Can we just have a little recognition for the Brazilian free-tailed bat? They deserve so much more reknown then they are given.
The battle for *fastest* has been going on between the cheetah and the peregrine falcon for ages and ages. Cheetah can hit 120kmh, and while the pergrine flies at only 100kmh it can dive at 320kmh.
That's cheating, not your own power, no two ways about it. If that counts, fastest is actually the human because we can dive up to about 1300kmh now.
But this little known bat, who isn't even aware of what it can do, has been clocked at 160kmh in level powered flight. You win little bat.

I thought it's the Mexican free-tailed bat holds the title of fastest bat.

    Grateful for the awesome video!
Fruit bats are more effective seed dispersers than birds, because they manage to "disperse" in flight. Birds need to be perched. In some places here in Brazil, up to 80% of plant species in the Atlantic rain forest are dispersed by bats.

not sure birds need to be perched, ive had a bird drop one directly on top of my head as it flew over me! stood in the middle of a field in the middle of the day, whilst playing rugby!

@@BigPerm6999Yeah. I think, if anything, the fact of them being better seed dispersers is aided more by the fact that they roost in larger numbers and move together that way more often. They also tend to travel larger distances on average while foraging, even if they aren’t known for long distance migration, which any given species of bird will only do twice a year anyway.

That explains why they collapse and die during extreme heat waves.
Not sure about the frequency, but it happens to flying foxes in Australia, especially the mums carrying pups.

So when you look into it you would only see your bones, but in motion!
