  • as a reformed shopaholic, professional organizer + personal stylist, the editing advice often shared to 'get rid of anything you haven't worn in X amount of time', is not helpful and can cause you to waste money by getting rid of perfectly good clothes!
watch this video to see three common examples of why this is bad advice and what you can do to get new life out of garments you previously overlooked.
it's important to try things on to understand WHY you haven't worn something so you don't just rebuy it again (spoiler alert: it's what we all do...).
    IS IT THE:
    fit?
    color?
    material?
    shape?
    styling issue?
it's fine to donate or sell things when you don't like the fabric, color, shape, and/or if it doesn't fit your actual lifestyle but be sure to takes notes on these things so you don't make the mistake of rebuying them again.

wonderful advice, thanks Laura! I wish my mom is nearby as she usually is the one who does all the sewing and tailor things for me!

LOVE this... I never tried things on before and now I'm going to do just that. but question: how do I know if something can be tailored? I've never done that before....

I suggest trying to find a good well respected local tailor that can guide you trough. years ago i started working with one and they explained how things could and could not be tailored. I would often bring new things in that I thought could be altered (KEPT THE TAGS ON IN CASE) and they were very helpful! it's about building a relationship with a trusted person.
