I just purchased a PC with 32GB of RAM and 6 cores. I've wanted to "distro hop" using something with more than 2 cores (i.e: my 2011 Mac Mini running LMDE 6 in 16GB of RAM). You make this look so easy! Gonna try this today! Mahalo!
Exactly what I do with it too 😂😂, and with that amount of RAM you should get excellent performance. Another idea if you like distro hopping is Gnome boxes, its single click VM's! ( check this video for info th-cam.com/video/qO7hQOpB6Yw/w-d-xo.html )
Hello, I have now tried this with 22.04 23.04 and 24.04 and VMware version 17.0.2 but it does not work. I have done all the steps but when I click on ‘install’ (on the dialogue 5:09) I still get the error and VMware does not start. Can you help me?
Hello, this fix only works with the specific versions in the video, additionally Broadcom no longer supports vmware player on newer ubuntu either. They now offer a supported version of VMware Workstation for free on the latest Ubuntu. I have personally moved onto using VirtualBox and can highly recommend that: th-cam.com/video/9rIFUzhMlF8/w-d-xo.html
Thank you for this tutorial, Unfortunately it was a no go on PopOS 22.04 and VMware 17.5.2. I think I am going to just give up on Pop OS and try it directly on the latest Ubuntu version. Thanks again!
So I used Ubuntu 24.04 and VMware 17.5.2. It could not find libaio1 so instead I used libaio-dev which worked. I followed your steps but still says unable to compile those 2 files. I have been messing with linux off and on for years. It always feels like the do stuff like this on purpose to get people to move back to windows lol :P
@@LadyTechTalks It worked for me on Ubuntu 24.04 but my containers don't have network connection. I wonder if that's related in anyway....(btw it was a vmware workstation pro install not workstation player.
@@earlem9771 Sounds like its related to the VMware network service. If you get the latest version of pro from Broadcom I *think* it is supported. I would recommend having a look at Virtualbox, the install is very simple on Ubuntu: th-cam.com/video/9rIFUzhMlF8/w-d-xo.html
Are you using a newer version of Ubuntu? This fix only works for Ubuntu 23.10 and I dont think support will come for Ubuntu 24.04 for VM player. I have personally moved on to using Virtual Box on linux, the install is very straightforward ( th-cam.com/video/9rIFUzhMlF8/w-d-xo.html )
I have downloaded vmware workstation in 2020 now everytime i make ubuntu or centos machine first time it works but when i power off the machine and come back after day or some hours later no machine on showing on vmware so i have to make new one everytime
Thats strange, when you next create a virtual machine make a note of the location it is saved on your file system. Then you can go and look if the Virtual Machine files (.vmx and .vmdk for VMware usually) are there? if they are you should be able to re-open them with VMware workstation.
@@MiksUnscripted If you know where the virtual machine files are saved you can see if they are getting deleted for some reason. This will hopefully help you track down the issue. Its possible the virtual machines still exist but are not in your VMware inventory. Hope this helps, please consider subscribing would be much appreciated!
I have online classes to study and from one week i have same and same problem like all this week göne for this small issue and still i am now waiting to finish installation of my new centos cuz the old one disappeared again😣😂

This fix only works for 23.10 and sadly Broadcom does not support workstation player on Ubuntu 24.04. I have personally switched over to using Virtualbox, its an easy install on Ubuntu: th-cam.com/video/9rIFUzhMlF8/w-d-xo.html
Hi, just so you know, VMware workstation player is not supported on later versions of Ubuntu. This fix only worked for these specific versions. VMware workstation now has a different licence and is worth taking a look at. Hope it helps.
