    As a young man I joined my town's Volunteer FD all gun-ho and loved it. After 9 years I "hung up my "gloves" so to speak because I could no longer stand the screams and almost "unhuman" moans and sounds of people hurt in bad car wrecks. I respect the men and women who answer the call to these scenes because you never know when your "gonna" come up on something that is beyond description.

It was farm boys normal people who weren’t afraid to get in amongst it , and figer out to get the job done, ripped doors off by hand lifted cars up to get free, then got back in their cars , pickups ,and left , ambulance showed up ,along with a cop or 2 to get the story done deal . But now every body just stands there gawkin , then the fire and rescue show up , 300 lbs per. Walk around laying out their tools , hoses ,etc. it’s all most a joke , the look in then out come the air tools etc. 1-2 hours the wounded and the dead are taken away , I think it was faster backin the day

The problem with this is that no matter how fast you travel, sooner or later there are going to be traffic lights (or roundabouts in England) and the people that were overtaken will be sitting next to you - waiting for the lights to change...So no time is saved in the long run...

      @mikenekosama4426 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@roostersideburns3440 I have never been very aggressive, especially after taking a summer's worth of Driver's Ed classes. When I am passing a bicyclist or adult pedestrian, I slow down and give them as wide a berth as possible. If I see kids or young families walking on the road (very common around here), I slow to a crawl to make sure I pass them safely. There is almost no passing allowed on two-lane roads (one lane in each direction) here, and admittedly it can be a little irritating to be behind someone who thinks that the posted speed limit of 50kmh/30mph is "too fast", especially when there is open road in front of them and a big line forming behind them.

    Worked many fatal crashes. Never pleasant, but 99.9% are avoidable. The worst was a mother high on pot decided she needed snacks and loaded the kids in the van then hit a car with two elderly people head on. The elderly couple both died and 2 of the woman's 3 kids died. The woman lived too. The baby survived in its car seat. I spent an hour and a half cutting her 9 year old daughter out from under the dash. It was tough, I knew the girl from my job as a school police officer. Over 30 years ago, but I remember it like it was last night. I had talked to that girl the day before at school too.

    • @johnnybryant4439
      @johnnybryant4439 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I Fully Agree that Most Fatal Accidents are Avoidable. Seen a Lot of Teenagers Killed because of Speed and Alcohol/Drug Use. When I was 17, I Helped put a Good Friend of Mine in a Body bag after We Pried What was Left of Him out of What was Left of His Car. He was Drinking and Driving, Took a Sharp Curve Too Fast, and Hit an Oak Tree at 110 MPH. Troopers said It didn't Look like He Tried to Stop. Still Hurts to Think about It after All These Years.

    • @johnstark4723
      @johnstark4723 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @johnnybryant4439 we cut the same kid out of two cars from two single car wrecks. How he survived either one no one knows. One he had just let a girl out at her home and then a half mile away hit a tree backwards so hard a keg of beer flew 150 feet and destroyed a garage door. The kid was high and drunk. The girl he let out of the car would have died. She heard the crash from her house.

Loaded the guy up and was doing CPR on him and just after leaving the house I got him back. His response was "why did you do that, I'm just going to die tonight anyway". Got a call the next day telling me the guy died during the night. I just look at it as his family at least got to see him one more time.

    Seeing this devastating wreck takes me back to and my niece and I wreck, thanks be to almighty God, and our guardian angels that were with us that horrible day..
    35 northbound in austin, Sept 13, 2012..I was driving and suddenly started hydroplane heading straight for the cement highway divider which caused me to go sideways on the highway..last thing I remember was looking to my left and seeing this huge 18 wheelers grill coming right for us on my side..now this part some of you may or may not believe or understand, but the millisecond before he hit us I was not afraid, just this incredible feeling of calm, peace and serenity taking over my entire body..this is a 4 lane highway and remember I was going sideways towards this truck..when he struck us of course we both were knocked unconscious..get this..not only survived the impact but when we landed we did so on all 4 wheels on the grassy side of the road! Next thing I remember was being surrounded by my "other" angels, 5 firemen putting a neck brace on me then using the jaws of life to get my door off since it was crunched from direct impact ..all in all my niece came away with a broken arm, broken ribs, concussion, cuts and scraps from all the windows on my side being shattered, windshield not even a crack!
    I was not as lucky, head trauma, (bleeding of the brain) but next day it just healed itself..shattered wrist, broken ribs, bruises and cuts...dont remember how many doctors I saw but every single one of them would come to my room and stare in disbelief..then saying to me, "you are a walking miracle" or " you were very lucky Emily " they all said never have they treated a patient who had a direct impact on my side door from a 18 wheeler going around 55-60 ..and live
    So my friends, yes it was indeed, that I am not dead and my niece ..or paralyzed or severe brain damage..my God I believe saved us for a reason and sent His angels to protect us..not a doubt in my mind..I just pray I am doing what He wants me to do with my time I have been blessed to have ..and the "earth angels" firemen and EMS personnel, I thank you for helping me..the doctors and nurses..bless you as well..God bless 🙏 everyone reading this..peace be with you all..be safe..🙏

      It DID help me. I live off Clinton Highway in East TN. 4 lane, ditch in between the lanes. There is a little bit of a blind curve and a small hill. I was coming home from work one day....speed limit 50, but I slowed down to 35. As I came over that hill/curve - a bumper went flying across my hood,as well of various car pieces - almost hit my windshield...and then, the rest of that car was sent spinning around in my lane. I went for the grassy ditch. Everyone was fine, but I was in panic mode for a good hour afterwards. I was very, very lucky.

    I can tell that they side-swiped each other. In other words, it wasn't a direct head-on, but enough to be called a head-on. I've always hated just watching cars pass ahead of whomever I'm driving with. If there's other cars behind them, they run the risk of getting seriously injured or killed too, especially if it's a big truck coming at you, the car in front gets catapulted right back at you and there's nowhere to go.

    • @donmoore7785
      @donmoore7785 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was more than "side-swiping". Perhaps you missed the part where the deputy stated the vehicles struck "head-on" - twice. Side swiping would not result in this amount of damage. You are incorrect.

    • @gosportjamie
      @gosportjamie 8 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      +jay ortega Modern cars are designed to fold up in a specific way in a collision and so dissipating the energy of the collision rather than passing it on to the occupants. IF people used all the safety equipment available to them, i.e. seatbelts, and drove according to the rules of the road there would be very few deaths on the road. But they don't...

    • @TwoBySevenLeo
      @TwoBySevenLeo 8 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      +gosportjamie Correct. Auto safety has increased greatly. I had a 2007 Kia Spectra. March 1st, this year, my boyfriend was coming home after dropping his kids off. It was dark, and pouring rain. He had pulled into the center turn lane of the highway and was slowing down. He said he'd seen headlights way up ahead (speed limit is 55 there) and the next thing he knew, he was suddenly spinning. He had been hit head-on. The car that hit him was a Camry...and hit him so hard that the Camry not only left the roadway - it ended up over a football field's distance away in the woods! The Kia looked horrid, if you'd seen it you would have thought someone injured severely or fatal...and my guy walked away from it. I was VERY impressed by what we had laughingly called our 'golf cart' in protecting him!

    • @gosportjamie
      @gosportjamie 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Chrissie Ellis I'm glad your boyfriend walked away. I bet he was a bit sore for a while but that is expected. Generally the worse a car looks after a crash now the better it is for the occupants. Obviously though, if there has been significant intrusion into the cabin or significant crushing of the cabin that is very bad news. I hope the police threw the book at the driver of the Camry. Cars are much safer nowadays but that doesn't mean a driver can drive in a way that is unsafe because a vehicle can only do so much to save you. If a driver fails to ensure their own safety by obeying the rules of the road, driving in a manner appropriate to conditions and wearing their seatbelt then they are pretty much waiving any responsibility that the vehicle manufacturer has to protect them. If everyone drove according to the rules and conditions and took the most basic precautions towards their own safety there would be very few road deaths...

      True. The entire steering column collapsed and the dash - all gauges froze at the readings when it was hit. He ended up with a couple of small cuts, and some really spectacular bruising, but was fine. He did have on his seat belt, and the airbags did deploy.

    This happens over 5 years ago.. I wonder where the passenger is today? Did she survive? Be careful WHO you ride with they can kill you if you make poor decisions. There are some hints that can help you with that decision but unfortunately you need to ride with the driver at least once to decide 1) does the driver give others respect 2) does the driver make you nervous (like following too closely... constantly braking and accelerating) 3) is the driver impatient (like they can't get "there" fast enough) 4) does the driver speed? Good drivers give others the right-of-way (they don't argue about it).

    It's time for car manufacturers to implement a frontal fast-inflating air-bag somewhere in the bumper cover, a device attached under the bumper, that would inflate at a fast rate when the car is in an unavoidable trajectory for a head-on collision. I'm sure this additional safety device could also be installed on semis and other types of vehicles. It would permit people to escape unharmed from what could be a fatal situation, one seen more than often.

      Then go the next step & suggest a design - if you have solved the 'riddle'.
      Anyone who declares with certitude "I won't accept NO...", must by logical inference have a "YES...and here's HOW we achieve said goal"
      We have the technology ?
      Please do tell.
      Your comment makes it sound as if "why don't we just whip up a 'collision preventer' has practical merit.
      What youre suggesting is on a physics level is a non-sequiter (sp):
      As my Dad used to say "You can't get there from here"
      Perhaps youre imbued of the silly notion that we as kids used to jest about how to prevent death from falling:
      'why not just jump up at the last second ?'
      Lol - as if such were possible, right ?
      In reality, todays Autos are MUCH safer in collisions by 10-20x versus 1950s models.
      BUT there are limits AND common sense and caution ARE mandatory.
      In this case negative human action even SINFUL BEHAVIOR - utter failure to exercise MORAL restraint, utter lack of considering others safety as important as ones own (on part of Cadillac driver) was the killer - not lack of sufficiently advanced tech.
      Btw, RIP to the totally innocent Toyota Van driver - can't fathom the loss her family endured.
