after watching over 50 hours of Maradona footage I have come to realize that he had 98% of zidane's skills at clearing midfield and creating openings. He had 98% of Ronaldo's (CR9) skill at finishing and scoring goals and he had 98% of Ronaldinho's skill at being glued to the ball while dribbling and weaving in between defenders. That is a FRIGGIN KILLER COMBO to have in just 1 man.
He had to dribble both the players and their tackles on his ankles. Doing that with so much pain in his legs is another level of skill

I always forget how strong Marradona was. As well as being skilful, quick and having amazing balance, he was strong as an ox. The defenders were bouncing off him sometimes.

Otros tiempos, otros tiempos. No se si me entendes. El futbol evoluciono, es mas rapido, mas agresivo, mas estudiado, mas herramientas, mejor defensa. Pelota liviana mas dificil de controlar. Maradona es un elegido. Pero messi simplemente es mas.

Probably the best player ever. He made Argentina world champion almost on his own. It was such a joy to watch him outplay everybody like it was nothing. Passing, dribbling, scoring, avoiding tackles and as you can see working his socks of. Though he sniffed some coke and shot at some journalists with a riffle he was in essence a very sweet and sensitive guy who could not cope with his status of a 'God' (who can?).

he was actually a Midfielder, an Attacking Midfielder, the Classic N°10 position, usually just behind the centre forward creating all the attacking options. and when you kick the ball crossing your feet it's called Ravona.

I'd seen Diego Maradona play in his prime on TV, and I'd never seen anything like him... Every time he got the ball, u could literally hear the alarms going off for the opponent. He would do feats on the field that no other player could even dream of...
Unfortunately, it was also painful to watch the violence that players inflicted on him... he was kicked, slammed, manhandled, fouled and cut down by players at an alarming rate. I recall one match, his shirt was pulled over his head and the guy did not even get a yellow card!
FIFA rules got much tougher in the 90's because of what was done to Maradona... tackles/ fouls from behind are now instant yellow cards... high boots are red card... that was not always the case in football games.
Lionel Messi gets somewhat less abuse because the fair play enforcement by refs got much tougher on physically zealous defenders on the field, but even Messi and Neymar Jr. get hit hard in games...

Amazing balance, unbelievable acceleration from a standing start, and probably the greatest player of all time running at speed with the ball.
Great reaction and totally agree about the music, it was perfect. I would say if you want to see just how great a player maradonna was and why he's the GOAT just watch his highlights from the 1986 world Cup. He was amazing in every game and dominated that world Cup, the way he played was unbelievable at times and to do it in game after game. Not to mention what he went and did at napoli which was also unbelievable stuff. All of this was done in a time when players were allowed to tackle and they had to seriously foul you for the ref to blow their whistle.

Hola VERDY, tu reacción es como la de cualquier persona que le gusta y ama este deporte. Ver al "pelusa" DIEGO, se roba toda la atención, porque verlo jugar es un placer. No verás que maltrate el balón "la Redonda" jamas. Desde niño siempre estaba haciendo jueguitos "malabares" con la pelota y aprendió como reaccionaba la pelota con cada golpe de su pie, por eso él la acaricia y la tiene pegada a su pie. En los tiros libres vas a ver que no le pega, si no acompaña la pelota con la pegada del pie. El no abusaba de la "Rabona" en movimiento pegar a la pelota con un pie por detrás del otro! El amor de Diego por la redonda fue mutuo. La pelota hacia lo que él quería porque él sabia que hacer para que ella lo hiciera. Espero no se pierda mucho al traducirlo.

I'll forever love my Brazil, but much respects to Diego Maradona. He was an amazing player. Btw, that goal at the 21:20 minute mark that you said was "Too easy", was one of the most impressive goals ever in World Cup history. In fact, that goal is often considered the greatest goal ever in a World Cup. It was the 1986 World Cup --- England vs Argentina. What made the goal significant was the fact that just 4 years prior, England and Argentina were engaged in a war against each other in 1982, over the territory known Falkland Islands off the coast of Argentina. Yes...those two countries were in a bitter war with each other in 1982, so the World Cup match-up 4 years later in 1986 came with even more drama. So when Diego Maradona dribbled the ball from the halfway line and beat all of the English defenders to score the goal for Argentina, it made that goal even more special. And when he scored the 'Hand of God' goal against them, it broke the English...LMAO

He played two WC finals (86 & 90) and won in 1986.
15:46 on that play, he had his left ankle like a balloon, it was on 1990 worldcup against Brazil, knocking out the brazilians on eighth finals. That's why he don't try to dribble everyone in that play, and chooses to pass the ball to Caniggia. You can google it, Maradona 1990 ankle. That was his determination, to play even in that condition.

Hi Verdy, this video confirms what I have always thought. Messi is a great player, but putting him at Diego's level is too generous. Maradona is light years ahead in skill, fitness, speed, perseverance and spirit to play. I think that if he didn't fall into drugs, maybe he would have been even bigger, his limit was the sky and beyond.

I'm new to your channel and I don't know if you are a football player but you did a grate job analizing his moves and play. Diego was a mental and super technique player with a very strong pair of legs, and a quirurgic left foot. Not only was aware of his team mates, once finished the game (and many time after) he could remember the higlights of each Match, were was every one and what he thought was the right move to make. He won México 1986' FIFA WORD CUP, was finalist en Italia 1990. Was banned for positive dopping in USA 1994 in one of the best argentinian futbol teams of history. And was head coach of Argentina's selection un 2006 leading the team to 5 position.
My childhood hero on the pitch, and 2nd best player in history behind Messi, Maradona had it all.

Yes, in the Maradona to Canniggia pass at around 15:54, all the defenders converged on Maradona instead of keeping shape. The right back especially made a monumental error.
Brazilian fans blamed their goalkeeper for coming out and being dribbled by Canniggia. (Coming out was the correct decision.)

Verdy great reaction, as you say he has it all ball control, skillful, and he was sharp mentally to do the passes, if I might I'd add he also has an acute periphereal vision so that is what you are trying to say when he has many opponents around and he all of a sudden pass the ball to a partner, a pass that no one can expect.

There's a video of Maradona hitting the posts in an alternating manner and then the horizontal bar, truly hard to do, and the times he bounces the ball up vertically in the air, Gary Lineker was impressed but said no one in his team (Barcelona at the time) could replicate it the way Diego could do it. There are probably people who train to make football tricks and do the same things better but for a professional footballer it's extremely rare as not every skill is useful in the pitch, but in his case being very talented, the quick reflexes he had and lower gravity point he made all those things to seem easy.
Great video! Maradona was an attacking Midfielder who dropped back to midfield and the defensive backfield in his prime. He was also a substitute striker. He was never a starting Forward in his prime, like Messi.

Maradona had a low centre of gravity, and fast, nimble feet. This is what made him able to dance through tackles, and pop out the other side with the ball at his feet. If there was one player you could rely on to keep possession of the ball, it'd be him. He was raised in old-school street football, where dirty tactics were the norm. You do anything to win, including hoodwinking the ref.
