This play by play narration of Brett Kiddings Grand Prix Dressage Freestyle debut is performed by none other than Tristan Tucker who is the founder and creator of the TRT method of training.
    Not only is this grand prix dressage freestyle hilarious to watch but more importantly this horse is a saint for putting up with all of the bouncing and bobbing around that is done in the name of dressage comedy.

    For those who feel bad for the horse, there’s no need to.
    The way he moves his hands are vertical and a bit lateral. Meaning there’s close to no increase in pressure. If you would measure the amount of pressure in the horses’ mouth, it will probably be ten times less than the average ‘pro-rider’.
    It’s actually very interesting and a good leaning experience to analyse Tristan.
    Watch the horses’ expression and imo it’s very clear he’s fine with this. Sure, he sometimes opens his mouth, but every horse does. It just means it’s a bit more pressure than he’s used to. Not because of pain, but an unprepared increase of pressure probably. A horse that’s used to a regular max of +- 5 kg will open at let’s say 7 kg. So imagine what he is used to feel.. (the answer is close to nothing at all) He looks content and attentive.

      @terkabone 2 ปีที่แล้ว +107

      And that's the horrible thing about modern dressage. That a 5 kg pressure in the horse's mouth is "OK" and "normal". Holy cow, that's a lot of pressure to such a sensitive part of horse's body! And it's sad if you think that "every horse opens his mouth against the bit sometimes" and it's "normal". And the thing that other pro-riders do much worse things to their horses doesn't mean that this is good. Once you find the art of classical dressage and academic riding, you will not find this alright.
      But I didn't want to say that Tristan is an abuser, not at all! I like his attitude to the horses and his ways of training. I'm just saying that I would be ashamed using more pressure than needed to the horse just for an entertainment and fun.

    • @claudia273
      @claudia273 2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      @@terkabone Have you ever ridden with a rein tension meter? I never said 5 kg is normal. I just said it was a possible max. And don’t be so certain you’ve never reached that amount.
      And stop preaching about classical dressage, because for every classical rider it might be even higher. I’ve seen real classical riders reach thrice that amount. So know what you’re talking about. 😉
      I believe a normal connection was around a mean of 1 kg. So that 5 kg is a little more than two times that amount per hand. So it sounds more than it is

    • @terkabone
      @terkabone 2 ปีที่แล้ว +40

      @@claudia273 You obviously don't know what you're talking about. The principle of classical dressage and Ecole de legerete (literally The school of lightness) is to teach the horse on the lightest aids including the rein contact. I'm really curious where you saw such a strong rein contact used by a classical rider. Read something about this topic before saying such a bullshit.

    • @claudia273
      @claudia273 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@terkabone I’m pretty sure I’ve read and learned more about classical dressage. I’ve literally spend decades in multiple countries learning about it.
      Funny you mention Karl. Because it actually was a Karl rider. And btw, I don’t have anything against his method. I actually have great experience with him.
      But every method of training horses has ‘ugly moments’. It’s not that difficult to find ‘ugly pictures’ of him even. There are definitely some open mouth picures of him, someone recently mentioned he had one on his own website. (Not sure whether this is true)
      Let’s talk again when you used a meter. You’ll be surprised.

      This is exactly why I take the stance that dressage on every level should be done without a double bridle. They should be banned, no rider has a right to that much leverage, it's unnecessary and not needed as you explained very clearly here. Yet, way too many dressage riders want to come in and argue that double bridles/two bits are necessary to perform the movements, a theory this equestrian proved completely false in under 8 minutes.
      The second I saw one rein and a snaffle, I knew I would love this video. Love your intelligent comment as well. I don't see them often enough regarding equestrian sports. You hit it dead on, respect!👏

      I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but you can easily force horses into doing things they don't want to. You can even teach them not to react to it and just accept it. It's sadly something that happens way too often.

    • @winry2357
      @winry2357 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      @@Pheo_ as someone who grew up with horses, they’re way more stubborn than you give them credit for. I had a horse that loved to swim, but wouldn’t put one hoof in a mud puddle, no matter what I did to work with her on it. I had another that would chase cattle and face down a bear, but god forbid he go within 20 feet of a plastic bag. I had one horse who hated to turn right, so we had to go the long way around and make left turns only for the most part, she was just stubborn that way. At one point, my family had 13 horses on our property, each with their own quirks. A horse will only do what you ask if they trust you and if they don’t think you’re asking too much of them. I also had a pony that was what I called “bullet proof” as he would not spook at anything and would do anything I asked of him. All I did was spend a ton of time with him and gave him a moment to assess what I wanted from him, then he would do what I asked. You seem like one of those people that watch too many movies about the abused horses and think the most common way of training must be to whip them half to death so they listen. There are very few trainers who work that way and their careers never go anywhere.

      @@winry2357this is the truth!!! Horses will not listen and do what you ask of them if they don’t trust you or feel safe! I know this is true because my horses will let me know if they don’t want to work one day or are just feeling sore or tired. And they’ll tell me that because they know I’ll understand and adjust as needed. Most owners listen to their horses and the horses in return want please us! They’ll show you if you look for it. It’s amazing to see. Some people just take advantage of that and that’s where the world turns into an ugly place.

Going around the arena, I was bent over the right side of my pony, while she was cantering. I remember wondering is any body going to notice! Lol! I then rapidly used my hands shaking my hair. Finally got the wasp loose too fly away! I didnt get stung but the buzzing I heard & felt, put me in panic mode. I was a wreck but finished the class! Didn't place of course. People totally noticed & were confused at first & entertained, because Pooh just did her thing , while I was in a panic survival mode. The Judge handed me my hat at the end of the class! Smiled & said exstrodanary ride. I am sixty five now & still remember the laughter afterwards. I was very proud of pooh for keeping her composure, through the whole ordeal! To pretend to ride so badly and yet manage to ride so subtly well is brilliant. A terrific amount of training is behind this gem. What is sad is this goes over the head of most of the commenting folk. At least the laughing judges and the audience got the humour.

    This is an impressive piece of riding. To have a horse that is so trusting and patient of you while acting the goose in the saddle is amazing. Nothing feels worse for a horse than someone bouncing and jiggling on his back. At no time was the rider putting any pressure on the bit and this horse just flowed seamlessly through all the changes. I would love to see this performance without the Aussie carry on as I think this horse is one of the best in dressage I've ever seen. They share the love.

    If you are worried about the horse, look at its ears. No pinning, no nervous flicking, this horse isn't bothered by what he's doing.
    Remember, horses do get used to loads of things, and in the disabled Olympic, some of the riders have challenges that affect how quiet they ride, and that doesn't necessarily make the horse uncomfortable. It's trained to handle it and understand how to sort the "noise" from the cues.

    Love it! He managed to hit many of the little nightmares that pop up. My horse hated the pot plants on the letters to the point I wanted to put a window box of geraniums on his stall door. One news camera guy popped out in front of us and got really nice footage of my horse's belly as he reared. This rider covered so many more moments that we encounter on the way.

Extra kudos to the horse for staying calm with all that commotion going on above, it shows a true showman and well-trained horse.
