My son kiddingly tells my cousin's wife that she cannot come to the family reunion if she does not bring that green stuff. He is referring to the pistachio salad you just made. She even brings a smaller bowl to be sure he gets some because he is always grilling and barbequing. LOL Thank you for such a lovely trip down memory lane. I am 84 so I was pretty much there when the first salads were made.🤩
The jelly salad I remember was either lemon or lime jello with finely chopped cabbage, onion(green, white or yellow) radish, and celery. It was poured into a tupperware mold, then turned out onto a plate for serving. I also remember tomato aspic being talked about. I never made it but I remember that it was supposed to be difficult to make. Another memory lane recipe is homemade salad dressing. Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Would you try making tomato aspic or some home made salad dressings? Like ranch and Italian and thousand island? My mom never made anything with the lime jello. None of us liked that flavor. She made an orange jello salad with grated carrots & crushed pineapple. She served it with Miracle Whip salad dressing to put on top. She also, made an Apricot salad every Christmas, with crushed pineapple, nuts, & maraschino cherries in it. Sooo good. Unfortunately, Jello discontinued the Apricot flavor. I did find that Walmarts Peach flavor works well in place of it, though.

I’m in my 70’s and yes the Jello Salads were amazing and a treat we all looked forward to. I don’t have all the recipes so thank you for giving some of them back. There are two jello recipes I don’t have one was a raspberry a creamy somewhat sweet but tart jello. The other was a lemon jello. It had walnuts, mandarin oranges, bananas that may be actually the whole recipe? Which I think now that it is. But I would love to know how she made the raspberry jello salad. It is something I grew up with but my nieces and nephews also because it was grandma who made it for them. The same thing can be said for many families. If they didn't make it themselves at home with their moms then they probably are not making it for their kids. Thanks for watching!
My family liked the Sunshine salad that I mixed with orange Jello, grated carrots and crushed pineapple. Refreshing in the summer. I still made it after they left. Grandma and my mother also made it. We had a green Jello salad and usually a cranberry Jello salad at Christmas.
I have enjoyed the first one often. I’m 75 years old and we used to enjoy it at a weekly Bible study that had a pot luck following it. Sadly our church numbers fell with illnesses and never got back to out numbers. We no longer have a pot luck following our weekly Bible study. God is good. Bless you and your family. yes old fashioned stuff brings good memories, mollasses or ginger cookies anyone? just a reminder fresh pineapple will never set in a jello not sur ewhy but trial and error as per my Mom instructions
Hello Nanci, It does bring back memories for sure. Fresh pineapple contains an enzyme that cases the jello molecules to separate from each other which is the reason you can't use it. Once its been processed its easy to use in all your recipes.

I had to promise to make a batch just for him. Yum!
Our family favorite is 7UP salad. Yum
Since I live in Georgia, we would be adding some chopped pecans to this orange salad .New subscriber.
Hi Colleen, I just had to tell you the potato bacon soup is fabulous. Made it yesterday. And is even better the next day. Thank you.
Hi Katie, Thank you for sharing that with me and you are right its just as good the second day as the first. Thanks for continuing to follow the channel. Best wishes, Colleen
Texas. I grew up with jello salad.👍🏻😋
@@cathylocklin3215 🥰
Love all these but my family's favorite is Raspberry Carousel which we found in a Jello Salad cookbook.
Thanks for bringing back these favorite salads.
I remember all of those salads. I think I’ll make the dream cycle salad for Christmas!
@@beccaistas6469 I think I will also! 🥰
@, it will be just my husband and myself and that’s ok. I set the table and put a picture of my mom and dad and his mom and dad on the table. We will be surrounded by love! Have a merry Christmas Colleen 🎄🇨🇦
Always loved the orange jello/ jelly. The middle one was ok for me. Would like to try your last one. My Mom and I each have the big cookbook of "The Joys of Jello" and we used to watch on Sundays the commercials from "Kraft" and MOM would receive the recipes in the mail.Wish I had some of those. Had some Good and Great Low ingredient Appetize's besides all around meals! Hope your Thanks giving was great and Have a Very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
I make the Watergate (pistachio) Salad every Thanksgiving. I taught my granddaughter how to make it last year so she'll be doing it every year. 🙂
The lime cottage cheese one never realized it had green onion in it, have to give that one a try at Thanksgiving this year. I'm for sure gonna do the pistachios one for sure. We're a miracle whip people also.🙂
Hi Susan, I'm sure it would be delicious without the green onions to but it does add a little something to it. Miracle Whip 💕
Yes!! A jello salad was always a special meal. I still make them. .
@sunnycadwallader2873 I admit to loving them and making them for special occasions and everybody in the family loves them as well.
Going to try these, they look delicious
Hello Laurie, thank you for following along and I hope you give these try because these recipes have been family favorites for years and I think they could be your favourites too. Merry Christmas! Colleen
Great job!! I'm making the mandarin salad for Thanksgiving!!
Isn't it fascinating how pineapple works so perfectly with so many jello recipes?!?
And mandarin orange!
Like, there's not many recipes that call for either, but jello is just perfect with them!
These are great vids!
I've been experimenting and have some fun new concoctions
Love ur recipes and I’m an older lady too.
Love All these!! Many thanks!!
Love these salads
Can you share about FALL ( or is it FOUL) suppers? How they were organized etc.
Thank you for sharing ❤
Back in the day, we always put our Jell-O salads in our prettiest bowl
Yes we did!!
thank you. sound very tasty! ❤👍🙏🌹
I remember all of these salads. We made the one with cottage cheese with orange jello and mandarin oranges.
lol 'My 1 of 2' Love your humbleness ... as hopefully is mine.
Love the recipes....... my over sensitive quirk went into overdrive with the metal mixing spoon..... So I watched in two parts....to fun to miss it because of my issues!
A bit of a flashback to younger days!! Thank You Colleen ❤
Your welcome Bev, its great to see you back here. ❤
OMG this looks phenomenal!!!!
Thank you, we enjoy them for family holidays. Cheers, Colleen
Yummy
@@ayakashioni1336 i think so too!

I’m no spring chicken either Colleen 80 , I can’t believe how time flies 😊❤
I thinkthis may be called Millionaires Salad. It is 1 can of cherry pie filling, 1 can pineapple chunks or tidbits, 1/2 cup pecans, and 1 container of Coolwhip. It's good.
That’s my kind of dessert!!!!👍🏻
Hi colleen.I am Nancy and I am from Illinois.

Yes. Christmas. Kids birthdays parties…
Nice, it seems that the love of Jellies salads still exists.
Took me a moment to remember what we call the pistachio ones well close to it Watergate Salad.. mmmmmmm
I've never heard it called that before but that's interesting 🤔 thanks for sharing that. Cheers, Colleen
@@oursilvermoments6028 you are welcome. Yeah not a lot of folks down in the USA remember it by that name either. Either way it is delicious no matter the name.
You help me to know how to fix the pistachio salad I have fix my friend like how I do it I like your way can’t wait to fix it
Excellent. Thanks for watching! Colleen
Our family has made this salad we call Newhart salad. It has a box of lemon jello too + chopped walnuts & crushed pineapple. If U chill your jellos first then put in the cheese it won't float. Happy Holidays.
I can’t believe someone would complain about the sound of you mixing in a bowl. I am 84 and mix very much like you do.
I have discovered that there is a very small segment of people who enjoy complaining. I am learning to grow a thicker skin as a result. Thanks for watching!
yes old fashioned stuff brings good memories, mollasses or ginger cookies anyone? just a reminder fresh pineapple will never set in a jello not sur ewhy but trial and error as per my Mom instructions
Hello Nanci, It does bring back memories for sure. Fresh pineapple contains an enzyme that cases the jello molecules to separate from each other which is the reason you can't use it. Once its been processed its easy to use in all your recipes.
I make pistachio salad but it's different it's got crushed pineapple juice and all cottage cheese and a little sour cream pistachio and Cool whip it's good
@lindaragan3992 There are certainly different recipes and it's great to hear the varieties that people make. Thanks for sharing that.
We make the pistachio salad (without the banana) all the time
Yes my mom put shredded carrots and cabbage in lime jello
@@robinfarmer4787 i have never added cabbage but have certainly used grated carrots.
We don't have cool whip in New Zealand do we just use cream
