  • Reacting to Diego Maradona - When Football Becomes Art. I actually never seen Diego Maradona play, but ever since I saw a clip of him and Messi having an identical play. Because I mess with Messi's game so much, I had to check out Diego Maradona's game too. So hope y'all enjoy this reaction to Diego Maradona - When Football Becomes Art!

I think you noticed that Maradona played in an era that was criminally physical. I'm no joking. There were players who were literally goons paid to break the legs of the best player of the other team. Referees would need to see almost an attempted murder before giving someone a yellow card. And I'm not exaggerating much. In one world cup the German goal keeper almost killed a French attacker just outside of the penalty area and he never got a yellow card! So hat's off to the stars that still collected great stats from that era!

    • @xneapolisx
      @xneapolisx ปีที่แล้ว +3

Absolutely true! I remember that game (World Cup 1982 France vs West Germany semifinal) and the assault on the French player by the German keeper, Schumacher. Maradona was fouled in that 1982 World Cup so many times (in a 2nd round game vs Italy his shirt got literally ripped off his body, with no consequences) that he essentially couldn't play. Crazy times in football then, when indirect free kicks INSIDE the penalty box were still a thing (see Maradona's free kick @ 19:40) Wild!!!

From poverty, dangerous neighborhoods, hunger, Maradona was forged in adversity, that made him grow and be who he was.
Maradona's level in the 1986 World Cup is the highest level of a player in history. Pelé scored more goals and won world championships alongside giant stars, in fact he did not play all the games. Messi has broken all records, but nobody reached the level of a god, only Maradona.

I really do switch again and again between Maradona and Garrincha as the best ever and then say we never acctually saw the best of George Best, he retired before his peak. However Garrincha and Maradona are the only two players to have carried a team to World cup victory. For me I always lean to Garrincha because of his birth defects, he would never pass a medical today, he walking in pain yet dribbled better than anyone has ever before or since............its a tough one and todays gods I don't think there are in the same league as the three I have just metioned.

People who tell me that Messi and Ronaldinho were better dribblers make me laugh. Messi is a more efficient player. Ronaldinho was more fun to watch. But no one to this day was so good as Maradona at dribbling while progressing up the pitch. There isn't a lot of footage available to make those videos. But believe me when i say that Maradona would produce magical plays half a dozen times A GAME. If he had the protection superstars have today only God knows what we would have witnessed. Sadly he suffered near murder attempts every game as this style of play was unstoppable and really never seen before. Maradona set the stage for what the nº10 prototypical super player should be the same way Michael Jackson defined what a modern Pop Star was. This kind of people will never be erased. Players like Messi only built on what real innovators like Maradona have created.

@@JoaquinRoque.938If Messi won 20 Ballon D'or he would still not be 50% as good as Maradona was. Messi is just a club level footballer who needs top players with him to win club trophies. Maradona single-handedly won 2 world cups with very poor sides and made the worst teams into champions all his career. Messi could never do that and nobody else could do that either. Messi playing in Maradona's era wouldn't last 2 years and would be lucky to get 50 goals. Maradona playing today in top sides as a striker could easily score 3000 goals. Remember Maradona won the world cups for his team, and the teammates won the world cups for Pele and Messi. That's the difference. Maradona is the God of football and no one comes close to how good he was "He who did not know God will worship any Saint"

The true GOAT. 86 World Cup and what he did at Napoli, leading them to two league titles and a European trophy with a club that had previously won nothing and were close to relegation before he arrived. All this in an era where they were competing against AC Milan which was the best team on the planet at that time. They only won their third ever league title and first since he left last season. His time there was without question the most successful period in the clubs history. He also played in an era where attacking players weren’t given the protection they are now hence, why you see him having avoid so many dangerous tackles where defenders would go for him rather than the ball. You’d get an automatic red card for most of them now.

hey, would sub in a player to take out your legs (Picture the Hockey Treatment). As a result, he developed the technique where he jumps over players as they tried to take him out. The refs wouldn't call it, so he just played through it.

let me tell you why he is my GOAT on football (soccer) that he is different with anybody else. Did you know that the people in napoli (naples, italy) considered maradona almost their living God during in his prime (i think in the 1985-1990) even after his death. at that time, when he was drafted to play in SERIE A (italian cup) he went to a losing team that has no standing records and amongst the odds against of those strong teams (AC milan, Inter Milan, Juventus). and when he did, he brought that team to the top most outstanding clubs not only in their league, they even became champions in European cup (champions league), they became 2 consecutive champions in their league cup, super cup and of course, his infamous THE HAND OF GOD, that was never even had any players in football history ever did that impossible move yet he did proved it himself that he is not only the ever known as the hand of God but el rey de mundo (the best of entire world). respect! It is simply down to the conditions players used to play in, without the over protection and perfect pitches of today, I think it would be easier for yesterdays stars to adjust to todays game than it is for todays stars to adjust to an earlier period. My Tope 4 not in any order Best< Garrincha, Pele and Maradona............this playes got kicked all over muddy and rutted pitches and still excelled.

He took shorter dribble runs than Maradona & scored far more from them than Diego. That's greater efficency. Maradona's did multiple, long dribble, carry runs. But how many of them resulted in anything?

Maradona could sit in any team and boss the game, messi relies on having other top quality players around him, the evidence of this is the international careers and club level. Maradona won the Italian league with napoli and world Cup with Argentina and in both cases they won because of him, he was a one man team who always performed. Messi won a lot at club level because he played in probably the best team ever at Barcelona and with Argentina he has achieved very little.

Even the young lad here, noticed that when Mardona went down the right flank. He still stayed on the left foot to cross the ball.
Di Stéfano, Pelé, Charlton, Best, Cruyff, would never do that, as they had world class accuracy with *_both_* feet .
I would rank Di Stéfano, Pelé, Best, Beckenbauer, Cruyff, higher. Because they were more complete players. They could dribble, pass, head, tackle, score goals, world class accuracy with both feet, etc.
