@@Nachtelfin0des0Todes the marmalade is sticky tho and won't allow for the stained window or the candies inside. I think the hard candy cookie is just for looks because I can't see how it's a good idea to eat
Its called shortbread because the gluten strands in the cookie dough have been shortened by the butter. The fat coats the ends of the gluten strands and stops them from forming a gluten network. Think of how bread is chewy and soft, and cookies are hard and crumbly, because in bread there is nothing to stop the gluten from developing when you knead it, whereas there is butter in the cookie dough. So in short, it is called shortbread because it is like bread, but the gluten strands are shorter :)

I'm incredibly Yorkshire and Yorkshire is a place in England so I can tell you from experience that shortbread cookies are called that because when they were created the country was in immense poverty and the original recipe was a bread recipe without the eggs as they were expensive during those times.
When you crunched into the candy window cookie it reminded me of when the grinch eats glass. That sounds rude..it wasn’t meant to be, I think it’s cool af haha!

The Babish recipe is actually a recipe from some NYC place. It like some special salted cookie thing. It's all the rage right now. Ricks cookie recipe is made for non chilling it won't spread he developed it specifically so it wouldn't spread.
Shortbread has shortening in it (lard, butter, etc.) that makes it "short" as opposed to regular bread that is stretchy ("long") shortbread doesn't stretch.
Shortbread is my favorite cookie! It's got such a light buttery delicate flavor. They pair beautifully with a cup of tea or coffee and if you are feeling fancy try dipping them in chocolate...
It’s called shortbread because “short” is a word used to describe the gluten development. In a cookie like this, you want to develop as little gluten as possible, so the resulting texture is crumbly and breaks apart easy, whereas in a bread dough that you knead, you’re developing gluten so the end texture is elastic and soft, ie “long” gluten
Idk but I think rias cookie has 3 layers which mean a jolly rancher cookie then a hollow cookie and finished off with the candies inside and another jolly rancher cookie to finish it off
I know this is a year old video but in case anyone is looking at this for holiday cooking RIGHT THIS SECOND: when making tie dye cookies, use colors next to each other on a color wheel. So, blue and purple. Or yellow and orange. If you start crossing over then you'll start getting combinations that look brown. General rule is don't mix two complimentary colors but you can mix primary colors since that's how colors work. And personally I've always had the best luck dipping in a bowl instead of just smearing a little bit of frosting on a plate. The way I've done it and it's worked is by making up the frosting (or glaze....?) and putting a bit in a bowl then swirling in some food coloring with a toothpick.
It's called shortbread because the recipe originates from a bread dough that was enriched with butter. Once sugar became affordable it was incorporated to the recipe and yeast wasn't used any longer. However it was still called bread because Scots managed to avoid tax by calling it shortbread
That chocolate chip cookie sounded a bit too crispy for my tastes. Maybe some citrus zest in the shortbread would have added some flavor without overpowering.
After watching david for 3 years... ive learned something If it turns out when he does it... its a good recipe... i tryed tastys Japanese cheesecake but it failed Then i tryed the other recipe and it worked! If david replys to this thats my christmas present! Merry christmas David!
The reason the red and green make that swamp color but always look nice together is due to them being opposites on the color wheel! they neutralize eachother when mixed, But they are compliments! the reason some blue and red food dyes made an icky grey is because they’re either both warm colors or both cold colors! keep it up david, the cookies look amazing!
My mum usually makes lemon zest icing to go on top of her shortbread cookies and then puts the shiny ball shaped sprinkles on top to decorate them a lil bit. They’re 👌👌👌
Damn I love Queen Rie but hers is not comparable to Carla's Salted Caramel Chocolate Tart (which is Queen Claire's recipe). BA has it way over the top. Lol
Short bread refers to the snap of the cookie. The word short is often used to describe something crisp and snappy in pastry making. Bread bc it has very similar ingredients to an enriched bread. Short bread is one of the first variations of cookies/biscuits, so it was referred to as a short (crispy) bread.
Shortbread comes from how the excess of fat (the butter) shortens the gluten strands and creates that sandy texture. Old recipes of shortbread were a 2:1 ratio of butter to sugar. Modern recipes now often change the sugar to half regular granulated sugar and half confectioners sugar.
So, idk if anyone ever answered this, but shortbread is called short because of the texture the cookie has. A short dough has the butter mixed completely through the flour and gives it that crumbly, delicate feeling. You could compare this to something like a biscuit which would have larger chunks of butter throughout, so the dough gets slightly laminated and creates flakes, and on the opposite side of the spectrum is something like a croissant which is laminated all the way through and has layers.
Emma's Goodies recipes are the real deal. I've tried her tres leches, macaron and cream cheese cookies recipes, and they all turned out really well!!! Legit bakery quality! I've never gone back to a channel that frequently, and honestly I trust her completely now.

In the beginning of shortbread cookies any old bread was used to bake the cookies, so the bread was twice baked. Then over time baking the bread twice got replaced with butter, the “short” part of shortbread and now a traditional recipe for shortbread maintains popularity. Shortbread is an easy recipe it’s supposed to be simple. The recipe is 3,2,1 recipe meaning it’s a three ingredient recipe of equal ratios. 3 parts flour, 2 parts butter, and one part sugar.
I'm late to this party, but in New Zealand we oftentimes put a little bit of lavender into shortbread. I'm not sure where it's come from, but it's actually quite pleasant, looks nice as well.
This is the first time I've ever seen eggs in shortbread! It's usually just butter, flour and possibly rice flour, sugar and vanilla. I love butter shortbread.
Shortbread was originally more like a hardtack, made from left over biscuit dough in the 12th century. They added the sugar later on (16th century) to make the cookie we know now. Hooray, that useless fact finally became useful! Thanks for all your hard work on these videos.
Shortbread is so named because of its crumbly texture (from an old meaning of the word short). The large amount of butter is what makes shortbread short: the term short, when applied to biscuits and pastry, means crumbly, like shortcrust pastry should be. It is the reason why the fat added to biscuits and pastries is called shortening.
You're meant to use 3 cookies for the shaker cookies. 2 with the stained glass on the outside and one hollow one in the middle to create the space for the sweets in the centre.
I know Shortbread cookies are called Butter Cookies in like Mexico... my confusing with that recipe is the eggs. Every shortbread cookie recipe i have, doesn't include eggs.
Today I learned that I can't be a good baker because what I like in a cookie isn't what the good folks like. XD I saw that sugar cookie snap and went, "Noooo, that's supposed to be extra soft and chewy." That's my ideal cookie in EVERY scenario. If it snaps, it's closer to a cracker than a cookie for me.
Red food dye almost never makes red on its own. Usually gel food coloring is the way to go when coloring food red. It works more effectively. If not, use a couple drops of black food coloring with the red; it will make red and not pink
Bon Appetit's Rick used a pink and blue which mix to purple. You used red and green which--while they are Christmas colors--mix to brown. You tried to compensate with more sugar which led to bloom/frost, but, if you used colors that mixed well together, your tie dye cookies would've been much cuter with a more consistent finish!
it is called shortbread as before sugar was introduced during the war in britain it was a bread. Scotland then kept the name ''shortbread'' as it had become famous by then.
for context, using complimentary (green/red) colors is why the colors started to blend to a bit of an ugly color. complimentary colors always tend to blend to a brown color, since they arent similar. its probably why rick did pink/blue/purple colors

A short bread cookie, has more of a creamy buttery taste to it.
Shortbread isn’t meant to have all those extra spices. It’s meant to be simple and is often served with tea or coffee for dipping.
