- Holiday Cranberry Sauce
1 cup granulated sugar (plus 1/4 cup more possibly)
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup orange juice
zest of one orange
12 ounces fresh or frozen cranberries, rinsed
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
Using a large sauce pan, combine both sugars, the water, juice, and orange zest. Whisk until sugars are mostly dissolved. Add the cranberries. Place over medium heat and bring to a soft boil. Watch the pan carefully so that it does not boil over. You may want to cover the pan with a splash screen, to minimize the splattering.
Once the mixture is at a soft boil, reduce the heat to low and continue to simmer for approximately 20 minutes until the sauce has slightly thickened. (It will continue to thicken quite a bit as it cools in the refrigerator.) When the sauce is at your desired thickness, remove from the heat and stir in the cinnamon. Taste to see if the sauce is sweet enough. If it needs more sweetness, stir in another 1/4 cup of white sugar and stir until it is dissolved. It will dissolve quickly because of the hot sauce.
Pour the cranberry sauce into a bowl and allow to come to room temperature before covering and refrigerating.
NOTE - You can make your cranberry sauce well ahead of your holiday meal. This will keep in the refrigerator for several days.

Thanks for keeping good food alive and well! My grandma, who never used a measuring spoon, said just before she died at 88, "People today don't know what good food really is." A good friend of my parents who is now 90 told how the women would make dinner at the church for funerals and it got to the point that the younger women couldn't cook or had no idea how to bake a pie!! Not only do you give us great food, you are a GREAT instructor!!
Thanks so much for watching and sharing so much encouragement! We really do appreciate it!
I like your cranberry sauce recipe so much better than my cranberry relish recipe. Mine involved putting the cranberries and the oranges through a grinder which meant that you had to first work very hard at removing all of the white part of the orange. Mine didn't involve cooking but I like the idea of doing it your way. Thank you for teaching me how to zest an orange because I didn't know how to either.
And that's what you call "Pop The Berries" 😅
So true. Tom & Melissa are so very inspiring. After working 18 years in food service in NY for a catering company, we have learned more from them in the past year than all those years. Simple, wholesome good food. Tom's way of teaching is amazing. Esoecially his stories associated to his recipes. Love it.
Joan & Dennis from NY 😊
would the cinnamon change the flavor much
My granddaughter and grandson love cranberry sauce so she is in charge of making it. She thought this years was her best so far. It was good! And this year my grandsons girlfriend came and spent with us. Shes Philippino and has never had a traditional thanksgiving dinner so my daughter let her help with the turkey. She even put the butter under the skin and all over the bird. It turned out beautiful!! She was so proud!! It was cute!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Hopes and prayers you feel better soon. I love making fresh cranberry sauce.
Best cooking show on YT❤
Thank you! You are very kind to say that. We really do appreciate that you are watching our channel.
My mother made cranberry relish for the Thanksgiving and Christmas. She has passed in 1990 and I have no idea what her recipe was but I remember fresh cranberries, whole oranges and pecans put through a grinder, plus sugar to sweeten. Oh, the wonderful taste of it! Nothing like that canned, jellied food that has no trace of the berries left.
We hope this one is close enough! Nothing is ever as good as our moms could make them.
My mother also made raw cranberry relish. Cranberries, orange maybe a lemon put thru the food grinder. As a child I didn't like it as it was too tart. For years we had the canned variety which was unusual as she was a very good cook and this could be made ahead. Now as a grandmother and great-grandmother I prefer the fresh made.
my mother discovered cranberry orange relish many years ago, and we always had to have it for Thanksgiving. It's just a bag of cranberries, 1 navel orange (peel and all), and sugar. I can't remember how much sugar right now - start with 1/2 C and add more to taste. I've also started adding a Granny smith apple to mine. Grind the fruit in a grinder, or do it in batches in a food processor - just be careful you don't grind it too fine - it should be slightly chunky. Then add the sugar, stir, and refrigerate for several hours. This keeps in the refrigerator for quite some time.
Thats how my mom made hers ,so good
I love cranberry sauce as well ,my brother -in-law always makes it soooo good.
Yummy.yummy.yummy.good.food.😊❤
Hope you are feeling better by now. Thank you for the recipe. I have never put cinnamon in mine. I think I will this year.
I have never had real cranberry sauce. This looks so delicious
Once you try homemade, you will want it homemade only
That looks delicious! I know I'd love it because cranberry orange muffins are my favorite.
Welcome back. Feel better.
I love whole berry cranberry sauce. 😊This is exactly how I make it and have made for years. Thanks for sharing this recipe with all of those cooks who have never tried making it this way. I've been making this in my kitchen since I was married in 1969. My mother and grandmother both made it this way, so I suppose you could say its an old family recipe. God bless both of you. BTW I keep a couple of bags in the freezer so I can make this sauce year round when the urge strikes.
1:16 thanksgiving isn't that without the cranberry! My mum made a cranberry relish with fresh cranberries, oranges, walnuts and sugar to taste. With her meat grinder she ground up the cranberries and entire orange. Your recipe sounds absolutely delicious!
That sounds so good with orange and walnuts!
@ozziecatsmom it is. I still make from time to time but we all know nothing seems to taste the way mum made it, right. Friend of mine couldn't believe she didn't cook the cranberries. Nope, straight from the freezer, the wash and while still a bit frozen she'd grind them up with the oranges and add the chopped walnuts. It was so good!
@@Daphne-cp8ss I might try it!
I make cranberry relish just like your every year. Learned it from my mom.
It's really easy to make too. I never saw her measure anything just used the whole bag of cranberries and the oranges depended on how big or small they were. I think you'll like it, it's a change from cranberry sauce which basically gets cooked. Ah, thanksgiving memories. ☺️
I make my own cranberry sauce in stead of an orange , I use a small can of mandarin orange and the juice plus the zest of an orange. I will be using the brown sugar and some cinnamon. Keep the ideas and recipes coming ❤🦃🥰
We sure will! Thanks for sharing your version with us as well. We love all the great cooks who watch and let us know their ideas. It's amazing how kind people are to share their knowledge with us all. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving season!
You are the only one who teaches me how to Cook but I love watching you guys videos are so amazing to
Im 54, and because you made this recipe look so easy, I made homemade cranberries for the first time! Thanks
Your recipe is great, Tom and Melissa! Thank you. I know what you mean by the Kentucky Crud. Every time I cross over that state line into TN I feel so much better! KY is one of the worst states for environmental or plant allergies.
One Christmas I unintentionally used all of my ground cinnamon in baking so I didn’t have any for the cranberry sauce. I searched the spice drawer and saw the ground ginger so I used that instead. It was a hit so that’s what I now use. It’s really yummy!! If I have a knob of fresh then I will microplane a little of it into the cooking berries.
When my dear Mother made cranberry sauce she made it like yours, but didn’t thicken it quite as much by using more fresh OJ, then at the very end, after removing it from the heat, she would add diced celery and diced pecans. Now that is very delicious!! 😊 The crunch is nice because everything else is smooth or soft to eat (turkey, gravy, dressing) so the contrast is really nice. The perfect bite with all four!😋❤️😋
Thanks for making the navigation to the Thanksgiving Foods list easy! I kind of consider myself a "Vidiot". 😏 LOVED that sinister laugh after the 1st taste. 😂
Thankyou Tom and Melissa for all these delicious treats! I made your crunchy taco salad 2 weeks ago. My daughter stopped by and couldnt get enough. Making it again tonight. ❤ Tomorrow I'm making your corn pudding to go with a big country dinner I'm making.
This sauce is great..I love it. Now I have a sauce that I can do for christmas..Thank you for this ❤❤ love your shows
Thank you, Tom and Melissa, for the homemade cranberry sauce recipe. I have never made homemade cranberry sauce. My mother would make it ahead of time and I never saw her make it. Therefore, I never attempted it. I love love loved mamma’s homemade cranberry sauce. Now that I have seen the “how to” I will have this. This will be one of my table staples this year. God bless you two for sharing these recipes and sharing out of love.
Hope you feel better soon
I am so glad to know how to make this at home! Thanks, tom and Melissa!
Hope you enjoy it! Thanks so much for watching our channel. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!
I COULD EAT CRANBERRY SAUCE WITH MY LASAGNA!!! Love ❤️ it….
Hi Tom and Melissa! Welcome back from your Cruise! Tom, hope you feel better soon. I love this recipe. Nice and easy. My Mother always made fresh cranberry sauce for Thanksgiving, Christmas and other special holidays, occasions. This brought back some wonderful memories, thank you. Now that you have tasted your cranberry sauce, your voice sounds so much better. It's a miracle cure. I can probably eat the entire bowl. I love cranberry sauce. My mother lived near a local cranberry bogue. It was always fascinating to watch them harvest the cranberries. Have an awesome day. 😋😋🥰🥰
"Now that you have tasted your cranberry sauce, your voice sounds so much better. It's a miracle cure." 😂
My husband has the Texas crud. Get better soon. Thanks for showing us how to make cranberry sauce while you don’t feel go great.
When I was a little girl,my 15:02 Grandmother and I would look lettuce and I have been married for 57 years, and I look lettuce to this day. Thanks for bringing back good memories. I love your videos and I will use the cornbread dressing and the cranberry sauce for our Thanksgiving meal. Thank you so much.
You are so welcome. We love for food to connect us to sweet memories, and we are happy this recipe did that for you. We are honored to be a small part of your upcoming holiday meal. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
I love the way you present the recipes and include them in the description. Just a perfect channel.
Very similar to my recipe. I also add a small can (8 oz) of crushed pineapple at the very end of cooking. I have trouble finding that small can lately and have resorted to buying the 20 oz and hoping I find use for remainder. I love this recipe. I have a friend that adds apples and pecans to hers and it is good as well.
you will be part of our thanksgiving..this will be on our table.thank you for all the great recipes.hope you feel better soon & hope melissa doesn't get sick also..happy thanksgiving 🦃
Hope You Feel Better Soon My Favorite Cranberry Goodness 😊
Tomato juice is my favorite as well
Just in time! I just bought 2 packs of fresh cranberries. I’m looking for a recipe!
Good evening, Tom and Melissa. I just finished making the cranberry sauce for our Thanksgiving meal. Oh my goodness. It tastes and smells like my mamma has been in the kitchen. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing your recipes and tutorials. You and Melissa are a blessing for sharing the way you do. God bless.
Looks good. Love all cranberries home made and canned
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
I’ve made this for years. Love it. Hope you feel better soon.
Our Thanksgiving was in October and this year, cans were $5! I decided to make my own. I did it in the pressure cooker with a bag of fresh cranberries, 1/2 cup dark brown sugar, 1/2 cup maple syrup, zest and juice of a lemon, 1 cup of water and 1/2 tsp cinnamon. I had no idea how it would turn out, but it was delicious! tart and sweet, not too much of either. It was very runny when I pulled it out of the pot, but by the next day when it had cooled in the fridge, it was just the right consistency. I like the orange better, but all I had were lemons. Christmas is coming though so ... lol
I made this tonight. It is my first time ever making cranberry sauce. It is delicious.
I hope you feel better soon! I have always eaten the jellied cranberry sauce from the can and love it! I didn’t know homemade was so easy. Thank you so much for sharing!!

I make raw cranberry sauce. You need to make it a couple of days ahead. It uses a bag of cranberries, 1 apple and 1 orange and sugar. Make in a food processor. I like your recipe. I’ve made a lot of your recipes and they are yummy.
We love cranberry sauce here for the holidays. Hope you feel better Tom. Have a great weekend
I love homemade cranberry sauce! I want to try your recipe looks soooooo good.👍😋
Tried the cranberry sauce recipe and the dish was very tasty with a good consistency.
Praying for our Master Physician to heal your sinuses! I feel like I’m part of your family. I enjoy all your videos! Thanks
We really do appreciate the prayers and kind words. His allergies are getting better. The Kentucky crud gets him twice a year! We are so happy to have you watching our channel.
This looks delicious. I absolutely love cranberry sauce alone; with fish or on a sandwich. I did not know how easy it would be to make homemade. I will be at Publix today and will buy the ingredients for this recipe.
Hope you enjoy it like we do. Homemade is, of course, always the best! Thanks so much for watching our channel and have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday.
I never would have added cinnamon to cranberry sauce, but I'll add it this year! Thank you for all your recipes. I'm going to check out your Thanksgiving playlist.
I just made your cranberry sauce. Had to eat some with our pork tenderloin for Sunday Dinner. Delicious! Hard to stop grabbing a spoonful. I also put some cream cheese on a Ritz cracker and some cranberry sauce in top. Talk about good!! Thanks, Tom!
Thank you Tom and Melissa, I have enjoyed watching your posts and I will be using your cranberry sauce and stuffing! I love that you are enjoying your life after retirement. I was a teacher too! I retired 2015 and that year my husband got sick and we are now tied down to dialysis. I love to hear that you take cruise trip. Because we love when we did that.
Thanks for sharing with us soo many good recipes!!!! Made cranberry sauce for the first time today!!!! It's great!!! I am a 70 year old Baptist woman of God!!!❤❤❤
Looks so good hope you get better soon
I made the cranberry sauce and chili sauce meatballs for our family fellowship and it was a hit!!!
I love this cranberry sauce. The only thing I do differently is dice up an apple and cook with it. The apple makes it even more delicious.
Nice tip! Thanks for reaching out to share that with us. Have a great rest of the weekend.
Definitely trying this recipe! I grew up on the cranberry sauce straight from the can, so I wish I could thrill my parents (RIP) with a gourmet version! 😂 My Daddy would have said “Tastes like Downtown!” 🤎😂
I have 2 tips for you:
Get a Neti pot and use it every morning. We both use it in the shower every day. You can add a little pinch of fine sea salt or saline. It’s a miracle for allergies or any respiratory problems. For real. The Drummer is also a Blues singer so it’s not funny when he’s sick or stuffy. The neti pot is a saving grace.
I freeze cranberry sauce in an ice cube tray, then put the cubes in a freezer container. A cube is just enough for a sandwich (The Drummer LOVES cranberry sauce on almost any meat sandwich) or to serve with dinner all year. It awesome with barbecued ribs! Or pork chops. Or chicken. So I’ll make a double batch of this - one for Thanksgiving dinner and one to freeze up!
Happy Thanksgiving!
I make cranberry sauce every year for our family and extended family meal. I like to get organic oranges and lemons and zest them. Then I squeeze one lemon and two oranges into the sauce while it cooks. The rest is the traditional recipe. Love your videos! Happy Thanksgiving 💞
I just made this recipe for Thanksgiving with my family tomorrow. It is delicious! Thank you so much, Tom and Melissa, for sharing your recipes and detailed instructions and videos with us!! I thoroughly enjoy each one, and I get great ideas for new recipes to try, just to change up our weekly menu! I hope you all had a lovely Thanksgiving!
I love cranberry’s and a cranberry relish ! Thanks Tom
You are a good cook, and your lady is a very good cinematographer. God bless you both. One thing: when adding the extra sugar, the sauce needs to cook at least for antoher 5 minutes. Else, the sugar will cryalize and separate. So, perhaps they should taste it 15 minutes through, and add the extra sugar (if need be), and let it simmer until the 20-30 minutes up
Beautiful American Block bowl, you have good taste
I fixed your Holiday Cranberry Sauce for our Thanksgiving dinner, it was fantastic. Not a crumb left in the bowl… God bless
Never made homemade cranberry sauce but that sure looks good 😊
I will be making this ‘also’ from y’all, for Thanksgiving Dinner. Thank you both. I Sooo appreciate y’all’s genuineness. I Guessed from your First Video, You Are A Teacher❤️ Thank y’all so very much. Never in my 65 years have I had Someone’ impress me as you did in your young life to guide your career. Blessings to you both for a Wonderful Thanksgiving 🙏🏻
This is the same recipe my mom used for all of the years that she cooked Thanksgiving dinner. She gave me the recipe and I make this every year… and I think of her when I make it….
Hi 👋 ❤ yummy 🤤 ❤ I will try sharing with you cooking videos ❤ Thank you 🙏 ❤
This Holiday Cranberry Sauce recipe looks so delicious 😋 Mr. Tom.
After Thanksgiving when you are trying to use the leftover turkey, this Cranberry sauce would be wonderful on a turkey sandwich. A friend of mine used to heat some of the turkey and melt some Provolone cheese on it before adding the Cranberry sauce and a leaf of lettuce on a nice bun. YUM. THAT LOOKS SO GOOD!! 😊
I hope you get well soon. And I’m definitely going to make the cranberry sauce for Thanksgiving.
Thanks for the recipe 🦃
My sister always makes homemade cranberry sauce for Thanksgiving and Christmas, it’s so good!
We agree. The kind from a can is certainly convenient and there's absolutely nothing wrong with it, but there is something special about having it homemade. Generally speaking, everything homemade is better. Thanks so much for watching our channel. We really do appreciate it.
PRAYING YOU"LL GET BETTER SOON! LOVE THIS RECIPE , & LOVE CRANBERRY SAUCE! GONNA MAKE IT! THANK YOU & YOUR WIFE FOR THESE RECIPES! GOD BLESS YOU 2!
Cranberry sauce is my favorite Thanksgiving food! Looks great!!!
We think it's great, too. It definitely completes the Thanksgiving meal in our opinion.
Thank you Tom & Melissa!!!! Im actually drooling watching this!!!! We like things a bit on the spicy side......so when I do this I add a habenero or two. Its not hot.......but just a hint of hot. habanero with sweet/sour sauces like this is awesome!!!! Our favorite is rasberry/habenero......with mote cristo sandwich!!!!I hope you two get better soon! Add a little rum to your sauce and eat that......maybe it will help you feel better!!!! Have a great night you two!!!!!! get well!!
You've made us laugh that's for sure! Tom is improving - it's just takes a while to clear up the allergies. We appreciate that you are watching, and we hope you have a wonderful holiday season.
I love my cranberry too.❤️❤️
I've never made homemade cranberry sauce but this looks so easy, Yeah, you've convinced me to at least give it a try. Thank you.
My mother-in-law loved the canned stuff, but since her passing my daughter has been making if in a crock pot, and she does a pretty good job. Your recipe seems much simpler than the one she uses.
Thank you.
I hope you enjoyed your cruise, we have one booked for February and October. Can’t wait.
We do hope that your try our recipe and enjoy it like we do. Nothing wrong with the canned stuff and it gets points for being convenient, but homemade is so much better!
We had a wonderful cruise. We loved getting to visit Japan, Indonesia and Australia. What a blessing to us that trip was. We hope you enjoy your cruises next year, too. We think it's a marvelous way to travel and see lots of the world without packing. Your hotel moves with you!
Have a great upcoming Thanksgiving season.
Looks delicious! I didn’t know it was so easy to make homemade cranberry sauce. I love cranberries! I make a cranberry shortbread that is absolutely delicious and perfect dessert for the holidays!
Love that juicer!!! It looks like vintage Vaseline glass...gorgeous!
I also love homemade cranberry sauce! I make one batch for myself and mix it into plain Greek yogurt. Try that, it's so good! The way I make it is very similar to your recipe, I'll use your recipe for my next batch as I'm sure I'll love it too...thank you!
When we make it we use whole allspice 3, whole cloves 2, and add chunks of orange at the end as well as pecans, whole or chopped as well as the other things you listed. It's delicious!
Most of the time I use cranberries and just cook them with sugar and water, and I make a sauce for the knock off Costco roll ups with the turkey and cheese and lettuce and tomato and I mix the cranberry with cream cheese for a dressing for the wraps and it’s very good like that also but I can’t wait to try this one with the orange juice and cinnamon and orange zest. Thank you very much for the recipe and take care of both of you, love your recipes all the recipes are so good and you make it so easy with all your stuff and step-by-step instructions
Just wanted to say “hi” and thank you for your recipes. I make homemade cranberry sauce for our holidays and enjoyed seeing how someone else makes it. I do it the same way but without the orange. My daughter-in-law and myself are the only ones that like it and she doesn’t like it with the orange so I do it plain for her. We always have a lot leftover so I had to find many ways for the excess. I think our favorite is with peanut butter. The cranberry sauce is a great contrast with the PB. PB and cranberry sauce sandwich . Yum!
I just made this delicious Cranberry Sauce. It tastes great. Thank you!
In Texas we rock the beans. :) A friend of mine who didn't cook much was very confused.
I definately have to make this for thanksgiving. This is one of my favorite sides. Of course I’ll have to have a can of cranberry sauce for the people who just won’t eat homemade. I sort of feel the same as you do. I was supposed to get a shoulder replaced this past Thursday but I had a fever so they postponed my surgery. I thought I just had a bad cold. Now I’ll have both of my arms for thanksgiving dinner lol. Feel better soon Tom. 😊
We always make fresh cranberries , use orange as well, will try the brown sugar and cinnamon addition .We also do a cranberry relish with orange and walnuts that is not cooked , just put in food chopper. Both are delicious. Have a great Thanksgiving. Thanks for the recipes. Keep them coming......
Thanks so much for sharing!! I'll be trying this recipe on Thanksgiving Day!!😋
You’re bringing back beautiful memories from my past and I appreciate it so much.
Thanks for putting it in your playlist. Great recipe. Love 💕 and Hugs. ❤❤❤

You have the same stove that I have and every time your timer goes off my daughter and I look back at our stove in confusion for a second 😆 I’ll be making your lasagna recipe this weekend 😋 can’t wait to try it.
That's funny! We sure hope you like the lasagna. Thanks so much for watching and trying out our recipes. Have a great upcoming holiday season.
This looks amazing! Have you ever put raisins in this? I think I’m going to try this. 👍
I love Homemade Cranberry Sauce! My Momma still makes it ever year at Thanksgiving😁 Thank you for sharing all your yummy recipes!!
