Moths are underrated throughout most of human history because they were seen as vermin.
Moths favorite food is keratin which is the protean that makes up our hair nails etc.
Before the advent of cotton clothing and polyesters, wool and silk clothings would get absolutely destroyed by hungry moths since wool is hair and silk is keratin as well.
Now a days it’s not a big deal tho since most clothing isn’t made from that anymore.

Most species do not have mouths so once the caterpillars turn into moths, they depend on the nutrient they ate as larvae. That is why caterpillars have a voracious apetite, they need to be big eaters in order to survive long enough as adults to be able to mate in time.
There are a *very* few exceptions that do have mouths, or rather proboscis, the thingy that butterflies have to feed on nectar. For example, the hawkmoths are a family of moths that can eat and they feed on nectar, being another animal that pollinate flowers. They can live up to a month as far as I know.

I have a history of depression and unwanted suicidal thoughts, sometimes it’s hard to find reasons to keep going. But seeing that Rosy Maple Moth in the beginning really made a meh day that much better. Surely there are things good in this world if that animal exists. I don’t think I could live in a world without these amazing creatures

I've had the pleasure of seeing these moths in person. They're very beautiful and adorable. They're so fluffy. I actually saw them before i even knew what it was which is why I took the picture. Many kinds of moths are very common where i live. I think it's because I live near a lot of woods. Moths are very beautiful and I'd argue more versatile in their looks than butterflies. They have magnificent colors, body types, hair types, etc. So amazing. I hope you find more enjoyment in Earth's beautiful creatures.
