I owned a show jumper and she loved to jump. On her own in the pastures, if she got into the ring then she would take a fence, like she was showing off for everyone.
she keeps way to much contact on the reins and you can tell the horse is like "give me my head a little bit". like she hardly releases over the jumps which caused alot of the faults. horrible title too.
I thought this too but dont know alot about jumping horses. She looked like she had those reins way to tight, and she didnt seem to flow with the horse she seemed tense
He clearly just had one of those stutter steps where he misjudged the takeoff... Got confused between adding a stride or leaving long& so he stumbled through the fence & she lost her seat. Definitely didn't "knock her off" & it really wasn't HER fault, either (I've had that exact thing happen in warm up & my horse scissored the top rail with his front legs and we had a full rotational fall- it was pretty nasty- but it really wasn't either of our "faults," just a freak accident! And my guy was only 4; still learning!!) This was hilllllaaaRRRIOUS though!!!! What an awesome horse, I want him!!!!

The horse stumbled on landing at 8a, the rider lost her seat, came forward and then landed ahead of the saddle, couldn't get properly reseated, and eventually slid off.
She wasnt riding right. The horse is clearly well trained. The rider didnt shift forward for jumps. I think she was throwing the horse off. Not a good bond
I kinda feel sorry for the rider. I’m glad she seemed ok. Sure, it was her own loss of balance that caused her to fall, and the horse did seem to time his jumps better without her, but falling off a horse is a much higher drop than most people realize and you hit the ground a lot harder than you’d expect to.
Falling off a horse is usually pretty quick though. Like, I'll lose my balance and in the blink of an eye I'm on the ground. Then you shower and your skin has turned blue haha :)
I was so worried she'd been stepped on at first, I gasped. Thank goodness she was okay - I was at a show where someone's stomach was kicked or something similar as they fell, and they had to all halt while EMTs loaded the girl onto a stretcher.
did anyone notice that when he careened past the end wall of mirrors he kept LOOKING AT HIMSELF in the mirrors? checking to see if his mane was in place...
Yes....I'm wondering why those mirrors are there. You usually don't have them for show jumping at all, as it distracts the horses. Looks like they converted a basic training arena for this competition and forgot about covering the mirrors.
A horse has no idea of self recognition. It cannot tell that the mirror is a reflection of itself. I know the original comment was meant to be jocular, however facts exist as well.
Beings this video was from 7 years ago, I would absolutely love to know where this horse is now, and how many competitions it has won. You know there is a lot of winning with this one! Just perfect!
The horse didn't toss her off, the jump didn't go right and the rider lost her balance, was hanging on, and the horse was trying so hard it just kept on going and the rider eventually fell off. Cute horse, it did make me laugh
+Victoria Allen We don't know the backstory of this horse, do we? We have no idea if he's been forced to do it a lot, to the point that it's imprinted into his brain, or if he just really enjoys it/sees it as normal.
Well, no surprise here, the rider was bumping her ass up and down on the saddle, it was a matter of time she lost her balance. Back to the basics babe! Good effort, however. Kudos for the horse XD
@Texas Poontapa The rider was pulling too hard and the horse was showing signs that they needed to loosen up. The horse actually appeared to do better after the rider fell off. If you're falling off the horse you shouldn't try to hold on either.
You can tell he likes to jump. Now the rider should take a lesson from this and stop interfering with his face and be more of a partner. He had relaxed beautiful jumps riderless.
How do you know a horse likes to jump? I have never seen any horse jump over tree stumps in the wild. It't pushed upon a horse to jump. Nothing fun or natural in it.
My god, not everybody can be a perfect equestrian. So what she made a few mistakes? I bet she'll learn from them, no one likes an "online instructor", where's your equine science degree?
The horse didn’t “knock the rider off” the rider lost balance and fell off, the rider should’ve jumped off instead of trying to stay on even tho they knew they would fall off over the jump
Houston and Chianti For me it’s kind of hard to think about that because no matter how many times I’ve fallen off I’m always in a state of panic when I do, if I was able to think properly when I was I would let go of the reins and just let myself fall, so the rider probably was in the same state of mind as me when I fall.
@@haleydunn8392 Well, I wouldn't hang on to the neck of a horse through a whole course. Though, it does sound like fun if the horse was as calm as that one.
Agreed. Held him too tight, especially over the jumps when you need to give the reins some slack as the horse thrusts its head forward to make the jump.
The horse NEVER knocked the rider off. The rider was off her game from the start. But what a beautiful animal. It almost seemed to bow to the crowd anytime it passed, as if to say "Brother, I can do this faster AND better without that rider. So, this is for y'all". BEAUTIFUL HORSE !!!!

Didn't look like the girl riding was the actual owner. He didn't slow down til he saw the girl come out of the crowd and there was obviously no bond with the rider or I think he would have stopped to make sure she was alright. Horses are so smart, I don't think he liked being lent out.
Lol my old pony would throw me and bronc straight over to the nearest patch of grass. We had a great relationship and a very close bond, but life isn't a heartland novel.
I was riding a small black pony named Evan ( he was sold about a year ago 🙁) and it was my first time riding him and my barn had just gotten him and he was very spooky. I did not know him very well either, and we were cantering and he spooked at a tree and lunged to the side and threw a small buck and I went right over his neck ( lol ) even though he did not know me he stopped knowing if he went forward just a little he would step on me. I gave him a pat and got back on. You don’t need a bond with a horse to have them stop after you fall off, he was a good little pony even if he was a little spooky and that is why he stopped :)
Chelsea Wiersma every horse has its own personality. That horse might’ve been a little bit determined and knew he had to go over those jumps even if the rider fell off.
Annie Ibarra :D :3 it was actually not his fault it was a mistake the horse was going too early and she lost balance so she probably pushed her wait on the neck and hoped to stay on though she ended up falling off
The best response when an idiot in group work says "There is no I in team". (Usually the idiot is the one who doesn't do any work).. Is to say "Well there is in cooperation". I did this once, and then requested to change groups. My request was accepted. Because the person in question had a history of being a horrible person.
I think the girl he stopped for first time at the end is his actual owner, its not unusual for friends/barn mates to compete at the same competition on the same horse.
Well... probably would have worked better if stupid did not keep her crop in hand... obviously there is a lack of trust between the horse and the rider. And no code or listening whatsoever.
smokeykit57 agreed. I put no blame on the rider or horse. Mistakes happen and she miscounted the strides. In the end both rider and horse are fine. It will make for a very interesting show story.
@@1Horselove122 Yay - a brain at last. You're 100% correct. If horses liked jumping they'd do it for fun but they don't. Ever. They'll do it only to survive in the wild (escaping a predator) and they do it only to avoid pain in an arena. They CAN jump when they have to but their legs aren't designed to take that stress of jump after jump after jump after jump. Show me an old jumper who isn't on bute every day and I'll show you an old jumper who is in pain from his destroyed joints.
xXFlicka_and _MeXx thats not what dead weight means jfc. OP meant the horse got rid of the rider, who was barely hanging on and just being a burden after the jump where he tripped
@The General then why did he already start jumping once the girl fell off? He could’ve certainly ran straight to the arena gate yet he chose not to, some animals like to do some things yk, they can have a personality just like us.
That's what you call a " push button" horse. It knows it's job & does it. Perhaps it shows a horse does enjoy it's job. My qualified hunter when let out in my schooling ring would run & yes, jump the jumps as he ran around. Enjoying himself. I loved watching him.
That horse did NOT like his rider, you could tell from the beginning; he became much more loose and controlled AFTER she fell off from lack of paying quality attention to his strides. He did MUCH better without her and then when that second young lady came out he instantly stopped and touched his nose to her like "next time, YOU and I will be doing this, not that one."
windy ellis yeah. The rider probably wasn’t his owner, and was just riding him for her, because he didn’t slow down when the rider reached out, but stopped when a different girl came out of the crowd.
You have no idea what the circumstances were so don’t go around making bitchy assumptions of people because I bet if you were in that saddle it would be a whole different story
Alexis 27Koenig that rider was definitely pulling the horses head back as he tried to jump. Trust me. I’m a former show jumper and I’ve seen it a lot. She definitely was holding him back
This is a horse that clearly enjoys his job! He wasn't scared, or feeling trapped, or being chased. Look at his body language and the way his ears are perked; he is bucking and playing and jumping for the pure fun of it, then making a game of "catch me if you can" until he's offered a treat!
This horse is awesome! It's obvious he loves to jump, since he wouldn't take the fences on his own it he didn't enjoy it. That enthusiasm in a horse is hard to find. I'd take this guy home in a heartbeat!
He's not enjoying it, though. You can see he follows a pattern, he knows exactly where to go, meaning he was trained until he perfectly knew that course. He probably was yanked on or smacked with the riding crop if he got it wrong or missed a jump, one of the reasons he didn't stop after the girl fell. I lived for years right next to a large equestrian centre, and I would often ride there, and I can tell you, the only time I've seen horses jump fences on their own was when they got afraid of something (loud thunder, small dog running around, etc.)
She's obviously a young rider, and we all make mistakes when we are learning (and even the highest ranked pros fall off sometimes). That horse of hers is a gem, though - love that he just kept going.
I agree. Putting so much blame on the rider isn’t fair, I personally think she should have let the horse move out more and rely on her seat more than her reins but she knows what she’s doing and she’s jumping large fences.
Some people do and some people have talent and money. This girl bad talent but just needs more time and a stronger connection with her horse. It’s bad enough when you fall off, but it’s even worse when it’s posted online and people are going “ohh, that girl has too much money and not enough talent”. Just saying tho, please don’t get mad
This shows how smart horses are. This horse managed to memorise an entire complicated ride and WIN IT. Horse definitely came to steal the show. Plus, look at that beautiful mane
@Hey it’s Veronica When he was jumping with the rider, he was knocking the poles down. When he was jumping without the rider, he wasn't knocking the poles down. How can anybody stop a BEAST like that? The horse being a goofball and a star came through. And perhaps him trying to finish the competition showed that not only did the horse want to be an absolutely star but the horse also wanted to win. It came to WIN. Absolutely gem
@Hey it’s Veronica Don't ever underestimate a horse's capabilities. And let's face it, the horse was better at performing without the rider on it. With the rider, the horse was knocking down poles but without the rider, it wasn't knocking down the poles. It doesn't take a genius to compare and figure it out. Don't get so jealous and try to take it out on me, the horse or anybody else that you can't be a star or a winner like that beautiful gemstone of a horse.
@Hey it’s Veronica You thinking that my argument is allegedly invalid and doesn't make sense just shows how narrow-minded you are. And even if the horse didn't 'win' the show, it certainly won the hearts of everyone watching the horse performing. It kicked a*s and it looked good doing it. And don't call me a dumbass or friend because I'm not a dumbass and you're not a friend, I don't even know you. All I know is that you're hating on a horse and limiting it when research shows that horses have "excellent memories", can retain information and/or remember things, and are "as smart as a 3 year old".
A horse who goes on with the jumping competition after he lost his rider... It reminds me of competitions with dogs, where the dog runs and jumps on its own, while its owner is running next to it. Wouldn't it be great to have horses' competitions where the horses compete in doing it on their own, just like those dogs?
I think a little based jumping in nature, like a fallen tree or something, is Ok and maybe some horses would do that without humans too(wild horses, etc) but I agree if you say some jumps are bad for them. But I dont think ALL jumping is bad
She keeps too much contact on the reins, this proves that 99% of faults in the show ring are caused by the riders messing up the horse. Horses are smart animals and know what they're doing, and this horse showed that he can jump just fine if not BETTER with out a rider yanking on the reins.
Hahahha ya, the rider was definitely the weak link bringing the team down. The horse found better distances without her :) I'd love to show this video to any of those people that think that "forcing" horses to jump is cruel or that they don't like it
But did anyone notice at the end when the horse was trotting that he ACTUALLY stopped when a girl from the public went out for him? He saw her and immediately went towards her.
I was literally just thinking that, props to the red-jacketed rider in the stands. She had a calming presence and confident body language that mellowed the horse just enough for that other girl to grab it. The horse looked to be heading for that opening anyway, but earlier on the clip, it specifically avoided going to its rider. That speaks volumes. I don't know much about horses, but the poor thing looked so uncomfortable during the run. It was obviously distressed over how she was yanking those reins at the worst possible times.
I was the same thing. I don't know too much about horses but I always thought riders and their horses have a deep bond but that horse and the rider may as well be complete strangers. Even my cat comes to me when I hold my hand out for him. And my cat is a jerk lol
I wonder if the girl in red has previous experience with that horse. At this level, a horse would have multiple riders. She was likely the more experienced of the two riders.
@@brendaannedufaur6244 no? The rider could be just that. A rider. The girl may be it’s owner. Meaning the girl has a better bond with the horse than the rider.
@My Adventure I've been a equestrian my whole life and that is not how you're supposed to ride you can see how uncomfortable the horse looks that whole time the rider was on. Horse riding is all about balance between rider and horse and the rider obviously still hasn't found their balance
If people would actually pay attention you can see that she lost her balance at 8a. She wasn't able to steady her seat and lost balance completely. Now one might argue about the distance to the combination, but surely wasn't "the riders fault"
She should just let the horse be in charge of the jumps, and just hold on, and signal him to stop and change course when appropriate. He's having fun. No one will know...until they see this video.

Because it's about control. I have a horse who will speed up to the jump and if I don't hold him back he'll fly over that jump like a seal through a hoop. Then on the other side he'll do a flying lead change automatically and get really fast which knocks me off balance if I can't get him under control fast enough. Listen, before you criticize me and say I'm not a good rider, I am not a GOOD JUMPER who has not had a lot of practice doing such a thing.
Without a rider on its back telling it to go faster or slower before takeoffs, its spacing is really interesting! I can't show jump to save my life but I've always wondered who did the thinking about that. The rider or the horse.

Oh he is definitely!💞
I owned a show jumper and she loved to jump. On her own in the pastures, if she got into the ring then she would take a fence, like she was showing off for everyone.
He looked stressed and annoyed to me
I love how this stunning horse goes to all the right jumps and doesn’t knock down a single pole after the rider is off. That horse deserves 1st 🥇
It proofs a rider is only on top for show and usually just hinders the horse to jump well.

she keeps way to much contact on the reins and you can tell the horse is like "give me my head a little bit". like she hardly releases over the jumps which caused alot of the faults. horrible title too.
Lucy Rose Chittick Exactly what I was thinking!!! You can see how much lower and more natural the horse holds her head without the rider on.
Lucy Rose Chittick exactly. I did open jumpers for many years. THey HAVE to have their head. They have to have their backs.
I thought this too but dont know alot about jumping horses. She looked like she had those reins way to tight, and she didnt seem to flow with the horse she seemed tense
@@gracemarshall9853 she was bouncing every which way too.
Funny how the horse literally abused a woman and people blame her, its funny till somebody gets hurt or dies
The title should be something like "Rider falls but horse finishes the competition alone" cuz the horse didn't actually "knock her off"
Well, it technically did. The rider was knocked off because they lost balance.
Yeah I know, she wasn't knocked off at all, she's not lifting herself at the right time and fell off all by herself, but this is how clickbait works

Yes....I'm wondering why those mirrors are there. You usually don't have them for show jumping at all, as it distracts the horses. Looks like they converted a basic training arena for this competition and forgot about covering the mirrors.
@ChocolateBreakfast the description says otherwise ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
A horse has no idea of self recognition. It cannot tell that the mirror is a reflection of itself. I know the original comment was meant to be jocular, however facts exist as well.

Yeah the rider just slipped out of the saddle
I fail to find the humor in making a horse do something so many times he doesn't need a rider. I find this sad at the least

Well, no surprise here, the rider was bumping her ass up and down on the saddle, it was a matter of time she lost her balance. Back to the basics babe! Good effort, however. Kudos for the horse XD
I like how everyone in this comment section defends the horse and agree that it deserves better than that rider
@Texas Poontapa Well the 33 people that liked my comment likely agree so...
@Texas Poontapa I'll have you know that I've been riding for three years.
@Texas Poontapa The rider was pulling too hard and the horse was showing signs that they needed to loosen up. The horse actually appeared to do better after the rider fell off. If you're falling off the horse you shouldn't try to hold on either.
@Texas Poontapa Thanks for the suggestion. I didn't like the trainer anyway tbh. She shouted too much, even in the stables.
Because the rider is obviously terrible. It's one of the not very rare causes - awesome experienced horse + noob rider.

I think they did a good job and the horse responded well to that fault. Some would freak out over something like that.

Lol my old pony would throw me and bronc straight over to the nearest patch of grass. We had a great relationship and a very close bond, but life isn't a heartland novel.
Sometimes riders are given challenges where they have to ride someone else’s horse- due to theirs not able to do the competition or other things.
Or that was the opening back to the lorrys/warm up area and the horse just wanted to get out of there. Notice it was just riders in that corner.
Chelsea Wiersma every horse has its own personality. That horse might’ve been a little bit determined and knew he had to go over those jumps even if the rider fell off.

He for sure loves his work 🥰💕
The horse was totally vibing with himself and the music... He was like "look at me go, Im good~"
This horse is awesome!

YES he went right up to the girl! But he fled from his rider. That tells you all you need to know.
0:37 that horse saved that jump so well!!
He really does very well on his own, much more relaxed and gathered.
This poor horse had enough of her crappy riding. Unbalanced rider pulling in the reigns seesawing thus poor horse's mouth.
@My Adventure I've been a equestrian my whole life and that is not how you're supposed to ride you can see how uncomfortable the horse looks that whole time the rider was on. Horse riding is all about balance between rider and horse and the rider obviously still hasn't found their balance
Tala Aljaber doesn’t make u a trainer sis
Yall are so correct. She is not a good rider. I felt badly for the horse. I bet the horse was happy to be rid of her. Beautiful horse.
@@brendaannedufaur6244 You're an idiot. What sort of name is Anne Du Faur? Sounds like the brand of a car tyre.
If people would actually pay attention you can see that she lost her balance at 8a. She wasn't able to steady her seat and lost balance completely. Now one might argue about the distance to the combination, but surely wasn't "the riders fault"
I’m glad the rider is ok. The horse clearly feels like the rider’s only job is to hold on.
She should just let the horse be in charge of the jumps, and just hold on, and signal him to stop and change course when appropriate. He's having fun. No one will know...until they see this video.
This reply section is making me itchy. Goddamn, I hate the stupid people who think they know everything about horses. They get mad when people don’t know. Shut up.
The riders job is DEFINITELY not just to hold on LOL some people
@@kennedy3636 Yeah some people DEFINITELY don't know that, and believe an animal should be free to be themselves. LOL some people.
@@kennedy3636 So please swallow your pride, like I often do, and keep in mind that some people's experience and knowledge will be different from yours. That doesn't give you the right to make fun. I am willing to learn if my views and beliefs are off the mark.
I think his perfect run through the combination just slayed!👏💕🐎

horse for president- 2020
I'd vote for him
Why was she pulling him back as he was jumping? It’s her fault he missed that one jump and it’s her fault she fell off.
th-cam.com/video/gi57PsjIFqM/w-d-xo.html
Because it's about control. I have a horse who will speed up to the jump and if I don't hold him back he'll fly over that jump like a seal through a hoop. Then on the other side he'll do a flying lead change automatically and get really fast which knocks me off balance if I can't get him under control fast enough. Listen, before you criticize me and say I'm not a good rider, I am not a GOOD JUMPER who has not had a lot of practice doing such a thing.
When you go over a jump you do something called *two-point* .
Riley Rides Thank you for clarifying! 😊
ILive2Rescue I was pretty mean in that comment I feel bad now.
Without a rider on its back telling it to go faster or slower before takeoffs, its spacing is really interesting! I can't show jump to save my life but I've always wondered who did the thinking about that. The rider or the horse.
Yeah, you see that the horse has much better striding without the rider!
+Annie Samuel It's a bit of both, and a lot of the time when it's messed up, it's because the two had a difference of opinion.
+Julia Heijkoop Oh my goodness I'm just starting to learn stadium jumping, and one day i just let my horse run the course alone and her striding was perfect! I was like "Wow you don't even need me!' Funny thing is that she's not even a trained jumper, she's a reining horse!
lizquestrian •
this is why when I learnt to drive a car I had problems. I was used to riding a horse with brains that knew not to run into things :P
+Julia Heijkoop I know right!
All those who say horses are forced to do things they don't want to do and that sport horses are are unhappy and mistreated should watch this video! This horse is definitely enjoying what he's doing and shows no signs of fear or stress 😊
This horse is a real character!
He looks like he is having fun jumping!
+Imzadi Imzadi He doesn't seem that scared to me, but your other comment about the mirror - somebody needs to mirror train him better. Also, too many people trying to catch him.
+Imzadi Imzadi Why was he jumping the diagonal fences? He had room to move around the jumps.
+Imzadi Imzadi Nope. That horse knew EXACTLY where the gate was. He was looking to go around the people and make the jumps. The only time he lost his rhythm was when they blocked him.
FYI - he stopped for treats. Mammal behaviour is pretty consistent. "Fight or flight" does NOT involve stopping for noms.
Pony just loves to jump!
Name of the horse: Sinatra.
Horse thoughts: "I did it my way"
That comment is GOLD LOL
@@catherinedrew203 Thank you. LOL
Very much underrated comment. Have a like. =)
That was pithy & HILARIOUS! Well done! ❤️
@@vm_lifetraveler3502 i love it
Let's all take a moment to appreciate the automatic lead changes in that horse! 😍
OMG true...
It really is a high quality horse that just needs a better rider...or no rider at all apparently lol. They probably paid a high price for him, but she won't win anything if she doesn't get better herself
Ooof, yes, not a stride of counter canter 😍
Love this horse !! He knew his business like no other and didn't need to be harnessed to show it. What a champ !!!
Indeed!
"Oh no oh dear I will finish for you child do not fear"
WOW. What a beautiful horse! AND smart!
Poor horse,
... far too inteligent to jump those obstacles only ... for someones' glory.
did viewers learn the lesson?
The other people were directing the horse and showing it where to go, just like what the rider would do.
I don't blame him, every time his jump was poorly timed was because of her.
@Faizal Lorgat I mean I have owned, competed and trained horses for over 20 years so I know a bit.
@Faizal Lorgat what do you mean?
BRO she said it was poor timing and That's she's trained and owned for 20 yrs ,wtf did that have to do with her trying to break horses legs ???
@Faizal Lorgat yea they put it down , but y are you piping up and accusing someone of trying to break horses legs when all she said is every jump was poorly timed , she wasn't defending the rider wtf??
Faizal Lorgat you my friend are the ignorant one. No one is talking about breaking legs, so why bring it up ?
Horses are smarter than humans! Especially than that girl. Horses should run free! They're not for stupid competition nor for human selfish pride of win...
That horse showed his intelligence and mastery with the obstacles. Bravo 💗
Anyway I'm against any sport and entertainment involving Animals!
They are tools for work.
