Grandma came to the US from Canada and she made a "relish" with cranberries to eat with our turkey. She'd get out her meat grinder and clamp it to the counter and put everything through it. Cranberries, oranges, and walnuts. She'd sugar it and let it sit overnight in the fridge. Next day, if it wasn't sweet enough she'd add more sugar and if she felt really fancy she'd throw in a box of cherry Jello :)
Mom made the exact salad we ate it as dessert too. Dad wrote on moms recipe card "Best darn thing I ever ate". I treasure her recipe book now. We renamed the recipe to Dad's quote. Thanks for sharing.
I have made this for years. However, to this same mix, I add 4 pealed and finely chopped apples, 8 peeled and sectioned clementines and the zest from 2 clementines. Coconut sounds like a wonderful addition!
Miss Lori here's my recipe for Cranberry Jello Salad it is so good been making it for years, my husband just loves it. Makes 2 batches. 1 Lg box cherry jello 3-1/2 cups of water 1 Lg can crushed pineapple - drained- reserve 1 can mandarin oranges- drained 1 bag of cranberries 1 navel orange 1-1/2 cup of sugar Grind up cranberries & navel orange together, stir in the sugar, refrigerate over night. Makes 3 cups. Drain pineapple juice, about a 1/2 cup, boil with the water & mix with jello. Take 1-1/2 cups of overnight mixture and freeze for next time. Take the 1-1/2 of the rest of the mixture and mix with the jello, crushed pineapple, mandarin oranges. Stir, put into a jello mold.
Mrs. Lori that looks sooo good. I love the holidays! My dear Mom and I used to make a cranberry salad that has some of the same ingredients but it'-s not creamy, more like a relish I guess.. We had a meat grinder that you turn by hand and we would put in cranberries, oranges (peels and all), celery, pecans, pineapple, and sugar. And then make 3 boxes jello, usually black cherry, raspberry and strawberry following box directions.(It made a beautiful dark red color). Then mix the ground up fruit in after letting the jello sit in fridge for alittle while just to chill so the fruit floated. We'd put it in containers and chilled it overnight. We made it for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. It made alot so we gave some away. Great with turkey or ham dinner and sandwiches! We ate it on ice cream and I loved it on toast or muffins in the morning! Really refreshing! It stayed good a couple weeks in the fridge. Always made the house smell so good! Just thought I'd share. I haven't made it since Mom passed. I may just get out that old meat grinder this year! Thanks for sharing your wonderful recipe and for making me tear up thinking of wonderful memories!! Hugs and blessings to you and your family!!
@Cathy Burns, I make this same salad and it quickly became a "Cathy will bring the cranberry salad" as we signed up to bring items for the family holiday gatherings! It is so very good!!
Looks so good. I make a molded cranberry salad with apples, oranges and cranberries ground together with sugar. It sits in my fridge overnight. I mix 3 large orange jello s together and add drained crushed pineapple, nuts, and cranberry mixture together. Put in dishes to take to family gatherings. Everyone wants to take some home with them.😊
Growing up, my Momma made this every holiday. Her version was a tiny bit different (walnuts instead of pecans, a little less sugar with the cranberries, she crushed her pineapple etc) but that same pretty pink fluffy salad. I have never met or heard of any other family having this kind of cranberry salad. Its one of my favorite parts of holiday meals. Thank you for sharing, it's nice to see another cranberry salad fan.
I made this salad for my Thanksgiving meal, and it was delicious! My husband thought so too. I think what makes it, is the nuts! Thank you for such a good recipe. This is a keeper!
I was just missing my grandmother and started searching for cranberry salad. Hers was very similar, but with apples chopped fine instead of pineapple. Half the marshmallows would also be left in overnight with the cranberries and sugar to get the extra soft and good. She would NEVER use a food processor though. Her cranberries had to be pushed through an 80 year old meat grinder. It was the only way to get it just right.
My grandmum made hers using honey instead of sugar, lemon zest & the rest of the ingredients, except she used crushed walnuts instead of pecans, was the same. The honey gives the cranberry salad the most amazing flavor.
Miss Lori my mother-in-law made a cranberry salad almost just like that, the only difference is that she would make strawberry jello that she would use her mixer and beat it some to make it small pieces and she would add it to the rest of the salad. My boys really love this salad as well.
Ny mother makes this salad, but adds the mini marshmellows the night before in with the sugar and cranberrys...also the next day instead of whipping cream there is in the freezer section RICH WHIP...IT IS FROZEN IN A CARTON...NOT RICH WHIP CREAM FOR COFFEE...THIS DOESNT MAKE THE SALAD WEEP, AND WILL LAST LONGER.....ALSO SHE ADDS RED GRAPES CUT IN HALF...LOVE THIS SALAD
I made 2 of your strawberry pies the other day. It was the first time I had ever made one from scratch. I sent one to work with my hubby, he said his co-workers fought over it! They were delicious! Thank you for sharing.
I’m originally from Southern NJ and not far from the pine barrens and all the cranberry bogs there. A friends father was a cranberry farmer! She used to make a warm hotdog sauce using cranberries. She called it “bog sauce”…. We have lost touch and I cannot find anything on it. Will be making this for 2022’s thanksgiving! I appreciate you! Thank you!
A dreamsicle salad sounds heavenly! I would love to see a video on that. I like the cranberry salad also. Now I have away of using the bag of cranberries I have on hand!

Yes we love dreamscicle! Our family favorite is Caramel Apple Salad and there is many variations of this...even on including crumbled snicker bars. Our favorite way of fixing it...cut up couple cups granny smith apples. Mix together cool whip and dry butterscotch pudding mix...add crushed pineapple to that. Fold apples in and mix in some crushed peanuts. We use pecans...either way is good. The kids love this and so do adults! We are lucky when we can get a bit for ourselves! Lol. Andy Stoner ...just a friendly comment...please consider real whipping cream, there's no food value in cool whip...the chemical ingredients would make your toes curl up! 🦃

Ms. Lori, My mother used to make something like this and freeze it and put it in a light;y buttered 13x9 dish. Then the next day she cut it in squares and served it with the meal. Thawed just enough to eat with our turkey.
This is similar to what my mother made at Christmas time, except for no cranberries. I might suggest a slight modification. Mother would use crushed pineapple and she would pour the pineapple with the juice over the marshmallows and let that sit for a while to soften the marshmallows. You might try that and see how you like it.
Looks yummy, with cranberries really available now I 'll have to try this for Christmas since I just now finished my traditional cranberry and orange salad for our Thanksgiving. I enjoy your recipes and you outlook on life. As a retired teacher I reallly appreciate your efforts!
We always called that Aunt Joanie's cranberry fluff, because she always brought it to our family gatherings when we were growing up. Love your videos. Thanks
I'm late to see this but I just had to comment, even though I'm 3 years behind. Thank you for putting this up! When I was a little I have fond memories of helping my mom make her cranberry salad for the holidays. She would bring out her antique grinder and clamp it to the table. It was my job to crank it. To this day I can hear my mamas voice on the danger of the grinder. So here I would be grinding away as she added the ingredients. The Mars mellows went in first, yup we ground those. Then the cranberries. Last, but not least the apples, instead of pineapple. She always said the apples help get the sticky off the blades so grind them last. For the life of me I couldn't remember the last ingredient until I saw your video. It was the whipped cream. That has been many years and my mama is gone, I turn 60 in Jan. Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this!!
I just watched this video and now don't want to wait for cranberry season. I love cranberry, anything, and am really looking forward to making this in 6 months. Thank you
This makes me want Christmas to hurry up and get here, but who says we have to wait? I think I'll do this for Mother's Day! YUMMMMMM! It reminds me of my congealed cranberry salad that I make every Thanksgiving and Christmas, but this is SO much easier and seems more fitting for the warmer weather, even though the other one is cold too. That one was first served to me at a lovely little tea room where I used to meet a good friend for lunch. They brought you a dollop of cranberry congealed salad and a cranberry muffin while you waited for your order. Sure miss The Vickery House in Folkston, GA....good old days!
I have kind of the same recipe accept you add the pineapple with ground up cranberries with the sugar. Chill over night. Then with the whipped cream and 8 oz. of cream cheese broken up in pieces with the marshmallows and chill over night. Next day whip together whip cream mixture and sdd to the cranberries. Stir well. A good salad
I love cranberries, you can only find them in southwest arkansas once a year between halloween and early december usually and I freeze several bags. I love anything with cranberry.
Whipping cream is high in fat so a cold bowl and beaters help it whip Faster by solidifying the fat. It is similar to pouring a stick of melted butter into an ice-cold bowl and the butter would not stay melted for long. Same principle. Just an FYI :-)
When I read the title, I was intrigued, was it the same as mine. Yes...except for the nuts, no coconuts either. Mine uses, drained crushed pineapples. Everyone loves it. It starts to break down, in about two days. But we rarely have any left by then!
my mom also used to make this salad called "5 cup salad" it had mandarine oranges/pineapple/cherries//marsh mellow/shredded coconut . I really do miss my mother God rest her soul she was an awesome mom. She died in 2010 she had congested heart failure she was 60 years old.
I've never seen cranberries done this way I'm going to try it it looks really good and since I'm a big fan of cranberries anyway I can get them I love them
I make this with one cup of sugar in the cranberries.... but when you get it mixed up with the marshmallows, let it set overnight before you eat it because the marshmallows will disappear in there a little bit and really sweeten the salad.
My Mom always made this salad, and just before serving, she'd add those Chinese noodles( the crunchy ones) and stir in, sometimes she's substitute broken up pretzels, it was so yummy
Yes, make a video on the dreamsicle recipe. That cranberry salad looks delicious. I'm the only one in my house that like cranberries so I usually just get a small can to have for myself. I might splurge this year and go for it and not tell them whats in it. lol I've done that before and it worked. I hope you have a blessed Thanksgiving Day with your family. Safe travels to you if you go out and God Bless you two.
I was prepared not to like cranberry anything BUT I know how good your food is so I watched! When you ground up those cranberries and sugared them, I knew this was a winner! So glad I watched! Making this tomorrow!! Love the intro with photos! Waiting for next vlog!
We made one with drained can fruit and mandarin oranges growing up.. You can also add pecan and marshmallow in it too. We love it growing up.. Me and mine twin sister still make it every holiday.. Thought you might like to try it also hun.. Cus you can use sugar free fruit and sugar free cool whip for people watching there sugar hun.. Have a blessed day hun..
It's very near a recipe I did as a teenager. Everything the same except swap out the cranberries for halved grapes, coconut, and add rice. You can't freeze or refrigerate my old recipe though. think I'll try this one and resurrect my old recipe. Thanks for the inspiration.

Happy Thanksgiving
God Bless!
That looks so good. My husband and I are the only ones that eat anything cranberry. Happy Thanksgiving to the Brown Family!
I make this with one cup of sugar in the cranberries.... but when you get it mixed up with the marshmallows, let it set overnight before you eat it because the marshmallows will disappear in there a little bit and really sweeten the salad.
Lori, this looks so good, Thank you for sharing. Many blessings to you and Mr. Brown
Looks wonderful and I bet it taste fabulous! I would love the Dreamsicle video, too! Thank you Lori for such great videos!
My Mom always made this salad, and just before serving, she'd add those Chinese noodles( the crunchy ones) and stir in, sometimes she's substitute broken up pretzels, it was so yummy
Oh wow! I like crunchy! Xoxoxo
Our family favorite is green jello salad. I will forward recipe soon. Great for people who can’t have alot of sugar.
Happy Thanksgiving!
This is no salad, this is a dessert. It looks great

Salad is just a mixture of stuff. That's salad yumm
I would love to see your new recipe
I grew up with this recipe in Iowa. My dad made this all the time. His mom is where we got the recipe. I made it for Thanksgiving and used walnuts. ❤
I was prepared not to like cranberry anything BUT I know how good your food is so I watched! When you ground up those cranberries and sugared them, I knew this was a winner! So glad I watched! Making this tomorrow!! Love the intro with photos! Waiting for next vlog!
Yummy that and cornbread dressing is the best of the holidays
Anything you make looks good. I love cranberries.
I make this but I add apples, bananas, celery and use English walnuts. Yum yum

Thought you might like to try it also hun.. Cus you can use sugar free fruit and sugar free cool whip for people watching there sugar hun..
Have a blessed day hun..
I make a similar one using oranges. I think I'll try this one this year. Thank you Lori and Merry Christmas!
My mom use to make this but used crushed pineapple and no nuts. Delicious!
Hi and Happy Thanksgiving! I made this today but half the version and not many marshmallows either. It's delicious! Thank you!
It's very near a recipe I did as a teenager. Everything the same except swap out the cranberries for halved grapes, coconut, and add rice. You can't freeze or refrigerate my old recipe though. think I'll try this one and resurrect my old recipe. Thanks for the inspiration.
