The TH-cam algorithm is finally doing something right since this popped up on recommended. With that being said, how are you not at a million subscribers yet? These tests are amazing, and the cooks you test should feel lucky to be tested like this.

His recipe is almost identical to Joshua Weissman's. But I assume they both got their recipe from Hattie B's and just substituted milk with buttermilk.
I do hybrids all the time, so I guess the lesson is, Josha’s recipe, but with a boneless skinless thigh on a biscuit. That sound...... Nice job. They all looked delicious.
You are right, Sam the Cooking Guy is SO underrated on YT. This is the first time I've ever heard someone else mentioning him. I watch him a lot and made several of his recipes, and they all have been amazing. He's a great chef.
Sam is good. Sam is also very opinionated and rigid. I'm not really looking for someone to talk about non-food things in videos, and his rigid "This is the best way to do it, period" attitude kind of annoys me, so I don't watch a lot of his videos. He sometimes says things about food that have been proven false too which really bothers me.
Since you asked for our perspective, Life long Nashvillian here, I've never seen Nashville Hot Chicken as a bone in cut. Its normally boneless and served over a quick bread like, a slice of white bread (the devils toast) or on a waffle (with maple syrup) or biscuit. with pickle chips on top, The quick bread soaks up the sauce and most wont eat it until after the chicken is gone or at all because it hold so much heat or only the parts not saturated in sauce to cool the mouth down. Most places also usually offer it as a sandwich on Texas Toast. The dish is served usually with a sweet Slaw and baked beans or macaroni, and if you go to some Hattie B's/Bishops carrot casserole with marshmallows on top. Prince's is the best and is under rated, everyone goes to Hattie B's (the recipe Babish followed) because it got featured on all the shows, the best food truck though is Nashville Chicken and Waffles. the second one you did is closer to what you get at most restaurant meat wise, but the babish's and the third one's presentation is closer meat on the single slice, but its never bone in. The forth one you might get at a meat n three where its all old people and construction workers for breakfast with home cut fries and 2 scrambled eggs
@@rufushunter6396 Umm no, not always. Sure a quarter, half, and whole chicken is on the menu, but I've never ever seen any one order bone in hot chicken. I'm sure some might which is why I used normally. At Princes, Hattie Bs, and Big Shakes I've seen them actively steer people away from bone in. I had Prince's the last day all the restaurants were open to eat in. Joshua said something about breaking some tradition by making it boneless. If that's a tradition, it hasn't been talked about/enforced in my life time, until Hot chicken became a nationwide phenomenon like 2 years ago. We all know, Southern food is big on tradition look at the BBQ wars between Memphis, St. Louis, Texas, and the Carolinas. If that's how you order it though, that fine you do you, different strokes for different folks. All that matters is how phenomenal the Chicken is and how well it pairs with that hella good sauce, which is something im sure we could agree on.
Life-long Memphian neighbor over here, but I love Nashville (lived there a year during college), and I LOVEEEE me some Nashville hot chicken! My wife and I were really excited when Hattie B's opened up a spot here in the Cooper/Young area of Midtown Memphis. Tried to go to the original once in Nashville but the line was around the building. Ended up having Prince's instead which was damn good also.
I just started watching you, and I'm really liking these videos. From the way you set out all the ingredients at the beginning, to the amazing results you get. Dude, all four of those looked delicious. Great job, man.

Its great to see an honest review of these different big youtuber recipes, I'm so glad you actually went by taste and weren't swayed by popularity or entertainment value. Keep it up.
The lard/oil ratio is due to the fact that vegetable oil breaks down (evaporates) faster than liquified animal fat. [Try this experiment: pour vegetable oil in a pan and leave out for a week, you'll observe most of the oil will be gone.] 100% animal fat / lard can make the chicken greasy if not cooked at the right temperature and cooled properly (for example, after frying, placing the chicken in a 275 degree oven to "hot hold" the chicken helps it to release more oil and keep skin crispy). The oil/lard blend also imparts a nice flavor to the chicken and allows sauces to cling to the crispy skin well without making it overly soft.
"im an average home cooks, but... i try hard" this is why i like your channel though, it's very relatable and hit close to home because you are not afraid to upload the videos where you fail to make something. everyone does that sometimes.
I made it a few months ago and it was one of the best things I've eaten my whole life! The addition of the crêpes made the outside so crunchy and I definitely like the use of Dijon. Only thing I changed was the duxelles because I could only find fresh champignons in my local supermarket. Definitely worth the time and money for an unique luxurious experience
I'm a fan of all the channels mentioned with the exception of tasty, could care less about them, and tbh if people get offended over this video they need to grow up. All of these cooking channels always talk about how good their food is and it was really awesome to see someone actually make the food and give their option on it. Of course, you are going to have personal preferences, like if you enjoy boneless more you are probably not going to like the bone-in chicken as much. However, it was still interesting to get someone else's take on the food from these channels. And mad props to you for ranking them. I love food too much and probably would have been unable to do so. Bone-in, boneless, on a sandwich, on bread all I can think is mmmm... fried chicken lol.
@Nile Till this so much. They have name recognition above everyone else but babish. Granted, it's not usually positive recognition, but it's recognition nonetheless
Kinda sad Chef John wasn't in that mix, his channel got me back into cooking a few years ago and because of him I now know all these other TH-cam chef's. That said great vid, don't mind me while I go back through your older vids.
Since you have not suffered enough today, I propose you try tasty’s 20 Pound jiggly cheesecake Edit: since you have done cheese cake before another idea is the big ramen bowl
Nashville (almost) native here. Joshua’s is by far the most authentic. He actually submerges the cooked chicken in the oil-spice mixture instead of daintily brushing it on like the others. That’s how we do it in Nashville. We ain’t shy with that hot oil. The only problem I have with all four of these recipes is how they put the pickles on top of the chicken. That’s incorrect. The pickle slices go on the bread, and then the chicken goes on top of that. That way, the bread gets soggy from both the pickle brine and the chicken grease. Also, NHC is generally fried in pure lard, not oil or even an oil-lard mixture. Aside from those two things, Joshua Weissman’s recipe is pretty spot on.
YESSSSSSSS you finally did a Sam the Cooking guy video. I was just gonna comment on your latest video to do one. its like you read my mind lmaooo. Please do more Sam videos!!!!!!!
Former Nashvillean here. "Nashville hot chicken" is derived from the first place to serve it, Prince's Hot Chicken Shack in North Nashville. It had the lightest, crustiest batter on bone-in thighs. The heat snuck up on you, you tasted the flavor of the spices more than the heat, but you needed the bread to give you a break from the heat. Also, that heat was in the batter, not a sauce. It makes sense to use your cooking oil to add additional flavor if you add the sauce after frying.
The benefits of frying with lard or shortening is that it stays crispier longer. Shortening hardens as it cools and oil stays liquidy which leads to soggy crust. Most donut shops fry their donuts in shortening because the donuts last days instead of hours.
While these are all great, I kinda wish you would have gone with Chef John from Food Wishes' recipe on this one, possibly instead of Tasty. Still, it was a fun video to watch. :)
Thanks for putting this comparison together. I started watching Sam The Cooking Guy about a year ago because I found his food and recipes accessible to me as a novice. Who thinks David should make his OWN Nashville hot chicken recipe? I think it would be awesome!

Make Joshua Weissman’s beef Wellington
His recipe is just Gordon Ramsay's so it's obvs going to be good
I made it a few months ago and it was one of the best things I've eaten my whole life! The addition of the crêpes made the outside so crunchy and I definitely like the use of Dijon.
Only thing I changed was the duxelles because I could only find fresh champignons in my local supermarket.
Definitely worth the time and money for an unique luxurious experience
Oof he should do everyone’s beef well
Yes I agree it looks so fricking delicious 😋
He could compare it to gorden Ramsay and goga from sous vide everything

You mean *KWISPY*
Me as soon as I heard the crunch: "KWITHPY"
*zooms in on ass cheeks*

He's a mix of Zack from Suite Life of Zack& Cody and Freddie from iCarly.
He's like one twin? Doesn't that make him like the other twin?
Wassup check mark
Bro what’s wrong with tasty lmao?
Babish, Tasty, and Joshua? Wow the legend David's testing all the other cooking legends
Can't forget Sam. Sam is legit the most underrated chef in all of youtube imho.
Also You Suck At Cooking
Sam is ok. More entertaining than a good cook. I find Sam copies Guga a lot.
You didn’t try Chef Johns nashville hot chicken! 😭

Me watching David place the sauce on the chicken:
Don’t be shy, put some more
exactly, he needs to put more tbh
Teresa Adenaike In Nashville they dip it.
Tasty stacking up to pros? The use of bread crumbs for fried chicken tells you not so well.
David is the most underrated TH-camr, how does he not already have 10 million subs. I enjoy his videos so much! I binge watch them with my family!
The point of the bread is so the spice level when real hot doesn't kill you.
I just found his channel and starting binging because of boredom in quarantine.
its quality content either way, Welcome!
When I first discovered David’s channel I binged his videos too...and it was during exam time uh oh 😂
So... binging with Seymour?
Didn't know freddie from iCarly had a youtube channel
I literally made Sam's recipe for dinner earlier tonight before even seeing your video. It was amazing!
I been watching Sam for a while and I love all his videos because they make me wants to start cooking because of how simple he makes it look 👍🏽👍🏽
I feel like someone needs to make a mashup recipe of Joshua and Sam's recipes - all the best points
Literally doesn’t make sense. Sams best elements are already implemented in Josh’s recipes. Minus cheaper products
today is christmas for the cooking side of youtube
Kinda sad Chef John wasn't in that mix, his channel got me back into cooking a few years ago and because of him I now know all these other TH-cam chef's. That said great vid, don't mind me while I go back through your older vids.

His pasta aglio olio video is a joke. Absolutely disgusting.
SwallowTail 820 its an actual thing lol
10:37 Joshua Weissman: "Cwispyyyy!"
Don’t come for David he is a precious soul 🥺 just listen to the way he says pickle.
I knew Sam was going to win off the rip. Dude knows flavor.
Yoooo you finally tested Sam hes been one of my favorites for like a year now
While these are all great, I kinda wish you would have gone with Chef John from Food Wishes' recipe on this one, possibly instead of Tasty. Still, it was a fun video to watch. :)

Thanks for putting this comparison together. I started watching Sam The Cooking Guy about a year ago because I found his food and recipes accessible to me as a novice. I quickly found that not only was I entertained but I was making really, really good food based on his stuff. He's really changed my life.
