Absolutely my favourite King Crimson album. Love the bass and vocals, Mel Collins brings the jazz, tremendous drumming and then Fripp applying scintillating genius guitar. Shout out to the great lyrics (I won't hear a word against Ladies of The Road - it's documentary!). And then you have the classical players on top. Truly a fantastic album

  • @ash_11117

I can't put in to words how great this song is. In the beginning when Ian Wallace tapped the ride symbol, is simply impeccable, along with how his drums are throughout the entirety of the song. The drumming, it's simply amazing. Boz Burrell's bassline in this song is very great, I am glad he was a member of King Crimson for this album. The first beat drop is simply incredible and how it melds into a chord solo from Robert Fripp, very unique and great. Eventually it transitions something else entirely. The haunting, HAUNTING organ playing in the background gives an ethereal feel to the song. And after the song seems to end that organ still continues. It feels like something that would give me nightmares as a kid. Simply put, it's one of their best songs, for sure definitely the best off this album. King Crimson is disgustingly underrated and this is just another example of why.

The first time I heard this album we had just split some blotter acid 4 ways and it did not take long to feel this happy vibes. By the time we got to this song, we were flying! I remember how the ending crescendo sent us to the moon. We followed up Islands with The 12 Dreams of Dr Sardonicus and then Meddle by Pink Floyd. I don't remember anything about the rest of the trip other than having a great time. Music was more than just a 3 minute pop hit that is quickly forgotten now a days, then it was meant to really get into it, revisit whole albums and debate their place in music. Great tune from King Crimson, one of many. 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶

This track kills me every time I listen to, no matter the time... The mellotron (I guess is that) in 3:00, and how increases volume at 3:36, while that crazy chords still hit. And, of course, the climax in 4:20-4:26, one of the best music moments I've ever heard. The key note in 4:27 is simply crushing, and how comes the drums and mellotron. Simply no words. The word masterpiece doesn't do enough justice here.

Islands is a flawed album, but the title track is a rare moment of blissed-out beauty from this normally tense, coiled band, and this instrumental points ominously to the improvisational aggression of the Wetton era (from 'Larks Tongues In Aspic' through to 'Red'). Brilliant!

The coda of Mahler's Sixth Symphony is unequalled in its sense of devastation and desolation. This (6:35) is not far behind

As strange as this sounds, I wish the British band ‘Bauhaus’ would have done a cover of this song. I think would have pulled it off quite well.

For the chordal solo Fripp does here, how does he play with a distorted tone without it sounding like shit? Is he playing quartal harmony?
