  • Final were keen for me to check out their new flagship IEMs. All I knew is that they used a beryllium dynamic driver. What I heard with them really surprised me.
    Before anyone asks: I don't have the Sony IER-Z1R here any more to directly compare. Maybe I'll have a chance in the future.

    In the video there should be an "almost" before I said "nailed it". An interesting comment from someone who heard them was that they could hear two resonances (I would probably call it "ringing") in the treble in the sibilance region. The CSD plots provided by Final in their materials (Edit: For the E3000) seem to support that (Edit: For those plots, they were below -50dB). That could, arguably, be why they sound a bit hot in the treble.

    • @Ratseeker
      @Ratseeker 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Any chance "burn in" would help with the ringing? Because I had my personal bougbt A8000 for a while now and don't notice this ringing.
      Treble is pretty smooth for me. Though my sources are not considered cold/reference.
      EDIT: I noticed only in bad female pop songs where the song is simbilant on purpose is there any harshness. Ie Gwen Stefani, Love Angel Music Baby album.

    You should really do a review for the Victor HA-FW10000, it's the other single DD (wood!) made in Japan flagship IEM, very few reviews and content on it available in English, so your review can be groundbreaking in introducing them more outside of Japan (where they continue to receive lots of praise since their release in 2018).

    Nice review. My first time I tried it with, I was so impressed by the extreme dark background with every detail being presented with incredible clarity and separation.
    I normally listen to OST and Chinese POP and I totally enjoy them
    I used Questyle QPM which has quite warm music presentation though, maybe it help with the treble you mentioned

    So, you have a very good sounding IEM, but the comfort for long listening hours or small ears is missing. Rai Pentra, W80 and few others are very very comfortable. If it sounds good but not comfortable then is a no go for me. Maybe Dunu Luna has fixed this.

  • @bigmclargehuge1170
    @bigmclargehuge1170 4 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    It doesn't make sense to say that IEMs can't have soundstage. Yeah, you use your pinnae to locate high frequency sounds, but that's not relevant to any headphone if you think about it. You're listening to a speaker pushing a recorded waveform into your ear. If you got the speakers far enough away that you could locate them in a room, they're not headphones anymore, are they? Soundstage is all about tuning and psychoacoustics.

    • @Xzvsc
      @Xzvsc 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Agree. Most of v shape audio with deep bass and extended treble will have big soundstage. On the other thing (guitar tone shaping), guitarist make the eq of the amp with more bass and treble , but turn down a lil bit on the mid , so the sound/tone will have like a "bigger soundstage" or space. Sorry for my bad English
      Btw, my cheap kz zs6 ( super v shaped tone, super high treble) far more soundstage than my ath r70x openback (the tone is kinda balance to warm with a lil bit recessed treble)

    • @bigmclargehuge1170
      @bigmclargehuge1170 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Xzvsc Your english is fine! I agree, there are definitely plenty of IEMs that will out-soundstage a lot of headphones. I love my old Sennheiser HD580s, but my ikko OH10s give a way wider presentation. It's all illusory, the brain is a weird thing!

    The A8000 work amazing with my Chord Hugo 2. Voices sound best from it. Bass is nice. Oddly they are not more fatiguing in the treble from the Hugo 2.
    Good synergy.
    My EJ07 has a much better balance of impact bass to subbass. The bass never rumbles in the EJ07 like the A8000 doss, and yet somehow the EJ07 is more satisfying for EDM.
    . Both have good voices, but the A8000 is a step forward as is the Japanese jpop preference.
    Also not as harsh treble in the EJ07. Also there is a sense of air in the Soundstage that is nice.

    Hello
    thank you for your presentations of helmets to help us in our choices.
    however, can you explain the expressions used by audiophiles to describe headphones such as:
    - brilliant
    - dark
    - quick
    - imagery
    - dynamic
    - resolution
    - transparent
    - detailed
    - sound scene
    - depth
    can you make a video to explain these terms or partially answer?

    • @Currawong
      @Currawong  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There's probably some variation between how people use these terms, but basically:
      - Bright = strong treble and/or less bass.
      - Dark = less treble and/or more bass.
      - Quick = How notes "snap", especially something like drum hits.
      - Imaging = How well you can make out the space the performers are playing in (assuming a good-quality recording where this can be heard). Can you make out individual instruments clearly or are they blurred into the rest of the music?
      - Dynamics = Do the headphones/IEMs present the big differences in sounds in the music clearly? Will a sudden drum hit stand out clearly or just be muted.
      - Resolution = How well can you here the subtleties, from the harmonics of guitar and piano notes, to the detail of the sound echoing off the walls/venue?
      - Transparent = A vague term suggesting how well the music comes through as it is without being distorted by the headphones/IEMs.
      - Detailed = Resolution
      - Soundstage = An aspect of imaging. How well does the "soundstage" where the performers are playing come through clearly? Do the headphones/IEMs present it as it is, or does it sound artificially wide, or too narrow?
      - Depth = An aspect of imaging and soundstage. Can you hear clearly how far away instruments are from the microphones and each other?
