Everybody hating on this guy, saying he's dumb for deleting the EGR. This really is one of my favorite mods for the 22RE 's. Cleans up the engine bay, easier to work on and runs exactly the same. I first did this on my 22RTE when I built the motor just for a cleaner look. Than after breaking the motor in I fell in love with it, Toyota says check and adjust valves hot, so much easier without all the bs on top the valve cover
If everyone did this we’d go back to the days where we had to stay in class because there was a brown haze and some of my classmates couldn’t breath because of the asthma they were born with. Way to go !!
Loved the video...thank you for doing this. I have severe hearing loss so I enjoyed listening to you as you were very clear, concise, and precise on your presentation. Thanks again. 22re cult lover here on my 1986 4runner.
In the 1990’s TRD sold a whitepaper on tuning. I think i paid about $15 for it. It showed how to disable the EGR using a BB to block the vac line. It costs nothing and can be reversed in about 5 seconds if you need to pass smog.
Removing the EGR cooler is no joke. Spent a small fortune buying specialized tools. In retro, would have been better to take it to a mech and see if the mech will remove - clean the darn thing Myself, and have mech put it back together- to save $/time. Good vid, brother.
Absolute SICK video brother!!! Wish I had seen this earlier. I've been spending money on Ebay buying all the EGR parts to put back to original. On my '90 4Runner as well. Hahaha. Great information man, thanks for sharing!
Bin looking for a vid explaining the the three prong vac switch at the rear of the plenum to the canister. So far ur the only one that's done so. Basically delete any vacs i.e. hoses, switches, etc... that was connected to the EGR. Nice job!
Can you please discuss the OHM resistor for the EGR to turn off the check engine light? Does it need to be installed on all three clips and how to install?
Great video, just deleted mine. Just so you know, the small tube running parallel with the intake. From the "coconut" to the filter is removable, just pops off the intake pipe, instead of capping both ends.
In the proicess of replacing my head gasket and am blown away at how clogged and filthy the egr valve is and all the componets to it. All that nasty grime goes into the throttle body at some point. I would guess the motor would have to run a bit better? Did you have any issues with how it ran after that? Thx for the vid.
Great video mate i just bought a old hilux originally had a carburetor 22re im currently swapping in a 22re efi model im trying to work out where one of the fuel line's go. It's at the end of the fuel rail it's short and it should have a banjo bolt at the end but my just came dangling

1:24 you can remove the small plastic tube in the middle that was connected to the air box. It's one less thing too cap off and isn't utilized any more.
Hey man huge Thanks for the 22re videos. I need to know what wires get unplugged when deleting . I just put a new motor in and have my harness hanging out. just need to know which ones don't get plugged back up.
Hey nuttynu i just did egr and air delete and did block of plate to back of 22re engine head started it and motor had high rpm 2500 and motor was way hot so shut it down was wondering if you blocked back of your head or is it still stock?
Good job on the delete. Im going to do this next. Colorado is 50/50 on the smog. Did you notice any difference in performance at all? I feel like it ran better when i temporarily added the 10k resistor to the egr temperature plug.
Hey I a 1994 22re I just got done doing this followed your video. But now when I start the truck the rpm go up and down??? Also under the thermostat on your truck is there another vacuum line of some sort there is on mine.
The problem with the surging idle is the ¼” jumper vacuum line that was connected to bypass the power steering idle up. Under normal operation, the vacuum valve on the power steering pump will open when it senses steering input. This allows air from in front of the throttle butterfly to go directly into the intake which raises the rpm the same as if you were to open the throttle slightly. By removing the power steering valve from the equation (and hooking the line directly from one side of the throttle body to the other) the engine starts to rev up, but the ecu is confused because the throttle isn’t opening, so it lowers the engine speed back down to fix the lean condition, and then cycle repeats. To fix, simply cap the connections for the power steering idle up rather than connecting them together.
Kids! Up in Alaska air temp is pretty cold so cylinder temperature is pretty cool, I also notice you don't have AC, that compressor and bracket is also bolted down there too also making it difficult to get to the oil filter and that coconut is there incase the engine backfires thru the intake and that pressure has some place to go so removing it is not a good idea, also down here in the U.S. we have hot weather so we have AC and hotter cylinder temperatures, that EGR valve keeps cylinder temperatures down so we don't get Pinging or Detonation otherwise I would have to retard the timing to get rid of it now I have taken the power out of the engine, so down here removing the EGR valve is also not a good idea. And by the way I used to work at a Toyota dealer.
@@dankoldenhoven4997 absolutly, exhaust gases are cooler than cylinder temperatures, that's what EGR stands for, Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve, on older cars equipted with this valve will ping or detonate real bad when disconnected so unless you want to use more exspensive higher octane fuel leave it connected.

Does this effect the tps. Just put a new 22re in my 1993. I did this delete before the old motor was pulled out. The mechanics shop put everything back together only to find out that the truck runs when the tps is unplugged but fuel sucks bad. He told me because I did the delete I have to get a tps that isn’t for California emmisions. When tps is plugged in it gives a hesitation at 2000 rpm in 1st 2nd and 3rd gear. Help. I hope I explained this good enough
@@NuttyNu thank you... I ordered egr and air pump delete brackets... Is the 88+ upper manifold plenum a direct swap into an 87? Is the 88+ tbrottle body bigger as well? Thank you for your reply....already subbed
You really just capped both ends of an unused P.A.I.R. injection tube? You can remove that smaller tube from your intake and throw it in the garbage and save the caps.
EGR is not useless. Without EGR your motor will ping, then the knock sensor will retard timing to reduce the detonation and you loose power. If you don't modify the fuel map and ignition curve when you remove EGR, then you're likely reducing the lifespan of your motor and reducing power output. Don't do this as a stand alone mod.
