      Yeah, sometimes we fear that we are missing out in life for not going out and having several relationships, but the good side is that we are also avoiding headaches that people like this caller get through because he married and started making babies too early in life.

    It's very unfair to the children to make them grow up in poverty. Why so many kids with all that pre-existing debt? It's not like they didn't know the student loan and credit card debt was already there and yet they just kept on with the new cars and new house.

    • @LoveLife-oo9cz
      @LoveLife-oo9cz 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Because their parents can't afford to give them those things or even bother to educate them about debt. Kids want to feel "wow", they want to be recognized that they can have the same stuffs that their friends have. Talk about student loan, if their parents save for them in 529 fund each month then they wouldn't need to borrow student loan. Parents receive child tax credit every year, did they bother to put in college fund for the kids? "Nope, I'm too poor" excuse and lazy excuse over and over again. I do feel sorry for people with reasonable student loan.

      Our parents couldn't give us much for college bc they started out very poor. But college didn't cost as much. We could work part time and pay half as we went. College is no longer a good idea for some people. There are tech and vocational careers that don't require it and lead to good jobs.

  • @yamamancha
    @yamamancha 4 ปีที่แล้ว +41

    Dave was so offended that he really could not take in any information Johnathan was providing.
    He makes about $100k gross. The problem is his wife feels entitled because she's popped out 4 babies.
    Having babies doesn't entitle you to use your motherhood or your babies to control your husband OR ruin your financial future.
    They need to sit down and have a serious talk about money. She can either agree to get on board or she can be treated like a child and get a monthly allowance from which she takes care of her duties. That requires cutting the credit cards and only allowing her access to back account with a slush fund (you assume the money will be spent irresponsibly).
    $178k mortgage
    $60k in vehicles
    $50k student loans
    $10k credit cards
    $10k personal loans.
    This really isn't that bad (and don't let anyone make you feel bad about having kids early!)
    With $1.5k/wk after taxes, you should be able to put $3k/m towards debt. Easily.
    1) Sell both cars. Immediately. Once you clear the balances and have no vehicle debt, buy ONE $3k used car in cash.
    2) Pay off the credit cars in FULL within 3 months. Confirm zero balance, and then close accounts.
    3) Do the same for the personal loans.
    4) If absolutely necessary, buy a second $3k vehicle in cash.
    You should be able to get this far before the end of next next year.
    5) Find a way to increase your business income or get a side hustle.
    6) Plan to live off $30k for one year then pay off student loans within 1yr.
    7) Congrats! You're onto Baby Step 3 by 2023, debt free except your mortgage, and looking for a new home for your wife and 7 kids.
    Conversely, if you don't take control of your wife and your finances, eventually you will grow to resent her and find yourself tempted by the outer influences of the world. You'll eventually divorce and see ALL your hard work go towards child support for the next 15+ years. You'll be miserable for the rest of your life.
    Be willing to hurt (emotionally) your wife with the truth now in order to spare you both and your kids the agony of a broken family a few years down the road.

    • @shutupandeatasmr4498
      @shutupandeatasmr4498 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Wishful thinking, but I doubt they will try to go from 100k down to 30k with his wifes mentality. She feels entitled. And he has 4 kids. I made 30k in my 20’s and had no debt but it was enough for me myself and I. I canT imagine bringing 4 kids and a partner into the equation.

Then do a five year projection to his wife stating our current behaviors could see us close to 500k in debt in 5 years. As others have stated she needs to figure out how to bring in money. I wonder what she did to make money before they were married? She could do an in home daycare. Data entry or bookkeeping are good stay at home positions. Also she may have grown up broke and so in her household the mantra was "we struggle, but God always provides." I think with the right support group and discipline they could go far.

    There was a lot of religion in this particular talk lol. I listen to Dave every day and i don’t mind it much (i’m an atheist) but this one he was in a very preacher mood. 😂 Not hating, just observing. :P

      It's because the wife brought God up regarding debt and not wanting to pay it back, so he's using God's word to prove her wrong.

      @Ay-B 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Not preaching. He was coaching that guy on how to give his wife a scriptural smackdown so that she couldn't use God as an excuse for bad financial habits.

      @@nicolegrande6151 Same here, I got mad of many Filipinos who view it that having plenty of kids is not a problem because God will provide. My two cousins in Philippines is living the poverty line and both of them have 4 kids and no college education and no job too...

    $1500 a week after taxes isn't $50-60k....that's $72k after tax and about $85k before tax in Texas.

    • @PointB1ank
      @PointB1ank 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I assume Dave didn't hear the "after taxes" part. I know he did the math quickly, but 50*1500 should be able to be done in your head in like 3 seconds. But he also said it's a personal business: so it might not be a steady 1500 either.

    The Lord said "Be fruitful and multiply" , he didn´t said "like rabbits" or imply that He would feed you or your family, in fact he later said "By the sweat of your brow you will eat your bread", so stop being idiots and work to correct the mess you created, jeezz, people.

    This call wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Taking care of six people on 80k/yr is a nightmare, especially since his taxes won't be straightforward but it's doable.

      If the youngest child is 12, why is the wife is a stay at home mom? Why can't she contribute on the income? I don't understand why he called when the answers are obviously in front of him. This guy needs to grow up and be a man!! Blaming God for his problems!!

    I never rushed to get married, buy a house I couldn't afford, or spent all my money on consumer BS. I certainly didn't father multiple children with different women. I thought that was all crazy. I never spent money at the nightclubs, I worked at them instead. I sat on the sidelines for a long, long time. I didn't know what I wanted to do, but I certainly knew jumping into the "married with kids and house debt" group wasn't one I wanted to belong to. I'm 43 years old, and currently I'm putting myself through business school (BBA finance degree). I finished my first year with a 3.95 GPA. I'm in my 2nd year now of the program. I didn't go the expensive university route, I went to a local college that offers both an advanced diploma AND a bachelors degree for half the price. I just got hired at a national bank, and will work my way up to management roles. Company benefits plan, matching investment plan, and pension plan. YES :) I save minimum 50% of my income, invest regularly, and bought a Honda Civic I will keep for the next 15 years. Some say I'm "boring". I say I'm strategic. Thanks for all you do Dave. God bless :)

    Children are the greatest blessing to your life you can ever experience but it's your job to make sure you can afford to feed, clothe and shelter them and give them all the love you have and it's hard to do that if you are starting out from a position of extreme debt.
