same "Sony signature sound," as well as just to relax and maybe doze off a little.
      As for forward vocals... I still need to get myself a pair of HD660s...
