This is more like it. I was sick of seeing videos of young 25-year-olds calling up saying "I earn 200k a year but I'm 50k in debt ." This channel needs more under 50k earning callers.

Agreed. I’m not religious but believe it’s easier and better for all of us to encourage others to do better and be better. She needs only to look at her kids and know they deserve the best mom and role model possible and love them enough to give it. We’re not our past or our mistakes. I also hope she finds a way in the future make peace with who her mom is and forgive her for the callers sake. Forgiveness herself and others will get her far further than anger or bitterness. Her mom could be an addict for all we know where came from the same situation and it’s only doing what she knows how to do.

Dave has changed my life. I came in USA five (5) years ago from west Africa in a French speaking country. I have finished high school at 19 years old, went to college but with all political troubles in the country I have seen my education, my dream becoming a desaster. When I got here was looking for way to go back to school to get an engineering degree, but I didn’t know how because not getting any financial aid and working on a minimum wage job it could not be easy. So after watching some TH-cam videos I have learn more about the electrician job. Then I decided to get into the industry to make some money and then go to school. The good new came up the first day I watched the Dave Ramsey about to pay cash for college. I have applied his advices and the next semester I will be going to finish my third year in ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING. Thanks Dave for your advices.

I dont get upset when I hear about some people getting millions from their parents when the turn 18, or their parents paid for college, gifted them money to buy a beautiful home. That's exactly what parents are supposed to do, not put things in their kids name and screwing them over. SMDH

i believe that certain things in life that you go through, good or bad happens for a reason. It maybe something that you don't understand now, but when you look back years later at that particular moment in time, you can start connecting the dots to why it did happen, that lead you to where you are now and it all starts to make sense.

I don't believe parents owe their kids a college education or inheritance. Especially if they don't want to look after their parents as they get older. Like sonmany ditch their parents and they raised them so return the favor.
Saying this, no they shouldn't borrow in your name either! I think the best you can do is get them working early, saving and become self sufficient.

Baby step 7. Very few words to that one but all of them matter: "Live AND give like NO ONE else." We want to be able to help someone like this change their lives without blinking,if they show up in our lives. That's why we're working the steps as hard as we are. People often think wealthy people or people who aspire to wealth are selfish. I don't think that's any more true than to say poor people or people who desire a mediocre income are good people. Dave loves Jesus who says: "It is better to give than to receive." He always talks about how fun it is to be able to change someone's day/week/life and not even worry about how it'll impact his family. It's a non issue. So good!

When my husband and I went to buy a house we found out his father had taken about $10,000 in credit cards and loans in my husbands name. Luckily we convinced him to transfer it all onto loans in his and his wife’s names and got it cleared away for us but we were prepared to file fraud on all of that if we needed to. It’s terrible that parents do this to their kids. A year later we found out a credit card company had sent an new card to my husband’s parents house after the old one expired that was in my husband’s name and he started using they one too 🤦🏼‍♀️ it’s been a rollercoaster but we’ve set clear boundaries and made sure it was made clear what we would do if it didn’t stop.

Very common in poor communities. I grew up without much, but later in life I met coworkers and friends who came from absolute destitute homes. It was a recurring theme to hear of their parents putting utilities or lines of credit under their children’s SSN while they were underage. Very sad, selfish behavior, but those in poverty don’t know better, or don’t care.

This is the exact same thing that happened to me. I had bought a home at 23 and was doing well for myself then found out my mom had a credit card in my name, maxed it out and let it go into collections. I was making about 35k per year at the time. They started garnishing my pay check and I had to file bankruptcy b/c I did not want to file fraud charges. I lost my home, car and credit was horrible. Had a 18.5% interest rate on my car. It took me 5 years but I was able to turn it all around. Was able to go back to school and get my bachelors and then master. First generation college grad. I learned a hard lesson, but you can do it Amber. My credit is even better than before the bankruptcy. I'm a in financially better situation all the way around. My salary is more than 2.5 time what I made before. I went to small inexpensive colleges and just worked while going to school so I didn't have to take out more student loans I'm rooting for you and hope to hear how well you are doing a few years from now. The first 2 years were hard but you will see the light at the end of the tunnel if you take Dave's advice and your kids will learn from what you are going through and see you overcome.

Suggesting that she should be getting $80,000 is TOO big a jump. She would be giving up too much if her children's childhood in pursuit of that goal. An extra $1,000 a month would be life changing. Hopefully the financial coaches will direct her to not pay some if those bills right now. A pursuit if $80,000 can happen after the kids are adults. Do you really want her kids to be brought up by family members with grandma's values?

This. They need to give her some advice about what to do now without an income increase. Everybody talks about going back to school to make more money, but if you're already broke, that's years of trying to find the money for gas, books, school fees, child care, etc. If you're trying to work at the same time and your job won't accommodate your class times when your classes are not online, going back to school simply isn't feasible.

Not saying this is her story but when I was in college, I often lived in very average apartments. I had a roommate that spent her FAFSA money on a new flat screen tv and several hundred dollars on a large tattoo but would be behind on rent for several months. The landlord kept giving her extension and when I found out I got out of there ASAP in case he tried to go after me for her missed rent portion. 😒Im not even sure if she graduated. I had another roommate... Who at the time was late 20s early 30s with a whootpy falling apart taurus and was doing something in nonprofit, but when I hung out with her, she showed me all these scrap books with pics of her traveling the world and living large in her early twenties.. people don't know how to delay gratification and spend money as soon as they get it. Unfortunately don't think of the future or how to get to a good sustainable lifestyle.

Something interesting about Americans - well Dave Ramsey's audience I should say. How does one dare to buy a 14k car when they are already in debt and earn that much. I wouldn't buy a car that's priced more than one month of income. Full stop. At 34k a year, I would have to shop for a car under 3K.

Amber, you can do this. Focus on increasing your skill set and income whether you remain with your partner or not. As your income increases, pay off debt then save. The cycle is generational and with God’s help, you can break the cycle for your two boys. God wants you to prosper, He has a purpose and a plan for your life. You’re young, you’re smart, you’re a mom. Don’t give up. Be selective who you share your story with. Sometimes that means don’t share with your family. It’s not that you don’t love them but you need to be around those who will pray for you , lift you up and yes, those who are prosperous. You got this! 💗 Amber, God says that we are the head and not the tail. We are lenders and not borrowers. Finish school, save your money, buy a home. Be the “first” in your family. Show your boys they can succeed in life, despite of. You can do it! Cant wait to see you on TH-cam doing your debt free scream. I don’t know you but I’ll be rooting for you.

Situations like this you have to dig DEEP and is a matter of will. So many people become slaves to the bank and stuck at a low paying job. I hate seeing it. Having a nice car or a big house that you don't own isn't freedom.
