- Kathy gave me a tour of her Born Free 2009 Casual Elegance 22 foot RV. It's made by Born Free out of Iowa and this B+ RV is built like a yacht. I'm so surprised by the craftsmanship and quality of this Born Free RV with its fiberglass outer exterior including the roof and side steps. I was blown away by Kathy's beautiful RV and the modifications that she made to her RV to tailor it more to her liking and travel style as she travels around the United States this year.
Kathy also shares her story about being a solo female traveler, her boondocking experiences, the fear that many people get when starting out RVing full time, moochdocking, and Harvest Host locations she has camped at recently.

Hi, I'm Amber and in May 2017 I started full time RV living. I started this nomadic journey after selling my house and all my belongings to pursue this crazy dream of traveling full time in an RV and creating incredible memories.
After 1 year of traveling, I sold my 26 foot Winnebago Class C RV for a more nimble Class B van on a Promaster 2500 chassis. Now in my 4th year of RVing in my camper van, I'm still loving this RV lifestyle and being a digital nomad. I almost always boondock in nature and really enjoy that off grid living.

I drove a 35 foot RV pulling a full size car for several years alone. I was 60 years old when I started after my husband passed away soon after he retired. That was 20 years ago.
Impressive. Hope the journey has been full of adventure and happiness.

One of the best tips I ever heard for a solo female is to carry a pair of large workman's boots and leave them outside the door at night

I used to do this when I was single. Got a couple of men’s shoes for a few dollars at Goodwill resale store. It helps for when you have handymen or internet company male technicians come to the house.

Only 3 minutes into the video and I already love Kathy! I love that she refuses to live in fear...and that she won't share what precautions and safeties she's got in place (I always shake my head when I watch videos and people say on camera what they have in place). Ok, going to watch the rest of the vlog now ☺
I agree. It amazes me when people reveal safety systems that really should be kept private. It also surprises me when people show their hidden storage spots for valuables. Kind of defeats the purpose, doesn’t it?

Yes Kathy you should start your adventures on TH-cam include you dog. I own a home and Iam in process of selling it as Iam trying to figure out which system I should buy. Iam 60yo and not sure how much traveling I want to do. Your BORN Free home looks very nice. I first thought abought a Nissan cargo van or cargo trailer, but so many rules about where you can stay?? I see women travel by themselves it looks like fun. Born Free looks like it would be good for WA state winters, but Scottsdale, AZ would be nicer for October to May then go to WA for June to September. I live I WA state 2000 to 2001 we had lots of Rain & wind!! I think western WA is pretty, eastern WA more desert like but winters are very cold. Coldest winters are in Nebraska Iowa & Minnesota, so I would say western WA winters are not as cold as midwest winters.
Thanks for introducing us to Kathy! Love her rig. It’s great that she rented out her house while she’s on the road. That seems like a great way to experience the road life without making too big of a commitment if you decide you don’t like it. Smart lady!

a day before I pick up my rig to go full time rving I find out my travel partner is not coming along. So - this was a God-send! Kathy's positive fearless attitude is helping me get through this night when I want to cancel all my plans. I used to be fearless but life often shakes us up enough where we need to rebuild our threshold for adventure. HOpe we meet on the road someday!

Loved this!! Beautiful RV and lovely Kathy! I do want to add my thoughts about #2 in the toilet ... gah ... alert ... more about toilet issues than you might want to know! Anyway, I have lived and travelled in my 33 foot Winnebago Adventurer ... 8 months plus full time as well as a lot of 3-4 month, and assorted travels over 16 years. So ... poop does not remain solid if there is plenty of water :) ... and if you routinely dump black and then gray, the gray cleans the hose. I have never had an issue with a smelly hose ... really! And actually, the gray water smells worse than the black. One thing I do, is I do not put tp or anything other than what exits my body into the tank. I have a flip lid waste can, but after adding a bidet attachment to my home toilet, I thought ... huh, I could use the toilet cleaning thing to have bidet in the motorhome ... wash, don't wipe and you will never go back. There ... much, much more than you wanted to know, probably.

Kathy looks so much like my late Mom! And she has her personality to boot, weird and heartwarming all at the same time. Wonderful lady! If she had her own TH-cam channel, I would definitely follow her adventures!
When I was on the road I traveled with a dog. He was quite able to defend our small space.
Having a Walmart map book is a life saver, because it lists every one in North America so we set our next destination as a go too if needed, a great stress reliever !

@@AmberJBaldwin I agree 110%, if we all could have had a crystal ball. Everyone including me complains about the high prices of a new campers. There's Born Frees, Scamps, Casida's, Air Streams just to name a few that are being sold 20 years later that at the time seemed over priced for more then then they sold for new just because the roof did not leak and destroy the trailer. Look on Craigslist there's trailers 10 years old being sold as scrap just because of roof leaks.

We did it! We found our Born Free rv! we haven't picked it up yet because we have to go to Ohio to get it, but we are sooo excited! We were so impressed by the Born Free units we saw on TH-cam. We'd looked at Bs and considered truck campers but we would have had to buy a truck...So soon we will be driving a 24' Born Free 2006 on a Ford 450, in perfect condition. It's considered a Class C. So thanks for helping us to find our rig.

Wonderful in every way.
Our first motorhome was a Born Free 24ft Rear Bath. Loved it!! We actually used our bathroom, both for showering and . . . well, you know. Did several years of research before buying it. The build quality and safety features were the deciding points. The founder of Born Free, John Dodgen, and his wife actually rolled their Born Free down an embankment while on a night trip. They were standing by the roadside when the emergency vehicles arrived. Totalled the Born Free, but they were saved by the roll bars. It's so sad that Born Free is no longer in business. :-(

@@ellfling924 Have you seen a NASCAR or Formula 1 racecar? They have metal structural bars that surround the drivers to protect them from being crushed in a rollover. That's why they're called roll bars.

I have a Born Free 24RB. I sold it once & bought it back. It’s a 2005. Best rig for single RVing. I feel so safe in it. Love the full size shower I have.

What a wonderful lady. I love her RV and could totally see myself living in one of these with my fur baby. I really love the lay out and the door at the back makes so much sense now. Love all of her storage and how she changed the couch to a permanent bed with yet more storage. Most of all I love the craft cabinet. Thank you Kathy for stalking Amber down and showing us around. I have to research n study n over again but I did have a friend that when she had researched something, I knew I could take it to the bank n never look up anything myself n one of the few ppl I really trusted like that!!! Cathy reminds me of her!! Sure do miss her, some days more than others…. Plus we were young mothers together, girls same grade, boys couple years difference but we did so much together, what I wouldn’t give to go back to my kids little n that time!!! Best times of my life, you just don’t know it when it’s happening n ur all haggered! Lol

NICE interview 👌👍 a nice way to travel BORN FREE like the movie about Elsa the lioness. It's perfect for a woman & a dog. I think it takes courage to travel by yourself even with a cute dog! I enjoyed watching this and BORN Free motor homes are expensive and none of them look the same. I like the back door instead of the passenger side door the best.

Kennedy C LOL .... I know right!? I used to have one when I went to college. Those huge bag phones were just coming out then. That was 1989. My handle was "Red Racer" because I had a red Honda CRX with a major lead foot! lol

Thanks for the tour Amber and Kathy - what an extremely well made RV! Amber, I shower outside all the time with the Aktiv - i put the teak floorboard from the bathroom outside and use the kitchen sink faucet - works great!
Thanks for the tips! Oh darn I can't believe I never thought of putting the teak floorboard outside! Thanks so much for that. I'm totally stealing your idea! lol

Kathy, what a great RV you found! It will last for years more because it was built so well. We have been RVers for 10 years but I don't think I've ever seen one of these! Enjoy your trip in your Born Free!
Cathy is Great and I absolutely Love her RV! We sold our junk 5th wheel 35TMS Grand Junction because my husband was sick and tired of fixing/working on it…and we bought it new…what junkie manufacturing! We won’t buy another because of the shotty workmanship and cheap suspension they put on. If you are blowing tires and aren’t overloaded, check the suspension. New subscriber… I absolutely loved your interview with Cathy!!!`

That was an awesome interview and tour, thanks to you both Amber and Kathy. I am just 4 months away from retirement and hope to also spend quite a bit of time on the road and my 2004 Born Free!
