- So today is the day a lot of you have been waiting for, more myself, Tina my 1994 Toyota pickup gets tuned. For those who don't know she has a built 22re turbocharged on E-85 fuel. I run a 500hp 22r turbo in my 73 Toyota carina.. runs 10.60's..that was 15 years ago it still is sitting my driveway today. Nice build

@@2gioz in a word.. its violent. Was a 93 stock block lc stage 2 head with street cam sidedrafts and 250 shot fogger .. ran 12's. After burning a hole in #4 piston for the rebuild went to 81/2 to 1 je pistons used the stock crank and stock rods but they were shotpeened and magnaflux ..basically lc stage 5 head fully built.. custom turbo cam ..arp head studs hks head gasket.. custom equal length tubular manifold with external hks race gate Garrett t68 around 22psi rc 96lbs injectors on pump gas. Sds system for management. Runs 11lb clutch flywheel set up so basically on/off lol

@@madmod that was stock block over 200k miles with just a street cam (stage 2 lc) sidedrafts and a 250 shot fogger ..car is light though compared to a pick up.. pick is almost double the weight so..

Saying those numbers are impressive is an understatement. Thanks for putting the effort in building a savage 22re. Im on my 3rd now and would be over satisfied making a little over half that with my LCE goods. Killer build man!

22re is the one of the best engines ever made. and the toyota pickup is one of the best trucks ever made. Can't go wrong with this truck.

One of the toughest engines ever made, but I will ALWAYS love the Nissan SR-20DET as my favorite engine of all time:P I am not saying its better, just my personal favorite. My dream truck is a Toyota with tuned Nissan SR-20DET. My 2nd dream truck is a 1996 or older Ford 4x4 with a tuned 12v or 24v Cummins.

This is one of the nicest hilux's I've seen ( I'm in Australia that what we know them as hear) I've got a similar make to yours but it's a space cab love what you have done with the 22re.......I found your video looking for info anything 22r 22re

That video just opened my hope again lol I have an 83 that im planning to boost im building it for drifting everywhere i go I see people saying that anything more than 150 on any 22r/e engines is outlandish thank you aton for this video it gave me hella hope and motivation

Did you need forged pistons? I already bought some h bean rods and im going to send in everything to get balanced like the harmonic pulley rods pistons crank and flywheel and clutch

@@2gioz Hmmm. That would give it a little more of a WRX flavor... Got that Subaru blue already nicely done. Very cool truck man!! But if it were me, I would keep it as is and throw on some 32x11.5" mud tires to go offroad, baja style!

Awesome build! My dad has a 91 just sitting around and is too old to drive anymore. We dropped in a new 0 miles motor in like 6yrs ago but no one really drove it afterwards. Gona start making the interior more likeable like new seats, carpet, sound deadening, and power windows bc it was basically a work truck.
bro if you find seats that fit nice without pushing the driving position forward, come back and @ me in this comment. im thinking about trying a miata seats or maybe some mini cooper seats idk. its hard to tell what will fit.

I have a 1994 standard cab Toyota four-wheel-drive that I’m doing a lot of mods to currently and I’m wanting to add a turbo system next I was hoping you could tell me where you got your turbo manifold from and also how to run the plumbing for the intercooler. Look forward to hearing back from you and thank you very much
The turbo manifold I got with an engine but it was custom made. As for Inter cooler piping I cut a hole on the driver side of the engine bay to run the pipe through and the passenger side I just ran it up between the radiator and engine. I hope this helps and good luck with the build 🤘

Stand-alone or piggy back tuner? I’m running splitsecond pro on my 5vze but the factory ignition timing is too unpredictable. Have MS3pro semi wired up but haven’t had the time to fix the idle air control circuit or install a new bung for the wideband.

I just installed a megasquirt in my 22re using the factory "VAST" 4 tooth trigger wheel. Timing accuracy is crap; it jumps around +/- 3 degrees at steady engine speeds and retards up to 7 degrees when revving. I would not use it on a pump gas turbo motor. I am going to run low boost on E85 until I can upgrade trigger setup. If you go standalone, get a 36-1 crank trigger wheel.

Nice! I have an 86 turbo 4runner with a non turbo 22re swap I'm learning about stand alone ecu's and bought a speeduino plug and play for a Miata na6 turbo project. Can't wait to get a turbo for the 4runner.

which programmable ecu would be better for daily use they told me about the ems 4 aem but I don't really know
I have Microtech LT10, the only issue I have is it’s fixed timing. For a daily I recommend a variable timing setup and I heard a lot about the fuel tech ft450. That is the system I want on my truck. I hope this helps!
The 22re didn't like to keep the headgasket in stock form making 110hp. Good luck. What diff gearing are you running?
I had to change to a aftermarket head gasket, and currently stock 410 but would like a 373 🤔
@@2gioz You can find older (81) 4x4's or 2wd pickups/4runners with 390 gears. Check the junkyards for axle code G072 or G074 in the door jamb.

Sad that no one tunes the 2L TE but everyone tunes the 22RE
4Runner Edits it was very hard to find a tuner for the 22re, not many people in my area know how to tune them right.

@@festivekamikaze True, but the diesels are far more basic to squeeze power from. Its not common to see 2lt builds in the states because they are rare here. Look in forums from Australia. They are abundant. Give it fuel and air. Upgrade your after cooling (intercooling) and do fuel mods. You already have the turbo diesel so you are one step ahead from most others.
@@festivekamikaze I misread your comment and thought 2lt when you posted 2l. I'd suggest exhaust and intake mods. Boost really does magic on small diesels, but NA pretty much limits it to the basics. You should still be able to uncork the restrictions

Was this 22re a turbo from the manufacturer? Or was it an n/a? I have an n/a 22re and i want more power, i was either looking to add a turbo or swap an engine. Whats best?
It was an NA from factory and the turbo got added to it, honestly I couldn’t tell you which way is better because I’ve never messed with a 22ret before. And honestly if you want just a little more power, I would just buy a cheap eBay kit, that’s what was ran on this truck from the very start and it lasted !

I got the manifold off a motor I got awhile back, its custom, all the work I got help from a good friend.

It's an SR5 EFI. I looked for one for 6 years til i found it. 165000 original miles. It was originally sold in Inverness Florida- 30 minutes north of me. It's loaded,power everything, cruise, a/c everything still runs like new except the engine is a little tired. Removable top, factory roll cage, all the good stuff. I had it Professionally lifted, Re-arc toyota springs, TRD drop pitman arm and suspension.
On paper it's probably not worth a lot, but priceless to me. ( Everything is for sale of course, but the $$ would be pretty high lol) I have spent 4times what it's worth on it, so no turning back now.
I've been debating a 2jz transplant. Keeping the original 22re , adding a turbo & intercooler is preffered. But I don't know any shops local that do this sort of thing. Do you? I'm in Brooksville FL.

Honestly there isn’t any videos out there, no one really does what I did to my truck. I have been thinking of finding another pickup and starting over now that I know what not to do lol

I got a boosted 2rz tacoma 310hp at 14psi on bone stock internals tuned on a link stand alone and yes the tune is what makes it very reliable.mimes is just as reliable as my NA 2rz👍🏾

Honestly I have not launched it in 4x4 but the torque is ridiculous lol, on the dyno it was 950+ torque on 4L !

On which dash? You’re talking about the microtech 4 lights or the single light on the right side, that single light is for my alarm.
