The Shadow Of Your Smile by Andy Williams - live version - music from the 1965 film "The Sandpiper" - starring Richard Burton and the lovely Elizabeth Taylor
@ J B - I hear what your are saying. However, I really don't think it was a simpler world. We were all so naive to what was REALLY happening in the world and even in the United States (i.e.: the truth about the JFK assassination, the Bays of Pigs fiasco, MLK assassination, RFK assassination, the U.S. involvement in Vietnam (it started in the 1950's!), the overthrow of Arbenz in Guatemala to protect U.S. Corporate interests (United Fruit Company), the overthrow of Patrice Lumumba in the Congo, the overthrow of Mossadegh in Iran, etc. I have been reading "true history" following WW2 and there was so much covert activity going on - it was truly damaging and even to this day, we (the United States, the world) are suffering the after effects of those covert activities. When you say covert activities you must say CIA Director Allen Dulles in the same sentence.

I wrote a short story titled "The Shadow of Your Smile," which was later collected in the anthology Prism. The story recalls a time in Corfu when we "borrowed" a small fishing boat and headed into the Aegean Sea. My fellow pirate serenaded a lass with that song as I rowed toward the rising moon. It was quite a night.
In my 50’s now, I’m starting to enjoy crooners like Andy Williams, Matt Monro, Frank Sinatra, etc. Maybe I’m getting older but I always did enjoy classic movies.
The same has happened to me. All those singers you mentioned were uncool and old peoples music when i was young. Now I appreciate their vocal talents for what they are - brilliant singers and consequently, beautiful songs.
I was a child when I was introduced to Nat. I cried when he died & my first introduction to cancer. His voice was so soothing, his smile & talent made me appreciate melody.
My mom loved Andy Williams’ singing. She belonged to the Columbia record club and had most of his albums. I grew up listening to him from one side of the album through the other. His voice is the “gold standard” of male vocalists in the 60’s through today. Thanks mom for the musical memories! Love you!! 🥰
Why do I feel nostalgic about these songs when I wasn’t even born in that era (well I was born in the 80s) and never lived those times as a young adult , and neither did I have a lady as beautiful as Liz Taylor by my side! Have I reincarnated 😂?
Thank for “The Shadow of Your Smile”, Andy Williams’ sweet full voice and the stills from “The Sandpiper”. There is wisdom in that movie. In the scene with Elizabeth Taylor in the white jumpsuit, she is longing to know married love. And knows she won’t have it with him.
Gorgeous story, scenery, actors and music! Beautifully romantic! The country was definitely simpler then! Less populated, cleaner, and much simpler-- no electronic devices and instant news. Classic cars were beautifully designed! The country is now a hectic argumentative Tower of Bable with different philosophies contradicting one another and loss of freedom and liberty. Can you imagine someone just building a "luxury shack" in Big Sur now? Back then women dressed beautifully- not cheap. People also had MANNERS and didn't wear pajamas to the grocery store. The era of great music ended in the late 70's with classic rock. As far as the envious argument of "privilege" many of these actors came to the US with nothing but talent and ambition.
Hard to believe this was recorded in 1965. I was only 19 but the beauty and depth of feeling in this song has never left me. Songs of those days had meaning. I absolutely loved Elizabeth and Richard. Always hoped they'd make it as a couple. They were so beautiful! I am so glad I still remember it so clearly.......
Oh GOSH. I just heard this SONG this evening. Took me back All those years ago. Tears 2 my eyes for all the ones I have loved and Lost. Andy Williams thank you. Beautiful.
Loved this movie. I'm glad that I had the opportunity to take my mom on a tour of the California coast. The bus ride on the Big Sur was awesome yet a bit frightening. That is where this movie was filmed. Took the bus 3 hours to complete the trip. There were no barriers along the 2 way road to prevent cars or buses from falling down cliff. This was in the early 80s. I read that the song was written for this movie. RIP mom.
Dame elizabeth taylor never will be forgotten the most beautiful 😍 woman to walk on this earth ❤ andy williams was one of are greatest singers people had more class then rip to them both forever legends ❤will miss them forever .
One of the most beautiful scores from a film ever on the screen. The Oscar winning song reflected the love of the real Elizabeth and Richard. Taylor and Burton were the hottest screen item at the time. The public couldn't get enough of them because of their romance that started while filming "Cleopatra". She was the most beautiful woman on the screen. Burton was a phenomenal actor that loved her beyond belief. It all came accross in this film. What a pair !
When I hear Andy Williams and these songs it takes me back to a happier simpler world which we will never see again .

Да. Воистину так. Аминь.
This was her prime. Like Audrey Hepburn, Taylor didn't come into her full mature beauty until she was in her 30s.

Remember seeing her at the " King Edward Hotel " ( Toronto ) in the sixties with husband to be Burton .... she's incredibly small in statue, but overshadowed everyone else in the room ... if only her voice matched the rest of her .... think she carried ( Maggie ) with her always !
My Mother's smile is the most important precious to me....Ameen
Beautiful Andy's voice, beautiful eyes of Elisabeth... I very like it.
About 50 years ago I would hear my grandmother play his records. What memories. *sigh*
jack002tuber I was listening to his records when I was in love. Now we’ve been married 50 years and still love Andy Williams!
This beautiful song reminds me of my baby brother RAFAEL (TOTO), who had down syndrome & passed away at age 55 . This was one of his favorite songs which he used to sing while I was on the piano or guitar..I never got over his passing, I HOPE WHEN MY TIME COMES I GET TO BE WITH HIM. Maybe by then my depression goes away. I LOVE YOU, TOTO & I'LL SEE YOU THEN ALONG WITH MA & PA.🙏🙏🙏
Adette, if you don't know Him, ask the Lord Jesus into your life and you will see a major change, an uplifting, a joy, a purpose in life. Then stay with Him all your life and when your time comes, through Him you will see your beloved family again. Jesus, our Saviour, is all you need to see your life change. God bless you my sister. 🙏
The shadow of your smile
When you are gone
Will color all my dreams
And light the dawn
Look into my eyes
My love and see
All the lovely things
You are to me
Our wistful little star
Was far too high
A teardrop kissed your lips
And so did I
Now when I remember spring
All the joy that love can bring
I will be remembering
The shadow of your smile
Now when I remember spring
All the joy that love can bring
I will be remembering
The shadow of your smile
À mon tant aimé papa, qui adorait cette chanson.
Amour éternel et infini à toi.
Let’s not count the breaths we take but count the ones that take our breaths away
It was golden time of songs and singers nostalgia
Such poetry and poignant memories of old lost loves 😢❤
I wrote a short story titled "The Shadow of Your Smile," which was later collected in the anthology Prism. The story recalls a time in Corfu when we "borrowed" a small fishing boat and headed into the Aegean Sea. My fellow pirate serenaded a lass with that song as I rowed toward the rising moon. It was quite a night.
This must be rated as one of the most beautiful melodies, song of all time
Absolutely.
No Doubt💜
In my 50’s now, I’m starting to enjoy crooners like Andy Williams, Matt Monro, Frank Sinatra, etc. Maybe I’m getting older but I always did enjoy classic movies.
The same has happened to me. All those singers you mentioned were uncool and old peoples music when i was young. Now I appreciate their vocal talents for what they are - brilliant singers and consequently, beautiful songs.
How nudes
U it
They created beautiful music for centuries.Good luck and all the best.
Love you!! 🥰
No one can sing these songs like Andy!. He had a very sensuous voice!
Есть ещё Фрэнк Синатра с его бархатным голосом и великолепными песнями , посвященными любви...
I loved his voice. He had a way of wooing his audience. It's too bad he went so soon. Thank goodness for his records. We will never forget him.
Love that song and that film.Where have all these beautiful romantic things in life gone.
And it makes us recall our precious Elizabeth Taylor
Why do I feel nostalgic about these songs when I wasn’t even born in that era (well I was born in the 80s) and never lived those times as a young adult , and neither did I have a lady as beautiful as Liz Taylor by my side! Have I reincarnated 😂?
Life was beautiful 😍
Beautiful old songs that I love.
Some of us live our whole lives and never know it…
Gorgeous story, scenery, actors and music!
I cannot find any song more spiritually and nostalgically therapeutic than this one to cure the present moody Covid-19!
Ojalá y pudieran subir la película. Es hermosa
Richard and Elizabeth. That was a love story.
Andy takes me back to my childhood and I get a gut feeling I wish I was there NOW!
Stimme für die nächsten 100 Jahre.
All I can say about this is that Andy was an angel sent down for us! His calming ways will never be forgotten. Stay blessed everyone...
The world was simply a better place with Andy Williams in it. Cheers!
AMEN!!
I was young then, and it was simpler. Now I’m old and have those memories when I hear this music.
We make our lives simple if we want we.can
Oh GOSH. I just heard this SONG this evening. Took me back All those years ago. Tears 2 my eyes for all the ones I have loved and Lost. Andy Williams thank you. Beautiful.
I concur.
Beautiful song! I love these older romantic songs of yesteryear!♥️♥️♥️
Siempre e amado este hermoso y lindo tema, The Shadow Of Your SMILE !
❤LA SOMBRA DE TU SONRISA❤😊
♈️, Elizabeth. 👩⚖️
RIP mom.
Beautiful song , and beautiful Elizabeth.
Hello
Dame elizabeth taylor never will be forgotten the most beautiful 😍 woman to walk on this earth ❤ andy williams was one of are greatest singers people had more class then rip to them both forever legends ❤will miss them forever .
Einfach nur wundervoll. ER wird noch zu hören sein wenn ich schon gestorben bin (1936)
I REMEMBER "LOVE"😍
One represents one of the greatest singers, and the other one represents one of the beautiful women...
